Event #214 -- GFL's 10th Anniversary -- Evolution of ZE Edition

Event Overview:

Hello everyone!

Yes, you read the title. This event will be one of those pre-planned boys as we will be celebrating GFL's 10th anniversary in our own way!

 

For this event we've decided to take on the "evolution of Zombie Escape" theme. Remember those times when we thought Westersand v7 and Minas v3 would be the top maps and there'd be no new maps past that point, and we'd do nothing but play those maps basically on a daily basis? Remember when Gris came out and it changed the meta of ZE forever, changing the way we play these maps by loading them offline first and then flexing? Last but not least, remember those very old days when maps had no "levels",  hardly any usable items and zombies spawned with the humans every round?

 

If any of these eras rings a bell for you then congratulations! You've been around us for a bit. And this is exactly what we'll be doing this weekend! As much as we wanted to have the eras go by chronological order (day 1 being classic and day 3 being offliner) we figured that Sunday should still be a chill day considering the event will start at night time for some of our regulars, so all the "tryhard" maps will be played on Friday and Saturday instead, which is when most people will be able to play.

Notice:

• Events are scheduled in our Steam group, however, we also always announce over at our Discord server when the event begins.

Special Kickers:

• On Friday and Sunday, all maps will be played with our brand new "Classic GFL" settings to commemorate the event! But what are classic GFL settings?
  • Lower Zombie Knockback
  • 800 ammo for every weapon with no refills unless there's an ammo refill in the map
  • Fire grenades
  • High knife knockback
  • Rebuys enabled (at CS:S default weapon prices)
  • One kevlar rebuy costs $9,000
  • Modern plugins like Top Defender, Defender Money, NoShake, Transparency, BossHP, Hitmakers will be disabled. (This effectively makes you balance out your Kevlar rebuys with weapon rebuys so you can't just spam Kevlar)
  • Sunday maps will be played with crowdspawn enabled

Rewards:

An event like this surely must have some big rewards under the hood, and you'd be correct!

Thanks to the GFL management we'll be able to make something big out of this event, and unlike other events we have done before the rewards you'll get from this one will be global, meaning they will work in all of GFL and not just this server!

 

For this event we won't be rewarding winning maps, rather, just like how we did it in the Halloween event we'll be rewarding active participation to encourage more people to come hang out and play, rather than who gets lucky on Deadcore!

 

The way rewarding will work:

There are up to 15 different rewards to give away during this event which means only 15 people can win, so we will be giving rewards away in the form of a raffle.

 

To participate in the raffle all you have to do is be in the server the moment a map is won and winners of the map are captured (if a map is not beaten, then being there for the last round of the map will also count as participating), and even if you don't win the map you will still be counted as a participant. Once the last map of the event is over and once I have separated and counted how many players participated in which maps then the real raffle begins.

 

The raffle will work like so:

• If 15 players participated in all the maps, then all 15 players will be put into a Random.org list and list will be randomized a few times, list will be read from top to bottom and depending on position rewards will be given out.
• If 16 or more players participated in all the maps, then all 16 or more players will be put into a Random.org list and list will be randomized a few times, list will be read from bottom to top so those who are named at the bottom of the list will be counted out of the raffle until the first 15 people on the list are left. From this point onward we will follow the rules of the first point.
• If the event consists of 15 maps and 14 people participate in all 15 maps, and 12 people participate in 14 maps, then all 26 people will be put into a Random.org list. Just like in the previous step, names will be read from bottom to top, names that are are the bottom of the list will be counted out of the raffle.
• If the event consists of 15 maps and 2 people participate in all 15, 3 people participate in 14 maps, 5 people participate in 13 maps, 1 person participates in 12 maps, 3 people participate in 11 maps (so 14 people so far) and 16 people participate in 10 maps, then all 30 players will be put on the list, and from there the procedure will be the same.
• If the event consists of 15 maps and 2 people participate in all 15, 3 people participate in 14 maps, 5 people participate in 13 maps, 1 person participates in 12 maps, 4 people participate in 11 maps (so 15 people so far) and 16 people participate in 10 maps, then only the first 15 players will be put on the list since we reached 15 players at 11 participations, and from there the procedure will be the same.

 

This effectively means that the more maps you participate in the more chances you have of being added into the raffle and as you can see, participating in all the maps still doesn't guarantee that you'll win something 100%, it just means you have more chances of appearing in the final raffle!

 

The rewards:

Remember that once the final list is up the order in which you appear in the list will determine your reward, and  this is what you will be participating for:

• Players 11-15 will earn Global GFL VIP status for one month.
• Players 4-10 will earn Global GFL VIP for three full months.
• Players 1-3 will earn permanent Global GFL VIP.  (yes, Global GFL VIP means the rewards for this event will work on every server outside of CS:S ZE)

 

Once I have the lists ready I will be hosting a voice call over at our Discord server to determine the winners, if you are not in our Discord server then that's fine as I will post the winner results here once the whole event is over. 

 

NOTE: If you already have Perma VIP and you end up winning any of the rewards mentioned above, you're free to give it away to whoever you choose to.

NOTE: Winners must have a forum account in order to be given their rewards!

 

Rules:

• This event will be of chill but also tryhard nature, micspamming / off-topic is allowed so long as it's not overshadowing / overly spammy.
• Regular server rules will apply for this event as usual.
• Sitting in spec unless you're a spectating admin is not allowed.
• Each map on Friday and Saturday will be played for up to 120 minutes with the following conditions:
  • Paranoid will be played for 45 minutes maximum
  • Mako will be played up to Extreme 2, considering there were none of these new gamemodes back in the day.
  • Depending on how long we take with the previous maps, Deadcore may be played up to regular stage D or just stage D. (no Redcore runs though).
  • Maps on Sunday will be played for up to 60 minutes.

I don't think this server has ever had fall damage enabled, at least not since 2013-2014. That one's a pF boi.

As much as we wanted to bring back things like stacking or grenades damaging players we couldn't find a way of doing so without compromising the stability of the server. As far as I'm aware these aren't plugins but rather these are fixes hard-embedded into the server, so if we were to disable these fixes in order to really have the "Classic" feeling, we'd also be disabling other important server fixes with it. (I could be wrong though).

In order to keep things transparent I decided to document the entire raffle in this post so that those who weren't there can see how things went. After counting participants we came up to the total count of 13 people who participated in every map and 3 people who participated in 13 maps. This came up to the following 16 people:

Following the rules stated in the main post, we took all 16 participants and put them through a list randomizer that was rolled 5 times, whoever showed up at the bottom of the list would be disqualified from the raffle. Here's the result after the 5th roll:

 

 

Unfortunately, Ventus was picked as the last name in the list and therefore was counted out of the raffle. After this we finally had the top 15 participants, and we rolled the list 5 more times. The winners came out like so:

 

 

You may be wondering why are some of the names crossed out then. The good men Mercy, Longus, willy and Prizmo decided to give away their rewards in the form of a second re-roll. Considering there were 4 rewards to be re-rolled, I took Ventus (who was excluded from the first roll) and took all players who participated in 12 maps. Just like we've been doing this whole raffle I re-rolled the list 5 times and these were the winners of that second re-roll:

 

 

List shows Earthquake first and then Xehanort, so he should've gotten the 3 months instead? This is because near the end of the raffle Mercy decided to give away his 3 month reward, so I gave it away to the person who followed after Earthquake (who was already picked to win 1 month of Global VIP at this point).

 

 

NOTICE:

As of me posting this, if you are in the winners list posted at the start of this post you have a one week period (until February 8th, 2021) to post in this thread with your forum account to confirm that you indeed have a forum account. If you DON'T post anything until that day then your reward will be lost and you'd hate to be that guy, you really would.
