Monitor

Greyson checked the monitor on his gun. Still red.
“Could you hurry the fuck up?” he asked the small man sitting at a terminal near him.
“I’m going as fast as I can” the man replied.

A minute later, the light on Greyson’s L-23 turned completely off.
“Finally!” he said. Just then, someone knocked hard on the door.
“OVRA! OPEN UP!” A shout came. Greyson held up the gun in his hands and shot through the door. Normally shooting at a OVRA member would switch off his gun, but with the man’s hack it would work like normal.
“Suspect has opened fire!” another voice yelled.

Greyson kicked down the rest of the door and walked over the charred remains of the first man’s body.

“Want some of this?” he asked.
The OVRA team responded by shooting at him. He ducked back into the house for cover.
“Get your ass over here and help me kill them!” he shouted to the hacker.
“Pay me first.” He calmly stated.
Greyson groaned and held his gun out the door, firing blinding and smiling as he heard someone scream.
“Pay me or I disable your gun then shoot you with mine.” The hacker threatened, pulling out a small laser pistol.
Greyson took his left arm off his gun and transferred the man ten thousand rams for his work.
“Much obliged” the hacker said, turning his terminal off then pushing a button on his Watch. “Try again.”
Greyson went out of the house and saw with delight that the OVRA members had threw their guns to the ground.  Each one’s monitor was red.
“Say goodbye.” He told them.

One of the men rammed him as he shot the others down. He punched the man in the face before firing into him as well.
“Got that taken care of nicely” The hacker said to him. “Now, I just need to take care of one more thing.”
The hacker pulled his pistol out again and fired into Greyson multiple times. His L-23 was unresponsive. Greyson groaned.
“Someone had to be blamed for this? Ain’t gonna be me.” He said, holding the pistol sideways in an innocent look.
“You fucking bastard” Greyson gasped, trying not to pass out.
“I hope you enjoyed a few minutes of having a working gun. Just like the old days right?” He said, and shot Greyson in the head before throwing the pistol beside him.
“Just like the old days.” The hacker muttered to himself, smiling as he hopped into Greyson’s car and drove away.

“I was so good at being a kid, and so terrible at being whatever I was now.”
