game_text scaling issue, "workaround fix"

Hey,

 

As more people are getting higher resolution displays, this problem has become more widespread. Most plugins and maps are now using the game_text feature (which is great), but the text doesn't scale properly past 1080p.

The workaround is to change the game resolution to 1080p and then change back, but you have to do it every time you open CS:GO.

 

The easiest way is to set your game launch options with "-w 1920 -h 1080" and then in your autoexec.cfg, set "mat_setvideomode 2560 1440 0" (or 1 if you use borderless). This will open the game in 1080p first, and then change to 1440p once the autoexec has loaded.

 

Some recording software / game overlays may be affected by the change in resolution (Shadowplay, Discord etc.). but game performance / stability is exactly the same.

 

Valve are aware of the issue, or at least according to this thread they keep referring to (#1360).

Doesnt work with my ultrawide. valve doesnt like 3440 and forget panorama mode.

 

edit: After a quick google search. 3440x1440 is fixed in panorama for hud scaling issues. tested it on a few different servers and it works just fine.  text size is still there even with resolution changes.

maybe ill appreciate the giant text when im 60.

Pinning this for those who are suffering from large gametext walls (especially with the new Entwatch hud) on their screen due to resolution sizes.

I've been having this issue where my hud will not go any further than 75% of my screen.

 

Here is what is looks like when I set the X = 0.4

 

... And here is where I set the x = 0.7

 

 

I currently have a 1920 x 1080 monitor and set CSGO to the same resolution. I also have it set to widescreen as well. Is there any way to allow the text to go further to the right?
