    The Issue

I want to know how to use the FTP client to configure my server files. FTP Client allows you to remotely connect to the server to configure all the server files like you would do with your PC file folders.

    Example(s)

Attempting to use FTP client to access the server files

    Cause(s)

    Solution(s)

Download and install FTP client such as FileZilla which will be used for this article.

Once you have installed the FTP client, go to your GFL Panel to retrieve the SFTP login information, you can find the SFTP login information at File Management > Configuration > SFTP Settings

After that open FileZilla application and press CTRL + S or click on File > Site Manager

You will then be greeted with this menu, you can click on "New Site" and name it according to your server for easier connection whenever you need to login. Then fill in all the information from your GFL Panel SFTP settings:

    1) Select "SFTP" from the dropdown list
    2) Enter the "Connection Address" but remove SFTP:// and :2022 from the end or whichever port number there is, for example I would enter gs06.gflclan.com
    3) Enter the port number shown at the end of "Connection Address" in GFL Panel SFTP Settings, in my case it's 2022
    4) Enter the "Username" that is visible in your GFL Panel SFTP Settings
    5) Enter the password associated with your GFL Panel that you use to login to the panel

Once all the information is filled,  it should look something like this:

Click "Connect" and look at the top to see the status of your connection, if it's successful you will see something like this:

Now you are ready to edit your server files. The left side is your local PC while the larger right side is where server files are located at. You can drag and drop files between those two menus inside Filezilla, download by double clicking a file or you can open folder in your operating system and drag between the folder and FileZilla.

    Additional Information

I recommend to change default text editor for .log .txt and .cfg files, so you can right click -> View/Edit the files inside Filezilla properly, otherwise by default it will use NotePad that will mix all the lines.

You can change the default text editor for certain files on Windows by right clicking on a file and clicking on Properties, then this window will pop-up

Click on "Change" and select your preferred text editor for example Notepad++, Sublime Text editor and such.  After selecting text editor, simply click on OK or Apply and you are done. Now you can edit files inside FileZilla by clicking View/Edit:
