Fallout 3 on Windows 10

Recommended Posts

As good a place as any to ask, anyone know how to get Fallout 3 to work on Windows 10? And just to clarify IT IS NOT THE GAME OF THE YEAR EDITION OF FALLOUT 3!!!

Every single walk through for getting it to work I find is for the GOTY edition and I've come to find out that fix does not work with the regular edition of the game.

But to put it simply, the game just freezes at certain points, and the only way to actually get out of the game after it freezes is to log out and log back into my Windows account or restart my PC. When I start at the first, the game will usually run fine with anywhere from 2-4 hours before it first freezes, but the longer I play, the more frequent the freezes become.

You need the GOTY version to fix the launcher.

Other wise you will need to install the Script Extender https://fose.silverlock.org/ and launch from that, just a tip you can refund the game and launch via the script extender to bypass the steam DRM so long as the game is installed.

I believe using the script extender lets you bypass Games for Windows live (windows 10 doesn't have it which is why it won't work)

Try this if it still isn't working. http://download.gfwl.xboxlive.com/content/gfwl-public/redists/production/gfwlivesetup.exe

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/1086/?tab=2&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Ffallout3%2Fajax%2Fmodfiles%2F%3Fid%3D1086&pUp=1

That also works to disable Windows Live, but you need to manually install it don't use a mod mananger.

Go to the fallout.ini file should be located at C:\users\yourname\Documents\My Games\Fallout3\FALLOUT.ini

Change bUseThreadedAI=0 to bUseThreadedAI=1 and  add iNumHWThreads=2 in a new line below it, make sure the line is seperate

To fix crashes disable all autosaves and install CASM for autosaves instead.
