Purge’s grand reopening has garnered a bit of attention. For those unaware of what purge is, it is a modified version of DarkRP wherein every 45 minutes there is a 12 minute period where all crime is legal. It used to be a popular server back when it used to exist but had to shut down, now that it is reopened people are playing and enjoying it again. Wayne and Salad are co-managing and they are managing it very well!

At the beginning of April, we decided to shut down the Rust division for the second time. The second chance was promising, but due to the Division Leader, @Baconator, and both Server Managers resigning, it has once again been shut down. Maybe sometime in the future, it may come back once more; for now, we say a solemn goodbye to Rust and its players.

A while ago, @Salad chose to resign after a long tenure of being the GFX Team Leader in order to focus on duties as the new Director of Divisions, although he'll be remaining here on PR for the time being. In his place, @Clavers was chosen to be the new lead. Though Salad won’t officially be gone from the team, Clavers will be taking charge of it. If you’ve given them some applause already, then give some more applause and thanks for the work that they’ve both done up to this point!

Following shortly after the departure of Salad as GFX Team Leader were multiple other role changes within the GFL Team–particularly to the Directorate. Firstly, though the GFL Systems Administrator role was not changing hands, @Aurora had resigned as Director of Technology; leadership responsibilities for Technical Administrators did not dissolve, however. 

Atop this, GFL’s Council had decided to revive the Executive Director position within their governing body. @Infra, the glorious, magnificent visionary leader of GFL himself, has filled this position; however, the Director of Divisions role became vacant as a result of this change. To rectify this, Salad was elected as the new Director.

Of course, with the shuffling-around of Salad to new roles, the Staff Council Member seat he’d occupied had opened up as well. After some consideration, @Bendy had ultimately been chosen as the one to succeed Salad in the SCM position.

For one final time, let’s thank these four for what they have done for GFL and congratulate them on their new positions!

When it comes to CS:GO, Surf's had a lot of recent expansions. For starters, a new server for 24/7 Utopia was opened up some time ago. However, a small difference is that some of the maps will rotate and change slightly in variety every hour. The IP for this server is 92.119.148.101:27015. 

Additionally, two more servers recently got opened up. These servers are both for the top-ranked Surf players as well as the donators to freely access whenever they please. The first one, only for the Top 250 players and donators, has the IP of 92.119.148.59:27015. The second, for the Top 100 players and donators, has the IP of 92.119.148.82:27015.

As the IP's are above, you should be able to check these servers out as long as you hold the proper clearance. Either way, be sure to relish the new servers and to have have a good time playing on them.

Late in October, the GFL Council had agreed to acquire the Physion community! Physion is a clan similar to ours that hosts 8 different servers for the game Unturned. However, even though its staff (which consisted of the owner and 1 developer) departed once our merge initiated, we had decided to maintain some of Physion’s distinctness and autonomy; essentially, it has become a “branch” or subsidiary of GFL.

However, the following changes have been proposed/implemented to bring Physion into the fold:

Physion’s staff team is now made up of GFL staff, much like how one of our existing departments is structured.

The Physion community has a separate donation system, not linked to GFL's donation system at the moment, however all funds are pooled.

Physion’s servers were all ran out of a Windows VPS. The VPS was quickly replaced with a Linux machine that integrates their servers into our GFLPanel framework. Expansions are planned, but nothing is confirmed yet, stay tuned!

Around the same time as the Physion announcement, we were saddened to learn that @FrenZy would need to resign from all of his GFL positions. However, as it concerns his Director of Divisions position, the staff team had decided that @Infra would be the right man as FrenZy’s replacement! 

If you see them around, we’re sure Infra would appreciate a couple more warm welcomes and FrenZy a few more thank-yous for all his work!

A while back, @BlazingArson resigned from their positions. Though their departure was only from staff positions, they left an empty void in the Events Team as the former leader. However, this void was filled by @Copium Queen and @Duck. who are now the leaders of the team. Of course, we’re not only looking forward to seeing some very good work, but we’re also looking forward to seeing where they’ll take the team from now on!

While the newsletter had been on a break for some time, the Community Representative (CR) election cycle progressed from a humble beginning to a blossomed finish after a few road bumps along the way, including a run-off election.

In the end, @Shuruia and @DaPainWayne were voted in as the CR’s who joined Council, and have currently both retained their positions. As always, be sure to commend those who ran and the cool people elected for their work.

Though there's only one 5X server that's been released so far, it's been announced that a 10X server will be opened in the near future! Back in August, we had to close down our Rust Division as a result of many unfortunate circumstances. As a Division, it not only had a successful run, but it had all sorts of people visit and create a strong community. Although it has closed down, just keep in mind that a revival of our Rust Division can be considered in the future. It just depends on how everything would work out upon launch and afterwards. If you’d like to see it return, then don’t lose hope!

Not all of the happenings in August were unfortunate, however! We were able to expand into the EU region once more with two new CS:GO servers--KZ Climb and Surf Timer! Both of these support only the easy levels for now, but more difficult servers will hopefully be added in the future. All GFL clan members are free to try them out!

Early July saw the arrival of a new addition to the GFL family of servers: GMod Minigames! With over 30 maps to start and over 10 minigames to choose from--including Hidden, Deathrun and Floor is Lava--there’s been a little something for everyone to enjoy, and it’s already seen a respectable amount of traffic over the past month.

Ever since founding it, @Roy has been the Owner of GFL for just a bit over 10 years. Recently, he has resigned and given ownership of the community away. Under Roy, GFL has had high points and low points, as any other community would, but we’ve also achieved some amazing things along the way. Not every online group gets to some of the places that we’ve been, but among all of the people who have joined us along the way, a big person to thank for all of this is Roy. If you ever have the chance and have not already done so, please drop by this thread and send him your thanks!

As for our new Owner, @Aurora has taken that position due to her contributions in managing, her technical experience, and for her constant activity in GFL for years, among other things. Recently, the election cycle for the Community Representatives (CR’s) who would join Council ended. The winners were @Infra and @Salad. However, in order to change the Council’s member number from 7 to 9, these two were appointed as Members of the Council based on their experience and accomplishments as Staff Members. This position is not elected, and a new appointee will be selected if one of the holders of this position resigns. Because of this fact, it was decided to redo the CR election. Oh, and don’t worry, because this time... We’ve decided to keep the current winners as CR’s! So, let’s take this from the top.

Be sure to not only commend everyone listed here, but to also commend everyone who ran for CR. All of them tried their best, and you have to give some respect for that. As for elections, we of the Writing Team will surely be informing you about the next election. It will begin sometime around November 30th, when the current terms for our two current CR’s are complete.

For 10 years, there was a member of our community who had been with us for a long time. However, this member has recently decided to step back of their own accord. This person is @Jekyll. As a longtime member of our community, Jekyll has had a lot of experience in seeing the environment of our community change, from its humble beginnings to the days where GFL has thrived most. Most recently being notable for being a CS:S Division Leader for CS:S, Jekyll has been someone who has had a lot of impact on our community. While it may be a shame to see one’s departure, it is something that must come after one’s arrival. To Jekyll, thank you for being with us for this long of a time, and be sure to make the best of your future.

As Jekyll was not only the Division Leader for C:SS, but also the Server Manager for our Squad Server, we needed to look for a new person to take up the position. So, after searching for potential candidates, it was decided that @John Jeez Man would be the one to take the reins for our Squad server! John has not only been trying to increase the server population, but they also have a plan for doing so as a whole in the future! Remember, this is only the beginning of a plan for making our Squad server one of the most fun places to be in the game. Be sure to join the server not only if you’d like to help out, but also if you’d like to have a good time in general!

Our events Team Leader @Serenity has recently decided to step down. We are excited to announce that after a search Serenity has decided to pass the torch to @BlazingArson. They show great leadership abilities and we believe that they will lead the team to the best of their ability. We would also like to show our appreciation for what Serenity has done for the team, being a great and dedicated leader.

Due to the mod team’s ever-expanding nature it was decided that a new Co-Team Leader was needed.  We are excited to announce that this new Team Leader is @Joshy. After seeing him do an excellent job as a senior moderator and we are confident that he will continue to do so as Team Leader, helping the team to grow and thrive even more.

Recently, our CS:GO Technical Administrator, Ash, decided to resign from his position, thus creating an opening for a high end staff position within our CS:GO Division. Filling that vacancy will be @Infra as co-Division Leader. As FrenZy wrote in his announcement for this promotion, having two Division Leaders is a great way to balance the workload, especially that of such a demanding division like CS:GO. Throughout the last year, Infra has proven himself capable throughout all of his positions, some of which include Surf Timer Admin, KZ Climb Server Manager, Technical Administrator, and Team Leader. As someone who is constantly offering to help whenever and wherever he can, he is no doubt the best person for this position. Join us in congratulating him on CS:GO Division Leader!

Recently, @Bue. decided to step down from her Position as Rust Division Leader. Some of you may have known Bue for her consistent amount of activity in the GFL community. However, after her resignation, a replacement for her position had to be found. So, with that in mind,  we’d like to give an official welcome to @Hatehim222 as our new Rust Division Leader! With previous experience as a Server Manager for Rust, he’ll be sure to make good choices regarding the future of GFL’s Rust Division. Of course, that won’t undermine Bue’s contributions to the Community. Be sure to give them both a (Virtual) pat on the shoulder for what they’ve done, and for what’s to come.

We are excited to announce the opening of our very own Affiliate Streamer Program for GFL! This is aimed to provide greater incentives to those who wish to stream on any GFL server playing any GFL-supported gametype. Among many perks is a monthly VIP status, alongside an elevated Affiliated Streamer role for the main GFL Discord server.

In October 2020, it had been announced that GFL was setting up an expansion of servers into Europe. However, as of now, said expansion has yet to find a suitable state of release for server divisions to implement, and we apologize for this. The full situation is quite nuanced and technical; if you wish to see a full explanation from @Roy, you can click here --otherwise, you can read a run-down of it below.
 

What’s Happening:

• The problem centers around the BGP session of the UK POP not appearing successfully--an issue stemming from the hosting provider, who has been very busy

• In short, the BGP announces IP blocks; without either of these functioning, the server traffic would end up being viewed as “spoofed” and drop the packets, as both need to operate on the same switch the UK server tower is connected to

A Temporary Solution - Unimplementable:

• Prior to about a month ago, our hosting provider had rather strict policies on packets using an IPIP Protocol--the very same type used by Roy’s IPIPDirect program for our servers

• To try and work around the above problem, outbound traffic could simply be sent to the nearest POP from the server machine; however, there are some downsides to this solution inherent to it (the full list can be read in Roy’s full explanation).

• However, this temporary solution cannot be implemented yet; the simple explanation is that wonky filters are being created by upstreams that are being based off of both the inner IP header’s source and destination IP addresses

Minor Changes to IP/ASN Listing Program:

• The lists to update are randomized when scanning the lists/ directory

• Added a max lists option to cap how many lists can be updated per interval

• Added the option to not write up a list if any ASN lookup within that list fails

Again, we apologize for the wait. As soon as Roy gets the solution implemented, he’ll be making a global announcement, so keep an eye out! Once the announcement is made, the server divisions will be able to decide what kinds of updates their servers will receive.

In consideration of multiple different factors, including amount of usage, amount of moderation and maintenance requirements, the staff attending the March council meeting had decided it would be best to retire the Teamspeak 3 server. As of March 27, this plan became reality; the server was officially and forever shut down.

With the monolithic success that Among Us has had over the past several months, we have decided to open up our own GMod-based twist on the game! Starting off, the 24-player server features its own custom version of Skeld alongside a Point-Shop for purchasing custom hats and models. 

As with all other newly-added servers and game-modes, there are rules that need to be followed, all of which are courtesy of @Salad.

Game-Play Rules:

• Cheating or using scripts to gain an advantage over other players is strictly prohibited and will result in a permanent ban.
• Abusing the report system to report players who have not broken the rules will result in a warning. Repeated violations will lead to a temporary ban.
• Using 3rd-party services like Skype, Discord or TeamSpeak to share information about the game in a way that unfairly advantages any player is considered cheating and will result in a temporary ban. Repeated violations can lead to a permanent ban.
• Do not intentionally delay rounds. Delaying includes purposefully not voting, purposefully not finishing tasks, purposefully not pressing the emergency button, and not killing within a reasonable amount of time (for Impostors only).
• Staff has final say. If you have any issues, please contact the Server Manager (@Salad).

Chat/Misc Rules

• Advertising non-GFL servers is prohibited.
• Harassment and usage of slurs is prohibited.
• Sending spam messages/being overly-annoying over text or voice chat is prohibited.
• Pretending to be an admin or any other user is prohibited.
• NSFW/Gore sprays and profile pictures are prohibited.
• Please only speak in English, to the best of your ability.
• Abuse of the admin call feature is prohibited.

Starting off the month with a resounding bang, Director @FrenZy has unveiled a CS 1.6 version of the highly popular Zombie Escape gamemode! Having been set up by wonderful @Reks and @Legolas, there are a total of 17 maps that have shipped with this new server. Players can expect to see several well-known maps, including Mirror's Edge, FF7 Mako Reactor, Surf Facility and Frozen Throne, among others.

As for another small server amongst our Expanded Divisions, we've now opened up a Squad server! Similar to TF2 and the Counter-Strike games, Squad is a first-person shooter game. The game's functionality involves the player working with their team while using their surroundings and their tools in order to thoroughly bash the opposing team into submission! Currently, our only server hosts the RRaS (Random Advance and Secure) gamemode, which you can read more about here! The server's first manager is @Jekyll, who will be sure to lead our Squad Division down the right path. If this type of game fits your plate, then why not try and have some fun? Recently, our counter-Strike: Source (CS:S) Division Leader, @Reeve, stepped down from his position. In the coming days, a new candidate was eventually decided upon in order to take Reeve's place. To everyone that has not already been made aware, please give a warm welcome to our new CS:S Division Leader, @Jekyll! With previous experience, including already having the distinctive position as the first Manager of our new Squad Server, (See above), Jekyll will be able to hold CS:S together and give it a much-deserved hug. Already, he's added a Prop Hunt server to the wide array of CS:S servers under GFL's belt. This is only the beginning of his future accomplishments, so be sure to stay tuned for some more CS:S news in the near future!

 & Update on the Moderation Team

After much time discussing, GFL's Moderation Team was dissolved in order to revamp and improve. Along with this came new global rules and guidelines for all of our Discords and the Forums. As time goes on, you may notice some new and returning members to the team. This change was created to help combat the problem of moderators being spread too thin between all of our Discords as well as to have better quality moderation on the Forums. If you feel that you would make a good contribution being a part of the team, you may apply here! (Forum Moderator Applications are closed for the time being.)

A very generous but anonymous donor gave the GFL Rust Division a total of $1000, breaking GFL's record of the top-donation in one setting! Recently, the Writing Team has to bid "Adieu" to its long last leader, @Trigger. For almost a year, Trigger was the Team Leader of the Writing Team. He saw many people join the team and leave the team. Along the way, people denied the Writing Team's potential, and yet, he stayed with the team for a long time. I, myself, joined back in June, when our team was just a quaint and a small group. We stood by, and kept doing what we liked to do. Write. Even as thee seasons changed, even as membership shifted, we still kept writing. If it wasn't for him, then it's highly likely that our team wouldn't be alive right now. Currently, we're at a crossroad. The path I want us to take is the correct path, the path to revitalization, and the path to our future. That is the path that all of our current members want to take and, I hope that you, the reader, will be pleased to join us for the ride. As the most senior member of our team, I'd like to thank each and every one of you that continues to read our writing, our passion. For the sake of the team that Trigger worked to keep alive, and for the sake of the team that our members want to continue, I hope that you enjoy what will come in the Writing Team's Future. (𝙰𝚞𝚐𝚞𝚜𝚝)- Jailbreak, a game mode consisting of Guards (Counter-Terrorists) and Prisoners (Terrorists) where prisoners have the goal of escaping the guards, has been announced as fully released on CS:GO after having a very successful beta testing phase! The Jailbreak server is a collaboration between two communities Games For Life (GFL) and Hellsgamers (HG). The game mode was officially released to the public on August 24th and has been in the making since January 2020! (𝙰𝚞𝚐𝚞𝚜𝚝)- While September was still peering its way through the depths of GFL, there happened to be another exciting event that took place! On August 28th, Nick posted an announcement that contained statements and other additional information regarding the two potential council spots as a Community Representative. The spots were opened for anyone to apply that were a member+ of GFL . Though there were many application submissions, only a few contestants made it to the final round. The final round was announced in October, and it consisted of all the campaigns that were eligible to be in the competition. Soon enough, it was announced that the results of the election would be released on October 11th, but soon was moved to October 13th due to one of the contestants resigning that had enough votes to swing the election. When October soon flew by, we finished our first Community Representative (CR) Election. In the election, there were 6 potential candidates, with only 2 of them able to become a CR. We had 239 voters, and because everybody could vote twice, we ended up receiving a total of 377 votes! So, to each and every voter reading this newsletter, thank you! With a total of 104 votes, Liloz01 is the first of our Community Representatives! Additionally, with a total of 94 votes, Salad is our second Community Representative! To each participant, whether you were a candidate or a voter, we all thank you for your participation. We will post the voting results below.

(𝙰𝚞𝚐𝚞𝚜𝚝)- As the GFL Community constantly evolves, so too must the landscape of its servers. A while back, we launched two new TTT Servers on Garry’s Mod. The first one, TTT Vanilla, is a simple way of playing TTT without any modifications to the game’s mechanics. The other, TTT Anarchy, is much more experimental. This server has a relaxed ruleset, along with a role system that allows players to play other roles besides the three main roles of Traitor, Innocent, and Detective. No matter which server suits your playstyle more, we hope you enjoy our TTT expansion!

(𝚂𝚎𝚙𝚝𝚎𝚖𝚋𝚎𝚛)- Have you heard about the newest Division Leader promotion?! Hamtaro will be the one taking TF2 matters into his own hands. He is popularly distinguished by his strong characteristics and motives for the TF2 division. He works tremendously well with a team and is also designated for being very outgoing! His intentions for his new position happen to be nothing but beneficial to the TF2 community. He has a great open mind regarding player suggestions and changes for the discord or in-game features. He states that he plans on getting rid of all the deleterious and unfair advantages from the community to the best of his ability. Hamtaro also intends to give all the TF2 servers more assistance to the player base by equalizing an executive staff committee for every one of the servers. Over time, the TF2 servers will grow more into success with an enjoyable and friendly community due to Hamtaro’s proficient guidance!

(𝚂𝚎𝚙𝚝𝚎𝚖𝚋𝚎𝚛)- GFL recently sponsored a contest for Map Designers/Creators. This contest is to design a Zombie Escape Map for CS:GO with the judges having four criteria s for mappers. Aesthetics, gameplay, replayability, and originality. There is also an impressive prize pool that consists of first place receiving $260, second place receiving $175, third place receiving $90, fourth place receiving $50, and fifth place receiving $25. The contest ends December 7th at 12 AM CEST, make sure you submit your map by then!

(𝙾𝚌𝚝𝚘𝚋𝚎𝚛)- This October, new things have been brewing up in the GMod Division! GFL has decided to launch its very own DarkRP server once again. On the server, you can find 40+ jobs, 30+ weapons, 10 vehicles, and more to come. The DarkRP server has been in the works by our amazing developers for many months, and they can’t wait for you to check it out! You can join the server by pasting this (connect 92.119.148.7:27015) into your console. Make sure to check the MOTD before you play and remember to have fun!

(𝙾𝚌𝚝𝚘𝚋𝚎𝚛)- After the success of the first KZ Climb server that is currently managed by Infra, the CS:GO Division has decided to open up another one! The server, or more the genre itself, involves parkour, difficult jumps and hard obstacles. The ultimate goal is to traverse the map as fast as possible before anyone else finishes. Some maps are harder than others, but all maps are considered a rough challenge. This new KZ server aims to host higher difficulty maps along with optimized settings for higher-ranked players. (𝙾𝚌𝚝𝚘𝚋𝚎𝚛)- Towards the end of the Spooky Month… GFL had to experience a very sorrowful resignation from the Rust Division. Skittlez was hurt just as much as we were when he uttered the news. After about four prominent and faithful years that he devoted into GFL, there soon came a time where life influenced him to wave farewell. The big man is getting married! After all the lovely cheers and congratulations, we were all drawn to realize how much we are going to miss him and his amazing work ethic. He states that he’s very thankful for everything that we all have done and he couldn’t have worked with a better community. As Skittlez was stepping down, he clearly stated that Vence would be the one stepping up into his position. He’s been “somewhat training him over the past few weeks to do so.” Vence struck him as the type of individual that has great leadership skills, and the type of dedication that the community needs. He also believes that he has the greatest potential to uphold the Division on all the skillful levels!

(𝙾𝚌𝚝𝚘𝚋𝚎𝚛)- Just when you thought GFL couldn’t get any bigger, we are announcing our plans for a new SQUAD server and new European servers in CS:GO and GMOD, and possibly more in the future! In the upcoming weeks, GFL will be expanding its already founded servers to Europe. The game modes will consist of CS:GO Surf Timer, CS:GO Bunny Hop, GMOD Prop Hunt, GMOD Murder, and a few others, along with a new Squad server launching. Squad is a tactical first-person shooter video game, "set in the current modern-day environment". Since the Squad server is very new, we will need to form an admin team. If you feel you are up for the challenge, you can apply here!
