Hai,

I would like to talk a little about the idea of unbanning me/BotoX/Shini and just share some thoughts/give some advice while I'm at it.
I'd like to preface this by stating I understand my position (of being not banned) is fragile. This piece will probably be at least mildly provocative to some of you, if this sparks my reban, then so be it. I've come to value the pursuit of <any tangible truth> over my <freedom to x>. Just know that these thoughts are my own and don't (necessarily) represent .ru.

 

About the notion of unbanning me/Shinigami/BotoX

There's a couple of ways you can approach this, but for each of us I'm going to zoom in on 2 things specifically, being:

•  Motivation and intentions during the original split
•  What decisions I think are logical moving forward

I'm somewhat weary of analyzing the motivations and intentions, but I know I'll find myself referencing them constantly. So as concise as possible:

 

Motivation and intentions

I'll start with Shinigami since his actions are the hardest (read: impossible xd) to defend.
I think your best bet at a glimpse of his logic is to just read the announcement post. Excerpt from .ru mg/dr/surf announcement post, by Shinigami: 1#: https://pastebin.com/Ez0uSxgb .
I will add that this entitlement to sovereignty was enabled by me (see excerpt #2, B).

 

For myself, I'm an open book at this point and an expert at self deprecation. Except from "server split mementos", by myself: #2 https://pastebin.com/8L25wA6B .
I've written fairly extensively on when/where I failed in my position of "gatekeeper".

 

As for BotoX, if it was up to him, ZE would have parted with GFL months prior. He approaches things exclusively pragmatically, in its most literal interpretation.
While the people that had it out for .com management at the time were plentiful, BotoX wasn't one of them. He just saw possibilities and improvements in quality of life that simply weren't possible under .com due to various restrictions (e.g. no shell, gimped databases, poor performance, ...).
Most importantly, he saw a stubbornness and unwillingness to improve in the people running the back end. The previous two sentences were his only motivation, he doesn't care for power, never cared to go out of his way to more damage than necessary to the community at large, because he doesn't function on that level.

 

What decision I think are logical moving forward

"Logical" is a poor choice of words, really. From this point forward it turns into a value game. "Trust" seemingly being valued above all else, I hear it all the time, left and right. The trust is broken, ad infinitum.
Roys vision of GFL is an ever growing one, ever expanding. But blind trust isn't sustainable (see: viper&co, phone, soja, myself, denros, ..),  let alone scalable.

There is no right or wrong past this point, but there are implications to pursuing certain values, even more so in the context of this merge/unsplit.

 

.ru approached .com with little to no high-stake demands. We agreed (through my council) that an unban demand would be met with hostility, because I understand the grudges you hold, your vengeful nature. It went from a demand to a footnote. A "please, if you could find inside of you, consider it, possibly, maybe".
In the face of such humility, you couldn't find it in you to reach out and instead remained steadfast on your high horse despite the pleas from various community members reaching out on their own accord. Frozen in place by your values with the hive mind holding the metaphorical gun to your head.

 

Zooming in on BotoX and the merge specifically. It seems to be understood that regardless of what ends up being decided, you (.com) are taking a risk. You will be running BotoX' current code, and he will continue updating it. Either through continued git commit/review before compile (however long that would last), or through emergency interference whenever x breaks. That's not even considering he could just proxy/vpn to get straight to ftp. I'm not saying there's plans detailing that, I'm just saying that under the right circumstances, or with time even, code that isn't reviewed and approved by any trusted entity is more likely than not to be executed.

 

The point I'm trying to make is that you are running the risk, so why not reap the rewards also? The sheer gesture of turning the other cheek and reaching out to BotoX is enough to turn this into something productive. I can see this infringes on your values, but I genuinely believe it's in your best interest to move away from blind trust, and instead (continue) build(ing) sane, secure and scalable infrastructure. In the end this is still a lawless internet, and there has to be some degree of trust as there's no tangible repercussions. But BotoX isn't this ruthless monster you've made him out to be.

 

He has ran ZE for two years now and I (along with an army of others) have made sure to shit on his any mistake/flaw, scrutinize his every step. He made a community poll to offer to step down for betterment of ZE at some point. There is genuinely nothing you could come up with that would make him do anything that would damage ZE. He's willing to work with you just for the sake of being constructive, set up the server alongside you, maybe give some advice as you go, anything as long it benefits ZE.

 

Progress over vanity, sustainability and scalability over trust (or some sane combination of the two). Ultimately there is no "better" value.

I know this is a long shot and this isn't as elaborate as I'd like it to be 'cause of time-restraints, but fuck I had to try.

Minas tirith recently got added to .com and I had the pleasure of playing the map with a team that mostly hadn't played it on css. It was a total shitshow, 0-6 and then 2-15. After playing on css it was like bizzaro world where people didn't have the most important zombie flank routes and timings memorized leading to panic. Even if the players themselves are good it'll take a while for people to learn the map. I'd like to see some more experienced minas elites from css in the server to teach the map. At this point i'm afraid that people might just give up and preemptively rtv. I don't want csgo to miss out on minas. Maybe afterwards we can all sing kumbaya and hold hands with white knight as we run to the end of the bridge thing. 

 

Also, it seems unnecessarily cruel to ban juky, botox and the third guy from playing on the server when they're so invested in the game and its community. It's like telling a fish it can't swim or that it has to move to another shittier unloze scented fishbowl, one of only two sizeable fishbowls on css just because he stole your bowl.

 

Since we're going to join the servers we should try to get along better together. It doesn't look good to exclude the more beloved, useful and the other guy ones. When I try to understand the history of the split (during which time I took a break) by reading all these posts, it just seems like a bunch of immature idiots making boneheaded decisions all around and half apologizing/justifying for them. Not to say pretend the split never happened and fuggedaboutit but let's use this opportunity to make ze great again.
