4k or 144hz?

Recommended Posts

Posted  Edited by Snoopy

Looking for a new monitor but I can't decide between 4k or 1080 @ 144hz. I don't have enough money for both so what are your suggestions?

Also if you've got any recommendations on monitors I'd like to see them : )

Edit: Also considering 2k @ 144hz

GPU brand? and budget, I would suggest having around 400 usd when buying a new monitor but never the less if you can't afford that you could go with a TN panel I do enjoy my colors so I tend to go with IPS panels :L

yea I have a Nixeus EDG 27” IPS 2560 x 1440 AMD FreeSync Certified 144Hz Gaming Monitor with Premium Height Adjustable Ergonomic Stand (NX-EDG27)

this is the only one with G-Sync on the market it seems atm :L https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIAEYJ8D17664

without G-Sync sadly it seems to be out of stock https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIAB717DF2712 also not an IPS panel sadly it seems the FreeSync market is bloated af but you have a GPU that is not compatible with that :L

also I have only checked newegg.

it seems via a quick google search there is not much else when it comes to 2k and 144 hertz anyways I would suggest getting one of these https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812120717

If you're balling in cash right now:

Seen videos on it, but it's hella expensive. Looks cool though.

Both of those are well out of my price range aha. Looking at about $350 and before you say anything I'm well aware there won't be much.

I would suggest a 144 hertz tn panel then fyi the viewing angles are kinda dumb.

this seems to be a decent deal atm I guess https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIAB716WE2454 :L

just don't turn on the FreeSync

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-3555685/freesync-monitor-nvidia-gpu-experiences.html

explains the possible issue you may have but you can set a limit in terms of fps in most games.

I would personally go for 2k at 144Hz. I own a 1440p monitor with 165Hz, and I'm in love. The high frame display I think would be way more useful than that extra resolution quality when it comes to gaming. Good luck!

Here's my monitor: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?ignorebbr=true&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-Mobile&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-Mobile-_-pla-_-Gaming+Monitors-_-0JC-0004-00551&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI2srt8c_R3gIVCSlpCh1w0wiGEAQYAiABEgK68_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds&Item=0JC-0004-00551

Paired with G-sync, this monitor is a beast. I'd recommend this one ?

@Snoopy given that I know you're from England, here is probably one of the better deals and I believe it perfectly fits your budget as well!

Ebuyer (Long link so I made it smaller)

The branding is not good but the ratings for this monitor are very high. I am not entirely sure how long the Cyber Monday deals are going to go on for, but if you're after a 144hz+2k resolution then this is probably the best price you'll find (to be honest this is still a decent price for a 144hz 1080p monitor as well)!

You'll never get a monitor with G-Sync at any price point which is reasonable, so that feature (including free-sync) may as well be completely ignored.

@JerryBomb your link was useless from the gecko if I'm being honest sold out and most likely not even made anymore I'm guessing you have one of those :L

@eueuq https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-LC27JG50QQNZA-Curved-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B07FBNNWVV/

@TheJitFace even though his price range is far below that https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236885&Description=144hz monitor

Thank you for all the suggestions. I think it's safe to say that I'll go with 2k@144hz.

I'm gonna take a look at Darkling's one as that one is standing out to me at the moment. Reasonable price and gives me what I'm after. I don't do much gaming at the moment so spending a little less isn't an issue.
