Hey everyone, I just wanted to announce that today is GFL's birthday! GFL is now nine years old. It was founded on January 25th, 2011. It's hard to believe that nine years ago my 14 year old self was on the Steam group creation page and somehow thought of the name "Games For Life". With that said, it's funny to think that I made the group as a joke initially, but that surely took a turn! While GFL has had its ups and downs over the years, it has always came out strong. I wanted to thank everyone who has contributed to GFL over the years along with everyone who plays on our servers. None of this would be possible without you! Now enough talking and let's celebrate Thanks!

I've been a regular on the server for many years and really enjoy the community. During that time i have met many good players and made great friends. I've also noticed much toxicity and rule breaking when other admins are not online, especially during my usual hours. As a result i've decided to apply for admin so i can help keep the server in control, specifically during asian time when most admins are asleep. I would be commited to penalizing rule breakers and keeping a good vibe so other players can enjoy their experience on GFL ZE.

Hey everyone, I just wanted to share some graphs and numbers showing GFL's recent progress in the past few months for those interested. Honestly, GFL hasn't been doing as well as it is now since early 2016 (before the new website) in regards to server/website numbers. Website Registrations We are now starting to reach 60+ registrations daily. We haven't had this high of a number since the new website was released in mid-2016 (which had an obvious spike because of the existing community and new website launch). Total Online In-Game Players We track the most online users in-game here (peak). I check this daily and in the last couple months, we've been hitting around 500 - 600+ players daily (peak). Unfortunately, we don't have a graph that tracks daily numbers (I had one built at one point years ago and implemented into the IPS 4 beta website using a JavaScript library (Charts.JS?), but it didn't work after importing to the live website). However, I do believe we still track these numbers in the database. Therefore, we may be able to build a graph in the future which will show historical data as well. Anyways, we beat our old record which occurred sometime in early 2017 due to a CS:GO matchmaking outage (so community servers saw more activity) on May 12th, 2019. Our record is currently at 643 players online at the same time on all GFL servers. We've been getting very close to that number since then. As of right now, I'd say we're in the stabilizing phase meaning we're waiting for our new hosting provider and working to improve our current servers on the Anycast network along with the network itself. We've only added a couple servers to our rotation recently which don't consume much resources. I'd say we'll start adding more servers after a couple months or so. Servers On The Anycast Network Many of our servers have been doing well on our Anycast network. You can find a full list here. However, I just wanted to share them here as well. Our Rust server reached 165 players around two weeks ago or so. Unfortunately, due to no support for fragmented UDP packets on the Anycast network via Compressor, GameTracker hasn't recorded these numbers. However, you can see our server tracker recorded it at 165/200 here. Fun note - we've never had a single server reach this many players before (GFL started running in 2011). The server that held this record beforehand was probably our old GMod Purge server which would get to 95 - 105 players back in 2014 - 2016. We now have three successful TF2 servers. Two in which are in the top 10! If it weren't for GameTracker deranking many legitimate servers, we'd also have three CS:GO servers in the top 10. Two in which are Surf Timer. I'd like to note how well our 64-slot Surf Timer server has been doing as of recent. These servers are getting closer to how our CS:GO Surf Timer servers did back in 2014 - 2016. Our CS:GO ZE server is still the top CS:GO server in the world (which it has been for the last three - four years or so) which is still amazing, by the way. Our CS:GO Arena, BHop, and JailBreak servers are also doing well on the new network. Our Fistful of Frags server rarely empties out! And finally, our GMod servers on the network are doing great! Prop Hunt and TTT seem to never drop below 15. We also have an in-game player tracking database that recorded at 3+ million unique players since 2014. However, I don't have any numbers right now. There is also a high chance the new servers don't have this plugin installed. I plan to look into this at some point and get our servers updated with the new plugin. Thank you! I just wanted to thank everyone who is contributing to our progress. From playing on our servers, to visiting the website, to administrating, and donating. Everything helps! This is called a gaming community for a reason. Everybody helps contribute towards the community's progress one way or another. I understand there are a lot of improvements still needed. There are still concerns about the amount of donations we receive, etc. We are also making tweaks to our Anycast setup. We are waiting for our new hosting provider who will offer a better performing CPU and will be ultimately cheaper than what we are paying for now. With that said, the Anycast network itself needs improvements. However, we won't be able to do this until I can get Scorch Host going which is still the plan. I know I am not as active within the community itself. I am only trying to participate in the technical side of GFL. However, I will still do my best to guide everybody in the right direction if possible. I will also be taking a big step back to start working on Scorch Host once things calm down in GFL and I have a game plan. I will also try to get more numbers and graphs I can display which will show GFL's recent progress. I hope you enjoy the read and thank you for your time.

I was more than happy to help out Pedro administrating the servers once they booted, but such is life, got one year to go in the military and as i'm once again operational, I don't really feel like wasting every second weekend that I get to be at home by playing on my computer. Honestly, it's a goodbye to GFL pretty much. This is kind of a bitter-sweet ending for me, anyone that knows me around here knows that i've been here for a long time on and off. Once I finish this year (hopefully without a war breaking out), I'll be working a few months and then travelling around a little. Anyone here who might do that as well, see ya in the far far east. Once i'm back from that i'll start my life I suppose. It's been a great run, stay positive you shitlords.

In the Beginning, there was nothing. Then, I arrived. With my peerless mental and physical strength, I set GFL onto the right path. CSS, TF2, GMOD, my pure gamer skill and adminship was unmatched. After many years of just and glorious rule as a Council Member, I decided to ascend back to heaven. Many of you have probably heard this story before. But now as I look down from the heavens onto the mortal plane that is Gflclan, I see evil, corruption, simping, and greed. This place of order has fallen into chaos. I realized in my infinite wisdom that my job was not yet done, so I have returned to set things right. Username: Floopyhiggle Desired Position: Director or God Emperor of GFL Steamid: STEAM_0:1:14659950 Strengths: Peerless Mental and Physical Strength (mentioned above) I do not require sleep, so I can rule over the masses 24/7. 300kg grip strength using only my toes. 2 minute mile. Feel free to make said subforum and sticky this post as I am the only one GFL needs. Please refer to the images below as examples of my Divinity and Might. I decided to reapply because I would like to help the server, which for five years has become a great platform for me in spending free time. I really like to share my experience and help other players, as it is useful for the development of the community. As an admin in past i know how to resolve difficult situations on the server and hold long-term discussions with the people who are trieng to brake the rules. I have the experiance in bilateral conversations with mic spammers and trolls. As an old zombie escape player i met a lot of good people and friendly boys ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) who are taking part of amazing atmosphere of GFL. I would like to add that i am not respekting the people who trying to boost the zombies, using glitches and cading their teammates because it is ruining the fun of playing ZE and make the people nervous. In conclusion i would like to add that i am ready to answer on all your questions and lets provide server amazing future together 😊

Nightime, sometimes all day, work from home as a student so depends on midterms, finals, GRE, etc. Do you have any unique skill sets that can help with maintaining/improving the server? Technical knowledge in CSS or CSGO Server management (previous admin on sG and gfl css ze) Some experience in graphic design (video editing and graphics for my youtube, nothing too professional but have done this sort of stuff) Customer Service experience (interning for a politician, as well as previously working as a seller during my schools football games) Are you in school or already in the workforce? School Workforce Both (Part time school and Part time work) Are you able to understand any other languages besides English? English, French, and very basic German Why do you want to become an admin? I've been playing on gfl's cs go server for a few years now, but have become more active on it recently due to enjoying the community more and more. I really do enjoy playing here, and have stayed due to making more and more friends on this server, and enjoying the company of most of the people and players. I've been an admin before on both sG and on gfl's css server (in regards to gfl css I asked the most active manager, vanya, for his permission and he wished me luck in my app so there shouldn't be a conflict of interest), I really do enjoy both communities and hope to see them both flourish and am applying to admin to help them do so. I'm an experienced player who can bring a variety of skills to the table in regards to being an admin, and while I may have a slightly different mindset than most of the admin team, I am willing to conform my ideals in order to provide a better gaming experience to the gfl the player base. I think anyone who knows me will know that I am open, honest, and earnest. I have never once broken server rules as either a gfl css ze or sG ze admin, and wouldn't dream of doing it here (if anyone has taken notice I have curved my usage of certain words, and although I may not agree with the ruling on a moral level, I will abide by it and strictly enforce it). I want to apply as I feel that much of the current admin team isn't as active as I'd like them to be and would like to throw my hat into the mix as an active player. I also have a fair bit of experience and like to think I'm a good mediator for people and their issues. I bring a lot of map knowledge to the table, and haven't submitted my application without putting a decent amount of thought into becoming part of the cs go ze admin team. Just to conclude, I'd like to say that while I may be somewhat rowdy and rambunctious at times, I am not taking the decision to apply for admin here lightly, and am doing so believing that I can help the server through applying.

Hey everyone, I just wanted to say we've made another achievement! We've hit over 1000 active users on all GFL's game servers at the same time! This hasn't happened since 2015. Our all-time record is 1300 players on at the same time and keep in mind we had a TS3 server at 100+ users at the time being tracked. Therefore, the actual record for players on at the same time for game servers is probably around 1200. I just wanted to say thank you to everybody who has contributed to the community Our next record to beat is getting above 10,000 users on our official Discord server which I hope to achieve soon-ish once we fix the GMod Discord Integration addon! I think it's amazing we continue to make these achievements many years later as well! Thank you.

Hi, I am going to be taking a break from GFL for a while. I've been putting in a lot of work into the Anycast network, new machines, and plans with GFL recently. However, I feel I'm overloading myself more than usual and it has been impacting me negatively (I've also been stressed from my full-time job and personal issues as well which isn't helping). I also need to focus more on my new company (GFL has been consuming most of my time, unfortunately). All current projects I am handling in GFL will be put on-hold for a bit (e.g. the Anycast build out, and so on). I am probably going to be doing some research on some things still since I am interested in the technical aspect of it all and that doesn't really burn me out. I am also not removing my roles. Please reach out to others if you need anything GFL-related. If you want to talk to me about non-GFL related things, I am fine with that and feel free to reach out Thank you for understanding.

My Age: 16 My Talent: Introduction Hello everyone. My name is Dustin Priest, who uses the screen name of "Rocket". I have been programming for a year now. And within that year I have self-taught myself two languages. Java and C++. In that year, I have already put in hundreds of hours developing various projects to gain experience as a programmer, along with doing research on many things related to programming to expand my experience and efficiency as a programmer. I plan to self teach myself Lua soon, and possibly Python in a later time. I would like to apply for a developer position to gain further experience while helping GFL improve. I want to gain further experience for a few reasons. One reason being, I plan to have a lifelong career as a programmer. In the next few years I will begin chasing that career by starting my major in computer science. During those 3 years I want to make solo projects, and possibly even gain experience in what working in a "workplace" setting would be like. Getting a job as a developer here would give me an opportunity to experience that and learn from it. That way I am prepared for college, and any jobs I find in the future. I specifically would like to apply here because GFL has been a pretty enjoyable experience thus far. I haven't taken part in many forums in my past. This is the first time I've had genuine interest in a community like this. The staff members here are mature and reasonable, something that was lacking in many other communities I once took part in. And so far, GFL has the best staff team in a Trouble in Terrorist Town server I've ever seen. And I'm really glad to see something like that. (I am currently applying to be a staff member in that server right now :D) My Projects So far, all of my projects have been solo projects. Aka, projects that only I have worked on. I sometimes spend 8 hours a day on a single project if I am passionate enough about it (depending on what important responsibilities are needing to be tended to outside of the computer). Of course I still take breaks here and there, I'm not a robot haha. My biggest projects are the ones I have posted in the interests forum, where the programming section is. The discord bot that can communicate between servers, and the game. The discord bot allows you to have lobbies for joinable party games between multiple servers, and even between DM's through the bot itself. The game is a unique precision platformer where all the action takes place within the pixels of a png image (So you can literally design gameplay inside a image editor). I have also written some posts in the tutorial section of that programming forum. Right now I have not made any open source projects. Though I would like to make some tutorials on things related to programming. Like making discord bots with that lobby system I spoke of, and game development or GUI application development using SFML (the engine I use for my C++ GUI applications). If any staff members who review this need to see some of the code I have written, I can provide unlisted video links showcasing my game and its code in private DM's and explain a little on the discord bot code. I am also open to make small GUI programs/console programs/etc. for any "tests" I might be given. Something to give me an idea on what could happen if I had a position as a developer in GFL. As of right now I only know Java and C++, but like I said, I do plan on learning Lua next month after I take care of a really important thing. My Availability My schedule is a little unpredictable, but it does have times where I am very free to work on projects. As of writing this (August 25th) I will be busy next month in September, however. I am studying for my GED and will need 2 weeks for preparation and test taking. So my Lua studies will likely start in the middle of September. This also means I may not be 100% as active as I would normally be until my GED is complete. However, since my GED will be complete I will be very open to work long hours on important projects for GFL. Besides the GED testings, I can have days where I work multiple hours on a program. This means even though my "How active can you be?" section will equal out to roughly 3 hours a day, I can do more than 3 hours a day a large portion of the time. However, my schedule can still be unpredictable. So I won't always be available. But you can expect me to be available most of the time, at least. Other Contact Information Besides PM'ing me here, there are other means of contacting me. You can contact me through my discord: Dustin#5962. But for business related inquiries I can provide a phone number (to trusted staff only) and email address for easier contact. Thank you for considering my application. I would like to say that C++ is where I am the most experienced in because it is the language I have done the most work in, but I can develop things using Java. I will be learning Lua after my GED testing is complete, and that will hopefully open up more opportunities. Hours/Week: 21

Hi, I just wanted to inform everyone that I will be inactive for a while and completely away from GFL. I don't believe this'll be permanent, but we'll see. I believe our current higher ups will keep everything up and going in GFL while I'm gone. Recently, I've felt very burnt out from GFL and generally unhappy while being in the community since I'm working on GFL-related things only (back-end wise), but not focusing on my actual life. I have a lot of health issues at the moment and I need to focus on those areas of my life (I'm finally close to finding a doctor). I still plan to keep learning programming and networking since I am very interested in those areas and plan to still make the packet processing software for the Anycast network. However, I will be trying to take a two - three week break before working on that. With that said, the project will take time to make due to its complexity. Anyways, thank you for understanding.

I know I'm pretty known for doing this but this time, it's permanent (unless super-director becomes a thing ) I am officially stepping down from director. I feel as though I've contributed as much as possible with my knowledge, and that at this point, I don't give enough positive results to warrant me keeping this position. I'd rather take my leave knowing I did all I could than remain and feel useless to the community I've called home for years everyday I look at our forums. To those who have supported me along the way and got me as far as I've gotten, you are my world. I live every single day of my life knowing there is good in the world willing to help those who need it. I hope to stay in contact with most of you, and if not, I'll always appreciate the time you've been in my life. To those who have hated me and tried to keep me back, try again nerds I plan to stick around to help out here and there with PR and chill in the main discord, so don't think I'm gone with the wind either Time for everyone's favorite part: like farming the special mentions. @Roy for having faith in me since we first met, and giving me the chance to climb to the top. A great friend for life @Liloz01 the brit who kept me sane dealing with the room temp iq moments. Also my husband @Ben The man who vouched for me and helped me reach director, an inspiration @JadedJade The only one I trust to make PR shine like it was meant to. @MilkMan Forever my manager @Leks fuk u loser @Zero the first admin i saw on ttt that is still around today, a good friend who screenshares porn with @Pancake Jenkins @Harakoni obligatory "we fight alot but it wouldn't be the same without you" mention @Korowa @Royce @Toni Bamanaboni for being my greatest friends and family @VilhjalmrF valhalla waits, brother @motorsteak we rose together from admins to leaders. Keep on truckin @flyingjoe32 @Pyros @Nick People I enjoy talking to the most thats not tagged yet (i love you all mostly equally) All of the TTT Staff - My gateway into this community. I'll always be thankful. @Pedro and his entire division for being the next big thing that gives me hope GFL is on the rise again. Even if his managers are 4heads and all the other friends I made in this community along the way. From harry to Xy. You're all pretty cool. 😎 And with that, I'll be seeing you guys in the discord (or in my stream I'm always self promoting Thank you GFL; Last one out turn the lights off. -WigglesWorth

If you do not remember or were not here for last year’s demographics, here are the results (the results from the year before should also be on there). There is not much purpose for this other than pure curiosity. We have expanded the amount of questions and made edits to previous questions from last year’s demographic to get additional and more accurate statistics. Note: this is completely anonymous. This will close on December 31st and the results will be posted on January 1, 2020. Please share this with everyone you know in GFL. Our goal is to reach over 200 participants this year!!! Thank you so much! PLEASE FILL OUT THIS FORM: https://forms.gle/2MBEX6nEyjK97JEY6 I want to personally give a huge thanks to Queue for starting this tradition and allowing us to keep the tradition alive.

Hey everyone, I made a status update for this, but I figured it's worth a thread since it's a pretty big accomplishment for GFL! We have hit over $10000 as our balance for the first time ever. This counter indicates how much money we have in our PayPal balance for those that do not know. For those that don't know, at some point in 2016 (four years ago), we only had a balance of $200 - $500 and owed $1000+ at one point. We nearly died at this time and the fact that we're now at $10000+ shows how far the community has come I also want to mention that all money donated to GFL goes into GFL only. Therefore, we're going to be spending quite a bit once @Dreae and I complete Compressor V2 and we start to heavily expand our Anycast infrastructure. I just wanted to thank all of our Supporters and VIPs for making this possible! Thank you.

Hey everyone, I already made all of our staff aware of this a few days ago, but I wanted to make it official/public. The Background Between Dagreek and I In the last few months, I've been trying to decide what I wanted to do with Scorch Host, a new company I was creating. Progress was stalled because I've been trying to sort out other things in my life including GFL, my current full-time job, etc. @dagreek and I have been talking since around May or June since he found my post regarding our Anycast network and initially, he was going to be creating his own Anycast network. However, since it was very expensive to build a powerful network, he decided he wanted to be a client of Scorch Host when it released (since we'd be offering remote (D)DoS protection via Anycast). Around the beginning of Scorch Host's development, I offered him a position in Scorch Host, but at the time he declined the offer (understandably). Fast forward to the last two months or so. Dagreek and I have still been talking and I've stated that Scorch Host hasn't made any progress because of the above. It wasn't even a registered company yet. After stating this, Dagreek asked me if I wanted to build a company with him and use the company he has registered already. I accepted the offer. This company will have the same goals as Scorch Host, but we'll be both working to build it together. There are still a lot of decisions that need to be made along with building a game plan for the company itself. However, we'll be taking care of that internally and once we have something official to announce, we'll let GFL know. I do plan to advertise this company highly within GFL as well and GFL will be using services from the new company (e.g. the future Anycast network which I have a lot of confidence in). The Opportunity For GFL Dagreek also owns a gaming community called Coffee House Gaming. They host a few servers in CS:GO, Squad, etc. As of right now, Dagreek has two and soon to be, three dedicated servers colocated in a DC located in Dallas, TX. Here are the specs of the machines: Machine #1 AMD 2nd Gen Ryzen Threadripper with 32 cores and 64 threads. Water cooled and overclocked to 3.8 GHz each core. 128 GBs of RAM. 2 TBs of NVMe storage. 1 gigabit port. Dallas, TX (soon to be NYC, read below). Linux OS. Machine #2 AMD Ryzen 9 3900x with 12 cores and 24 threads. Water cooled and clocked at auto speeds (around 4.0 - 4.4 GHz). 32 GBs of RAM. 2 TBs of NVMe storage. 1 gigabit port. Dallas, TX (soon to be NYC, read below). Linux OS. Machine #3 (Not Colocated Yet) Intel i9-9900K with 8 cores and 16 threads. Water cooled and overclocked to 5.0 GHz on all cores. 32 GBs of RAM (uncertain). 2 TBs of NVMe storage (uncertain). 1 gigabit port. New York City. Windows OS. Dagreek offered to host any GFL servers for free at this time on these machines since the machines are already built and he can afford the current and future rack himself. With that said, there is plenty of room on all of these machines. Dagreek is only hosting game servers from his community on these machines and that's about it. The above calculates to a total of 52 cores and 104 threads. GFL has never had this much room before. In fact, not even close. With that said, the performance on these machines is unbelievable. They all are very good in my opinion, especially for single-threaded performance (what matters the most with SRCDS and most game servers). While I personally dislike Windows, there are some games that are only supported on Windows and don't work with Wine (e.g. DayZ). Therefore, we'll be able to expand into that game as long as it's okay with Dagreek on machine #3. Plus, the Intel i9-9900K overclocked to 5 Ghz is probably one of best CPUs out there regarding single-threaded performance at this moment. If there is ever a time that Dagreek would like GFL to pay a certain amount for the rack, we will more than likely be doing so. If the company doesn't work out, Dagreek stated he can still host GFL's servers, he also stated it would be appreciated if we can chip in payments towards the rack if this is the case though, which is fair. With that said, I understand there will be a lot of comments stating "this is too good to be true". However, I was given proof these machines were colocated and was also given root access to machine #1 and machine #2 which both lived up to their expectations (it was crazy seeing 32 cores and 64 threads in htop by the way, which can be found here). I also confirmed the RAM count, storage type/size, and CPU clock speeds which also lived up to their expectations. I setup a few dummy servers as well and they all ran well from under our Anycast network. Our Anycast network only had a ~1ms ping to the machines which was acceptable/good. Now in regards to security, this was one of the biggest concerns. I've been taking measures internally along with Dagreek himself to ensure nothing malicious can happen. Now in the case of Dagreek becoming malicious, the most he can do is delete our server files and possibly global databases (not the website, though). The game servers don't connect to any global databases containing sensitive information and each server and database is backed up regularly. GFL still currently owns its Anycast network along with IPs. Now, I doubt any of this will happen and after talking to Dagreek for 4 - 5 months now, I do trust him. However, it's always important to be prepared. In the case of things not working out completely, I am going to be forming a contract that states GFL has x amount of days to get their data off of the machines which is fair and Dagreek agreed. Finally, we will be taking all of this slowly. We will probably be keeping two machines from Nexril for a bit and expand by using these new machines. Once everything is proven stable and good to go, we can fully move over to the new machines. Moving Servers To A New DC Now, in the next few days, Dagreek will be working to move the servers to a new data center which should be a long-term move. This is because the current DC located in Dallas, TX only supports 30 TBs of bandwidth with the rack and that can only host around 200+ servers (I'd say average, for GFL anyways). The new DC will be located in New York City. This will give our European players a better ping. The average ping from the West Coast to this new location is around 60 - 70ms which is pretty decent in my opinion, but that also depends on the ISP and routing. Once this is completed, I will let you all know and we can start putting up official game servers for GFL. Dagreek's Role In GFL I have given @dagreek the Technical Administrator role within GFL because I feel that's the least we can do. Dagreek won't be playing a role directly in GFL at this moment. However, the machines will be owned by himself. I also told Dagreek if he's ever interested in playing a direct role in GFL in the future, just let me know. Conclusion Basically, I will be building a new company with Dagreek. Dagreek offered to host GFL servers spread across three machines that will be colocated and I accepted. The machines come with very high performance and a lot of room. With that said, Dagreek expects no payment from GFL at this moment. It's an offer that was too good to refuse. If this all ends up going well (taking it slowly obviously), there's a chance GFL won't be paying anything for their physical game machines. This means GFL will be able to save more or spend more money into the community itself or other resources (e.g. buying things to make our game servers better). Dagreek has been given the Technical Administrator role, but will not be playing a direct role in GFL itself, for now. That's it for now! If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reply. Thank you!

Well, I'll start off pretty bluntly: Breach isn't doing as good as it used to. The population always seems to be staggering, with activity only at certain points in the day. Breach playercount in the past 30 days. The player count appears to fluctuate often these days. I've seen people in discord comment about "why is the server dead right now", and there is a general feeling that it isn't active or is slowly dying. Rather than sit idly by and hope it becomes extremely active again, I'd like to poll players on what they want to see in the server. It's no secret that I'm not that active on the server, and so I might be out of touch with the playerbase (how do you do, fellow kids?). The main question here is thus, "What would make the server more interesting/enjoyable or would draw in new players?". I'd like to explain a few of the options in depth: New Maps: These maps would be voted on by the players, to make sure they're maps they liked. Conversely, we could remove some less liked maps. New Playable SCPs/Classes: These would also be voted on by the players. Balance changes: These can be heavily debated. A lot of players can think something is OP and a lot can think it is underpowered, so it is difficult to reach a happy medium. New Special rounds/Changes to special rounds: Once again, this depends on what people want. Some enjoy some special rounds, some hate them. Event rounds: This is something I'm interested in. Essentially, it would be like Xy's old idea of turning SCP-1730 into a round, or my idea of the Termination of SCP-096, or maybe even Roleplay rounds. They would require a lot of work, but might be a nice interruption to the normal gameplay. New items/Interact-able entities: This means new SCP objects, whether they are collectibles or actual items, but it also means things like 1126 or 038; large objects that could do everything from teleport you to heal you to kill you. Making the gamemode harder: Honestly, this seems like a good idea to me. It's quite easy for a D class to get a level 2, upgrade it to level 3, and run to EZ, or upgrade to level 4/5 and get guns. Or, even easier, there are guns that don't need a keycard. The game might be more interesting if it posed a harder challenge; if SCPs had more health and could kill you in more interesting ways than the Left Click of Instant Death. Pointshop additions: I added this just in case some people are interested in more things in pointshop. It might mean more downloads for the server, though. I also added a few questions about the time you individually spend on the server and why you think the server has less activity. Feel free to comment below if you want to give more ideas for the server or give a longer explanation for your answers. Thanks!

Your In-Game Name: kakarot Your Steam ID: STEAM_1:1:94438395 Mute Reason and Length: Mic spamming and screaming, permanent mute. Admin That Muted You: P2ss Appeal Reason: Hi, my name is kakarot also i go by the name of THE K BROTHERHOOD FAMILY, and i have been in the gfl community since 2015 when the server was at its prime development for growth in terms of gaming experience and performance. However reluctantly at that time, i was not to famialiar with the system and caused a ruckus in the community in order to bring the moral and fun down. With that being said, i have been one of the most annoying and disturbing players with what other players considered me to be a threat in the community due to my negative behavior. Therefore, i got multiple mutes and gags as well as in the addition of silences by previous server managers and of course admins. As i gradually understood how the ze community worked back when i was silenced, at one moment of that time, they have decided to give me a chance of how i have decided to change my attitude towards leading maps instead of just being toxic and salty to players during the moments they were taking the game very seriously. With that approach in mind, i started to become a leader rather being an infuriating player. In result, it was a slight adjustment of behavior to the community, however, the majority of the players and admins found a flaw of this new shift of demeanor and it was the way i started screaming, ranting, yelling, and talking very loud on the microphone deliberately. My perception to this was not to initiate another issue of disarangement on the server but instead entertain players in a comedic manner. Nonetheless, with the community not being too convinced with the way in the predicament i placed myself, yet again, off of youtube videos, intentionally based on entertainment, being posted on the server back in 2017, the whole admin team decided that it was time to actually permanantly mute me and leave it as it is . Some might agree and some might disagreee by the action that took place, but at the end of the day the admins and managers have the last laugh of decision-making. Since then, i have been muted for 3 years ongoing and with my return in 2020 i hope all of you have a different taste of my behavior not only in game but also in chat as well. thank you for taking the time of considering and reading my appeal and have a good gaming day! sincerly, kakarot 1.https://sourcebans.gflclan.com/index.php?p=commslist&searchText=kakarot&Submit=Search The permanant mute was based on this youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RrvEnNMJCnQ

what's up gamers its ya boi, i'm gonna keep this kinda short so it doesn't turn into a marathon to read. I just wanted to check in, say hello and let you guys know how things are going. I've hung out in the Discord every now and then but I've definitely been busy. I'm still passionate about Overwatch and OWL and still going strong. My mechanics aren't the best and they're keeping me at about Gold level but I've been climbing and I'm pretty sure I should be able to reach Plat next season. I've also gotten my driver's license, been working at Sooubway, got a new girlfriend who's amazing, and i'm managing to keep up pretty good grades so far in my junior year. Last year was really stressful on pretty much all fronts and I'm really happy things are passing over and starting to get better. Stepping back to Overwatch, I've found a new org called NFG and I have tried out and made the roster for their Academy team as a hyper flex player. (Mostly off tank and dps at the moment) They're excellent and I'm having a lot of fun and learning even more. @keentime my old friend has come with me through a lot of team stuff and we still have a good talk and reminisce about GFL every now and then. I see a lot of changes in GFL, including some servers that are gone. @Zero Excellent work making it to DL my friend. I wish I could make a full time return to this community, but I don't think I have enough time to make it worth it. I just wanted to check in and let you guys know I haven't forgotten about you Maybe I'll stop by more frequently over a break from school, I'd love to catch up and hear about all the cool things that are going on. You guys are awesome and keep up the great work. Anyone new since I left, welcome to the community that became my family for so long. Anyone feel free to message me on Discord (Winter#6242) and i'd love to talk sometime. Thanks guys

This is the first time I've ever done this and it's the last time too, but I kind of just dipped so Media Team and everyone else deserves to at least know why I did Honestly, I wasn't really doing what I should've been doing as a Team Leader and that's pretty bad on its own. I've just been generally unmotivated to do stuff and I've been starting to kind of go inactive, so it's best I leave and hope some one can replace me and do a much better job instead of me taking up space as another inactive TL. I'm resigning from Media entirely and Minecraft. I know I wasn't admin (trial, to be exact) for that long but I mainly joined the server because I like to chill and play the game with friends sometimes. In all honesty, I should've declined the offer, and as much as I wanted to help out Remuchu with the server, I just didn't see myself as qualified enough for the job, so the same reason I left Media applies to the server. Congratulations to everyone who was promoted, by the way. You're all great people and I know you'll do an amazing job. I'm staying as a Discord Moderator since I like to hang out with you peeps and talk in the Discord, so my activity will pretty much be unchanged on the Discord. I'm still going to be on the forums of course, but I don't really post much unless I really feel like it or have to. GFL as a whole just isn't as fun for me anymore. I don't play on any of the servers for months now except Minecraft occasionally lol Anyway, that's all I had to say, really. Won't tag anyone because it takes effort and honestly it's pointless since I'll basically still hang out with everyone I normally hang out with lol. Just wanted to let everyone know why I mysteriously dipped and didn't say anything to anyone (tbh I was lazy to just specify in like 3 servers but I figured some would want to know lol). A lot of the people I spoke to about this agrees that GFL just has a generally toxic environment and it's just not good to work with imo. I know I was one of the toxic kids some years ago but I grew out of that thankfully. Most people don't like me because of those times since I've done a lot of dumb stuff lol but it's understandable And now I'm just a blueberry

So, here's a rundown. Over some time I have attempted to create a discord bot that could communicate between multiple servers who have the bot. I did this in hopes to make a "massive multiplayer" game system. This way, people could join into lobbies to play party games with others. During my development I discovered that you could actually even do this in the bots DM's. Meaning you wouldn't have to be in a server with the bot to do anything. This was huge. If the bot plans became popular I would've even made a poker system, but not enough people expressed interest in the bot for me to put in the effort. I already had other plans, so this discord bot wasn't a priority. The bot was developed using JDA. Of course, it was developed in Java. Here are some of the videos of me testing the bot (and each test going successfully after a few tries):

Hey guys! Some of you guys may remember me. I was a community advisor a couple years back and was floating around GMOD and a little CS:GO. I started out by being an admin on TTT and making my way from there. I even was the Deathrun manager at one point (but populating it is too hard :c). I ended up resigning due to loss of interest and inactivity (and the fact that my mac is literally shitting itself trying to run some of these games). While I don't necessarily plan on returning, I wanted to check in since it's been a while. How are yall doin?

Hey everyone! I just wanted to provide an update/announcement on our recent performance issues on our game servers running under our Anycast network ( I want to announce I created a fix for issue #1 (read below). POP Server Overloading From Game Server Outbound Traffic (Issue #1) For months, we've been suffering from performance issues on our NYC servers. One server this was very noticeable on was Rust Modded. For more information on the issue itself, you may read the end of this post here. Recently, I've been working hard to create a fix for this issue. I've made many attempts to get this issue resolved by using standard Linux functionality such as IPTables. You can read more about that here. Unfortunately, these attempts didn't work because SRCDS doesn't support binding to multiple interfaces (e.g. one for receiving and the other for sending). After learning more about the TC hook, which would allow me to make a program to modify ingress and egress traffic. I've decided to try creating a TC BPF program that would utilize the TC egress hook. I wanted the program to attach to the TC egress filter (outgoing packets) and check for IPIP packets. Once an IPIP packet is found, it makes sure the outer IP header's source address matches the interface's IP address. This tells us it's definitely an outgoing IPIP packet. From here, it makes a copy of the outer IP header's destination address, which would be the forwarding server's IP (in our case, the game server/Anycast IP) and then strip the outer IP header. Afterwards, it replaces the inner IP header's source address and recalculates the layer 3 (IP) and layer 4 (transport protocol such as UDP, TCP, and so on) header's checksums. While this was fairly difficult due to the complexity of TC + BPF, I learned a lot and got through it. After multiple headaches, I'm happy to announce I created a program that should resolve this specific performance issue! I made a TC egress program that does the above and released the source code here This program will improve performance on our game servers. It also has the following advantages to our setup: Less load on POP servers that reside in the same location as the game servers since outbound game server traffic won't need to go through the closest POP server to the game server machines. Less bandwidth overage fees (probably will save us $300 - $400/m which is a huge amount!). We won't need a beefy POP in the locations our game servers reside in. We may use hosting providers that aren't in the same location as the POP servers. Less latency since the traffic won't have to flow through the closest POP server. The outbound traffic will be sent back to the client directly. We can scale our POP coverage more efficiently since we won't have to worry about game server outbound traffic. Eliminates one single-point-of-failure. There really aren't any cons to this program as long as the program's performance is well which is to be expected. The TC hook is fairly fast since it's implemented early on in the Linux networking path. Egress traffic should be fine as well. I'm going to be making some optimization improvements to the program here soon as well which should help. I've tested this on a new machine I've setup under our Anycast network and everything is working fine including TCP traffic. Our hosting provider in Dallas removed ACL rules that were preventing us from spoofing the inner IP header's source address as the Anycast/game server IP. Therefore, everything is working. I need to get the status on allowing us to spoof as our Anycast network from our hosting provider in New York City. As of right now, other than the new machine I setup, none of our game servers are running this program. In order to get the program working on our main machines, I will need to upgrade the kernel. The newer kernels add support for a mode with the BPF bpf_skb_adjust_room() function named BPF_ADJ_ROOM_MAC which is responsible for removing the outer IP header. Upgrading the kernel will require a reboot assuming everything goes well (which it should). Therefore, I'll be scheduling maintenance at some point to do this. Maintenance windows will be announced publicly and probably will be done later at night. In the meantime, I'm going to continue doing testing and fixing up some small things with the program. Once I feel we can start applying it to production machines (other than the new machine I setup that we'll be moving a couple servers slowly to), I'll let everyone know. Other Strange Routing Issues (Issue #2) We've had a few complaints from users experiencing high latency and packet loss on our game servers under the network. After inspecting some MTRs and trace routes the users supplied to me to our Anycast network, it appears NTT (our direct peer) has issues in some locations. I'd assume this is due to the big surge in traffic from the Coronavirus lock down. I've read that Telia (another peer) started processing 3 - 4 times more traffic after the Coronavirus lock down. I've also seen a lot of issues at my job relating to hosting providers and Microsoft. It's crazy! With that said, it seems some people are routing to our Seattle POP and the route the Seattle POP takes to our game server machines appears to get messed up resulting in high latency. I'm not sure what is causing this, but I may try removing NTT as a direct peer temporarily to see if anything improves. I also plan to make a ticket with our POP hosting provider to see if they're able to assist with this (not holding my breath on that one since our POP hosting provider hasn't been very helpful in the past). Some MTRs showed packet loss and high latency beginning before hitting our direct peers (NTT and GTT). We may not have much control over these type of issues and the users may have to contact their ISP. We may be able to email the specific AS NOC to see if they're able to assist and look into it, though. To conclude, the TC program I made will result in higher performance on our Anycast network and should resolve the performance issues with our NYC servers. With that said, it comes with many other benefits and fits our network well. We also have been seeing some strange routing issues as well that I'm looking into. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask! Thank you for reading.

Hey there everyone. Friendly neighborhood programmer boi here. For those of you who haven't read my latest status update I posted a while ago, please do so: https://gflclan.com/profile/42374-_rocket_/?status=11077&type=status Now that you are caught up, here's the update. Some people might have assumed I just left the community. That is partly my fault since I didn't make an official announcement here until tonight. But I haven't left the community. My situation has gotten worse. The apartment that me and my family live in had a monthly rent increase. It was increased by $100 a month. Yes, you heard that right. An extra $100 every month for a 950 square foot apartment that has terrible internet. Things haven't gotten any better. I am getting stir crazy over here. I'm not able to program anything despite how badly I want to. I don't feel like I'm doing anything with my time, and it's eating away at me. I'm not in the greatest headspace due to all this. So I distanced myself from GFL for a while. I plan on continuing to do so. I would much rather be active here when I'm feeling happy... Or at the very least content with my life situation. Right now I am far from content. I couldn't even describe my situation as remotely comfortable. Frankly I'm stressed out. I'm a little lost. I don't know what to do each day. I don't want you all to feel sorry or upset, but you all have a right to know why I'm so absent. I didn't distance myself from GFL by choice. Honestly I don't think I ever felt so accomplished and so fulfilled with my life like how I was a few weeks ago. I was starting to make video games, a dream I've had since I was a kid. I was meeting new people and making friends. I was learning so much about my programming practices. I felt amazing... No I'm not depressed, don't worry. I'm not incredibly sad, or overly stressed. I can manage. I still have a few close friends I talk to often, and they help me get by. Things will eventually get better. My family and I are trying our best to get out of this damn situation. We currently have a plan... So we have that going for us. I might be able to come back in a month, or two months. Hell it might not be for another 6 months... I'm optimistic, and hopeful. I'm trying my hardest not to lose hope. But man... It can be hard sometimes. Hope all your days are going well.

It's been a long time now since the Star Wars RP server was shut down. Back then, a lot of our servers struggled and I understand the focus on those servers, but GFL has come a long way and it's doing much better now, as most divisions are steady. So, with resources that GFL has currently, I think it'd be worth giving the Star Wars ImperialRP server another opportunity. There's a broad variety of things that can help the server now and I'm sure it can do well with good care. "Don't you think the server will just fail again?" While this possibility should always be kept in mind, there are a few reasons to think it won't fail and why it failed in the past, some of them being: One of the reasons the server failed before was because of the fact the server was practically unable to gain new players and I believe that was due to the location of the server previously. Even when the server had 30+ players on, we did not manage to gain many or if any new players at all and most of these 30 players were friends of existing players or people from GFL. This really crippled the success of the server and eventually led to its downfall. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Learning from past mistakes is a huge reason as to why this server will most likely not fail again. One of the past mistakes was having the server feel more serious and not allowing players to have their own freedom to do what they please. We want to give players the freedom to do more things without getting punished for having some fun with friends and stuff, but still enforce punishments for actions that may ruin everyone else’s experience such as punishing for extreme toxicity and Mass RDM (3+ kills). __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Another past mistake was the fact that there was nothing to do on the server really without events. This is why things for officers to do to keep players engaged was intended to be implemented and an increase of Gamesters from various timezones to keep events going at any time when available. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Keeping the server optimised and playable for the players is a huge reason why this server would thrive over many others. A lot of server owners out there do not care about the performance of their server and essentially their player base, which leads to many being unable to play and their framerates being extremely low. To ensure the server is optimised, we would need to make sure that logs are kept to a minimum and that there are a respectable amount of props on the map and not an insane amount that would kill computers. Another thing that could be taken in to optimise the server even more is ensuring that the map being used is also optimised very well this could be done by placing a limit to the render distance or simply making it so the player does not render what they cannot see. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Another issue was having many battalions but not enough people, which lead to unused and inactive battalions. There has to be a few but not too many. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Suggestions: There should only be necessary battalions, at the start, with at least one extra battalion and then add more as times goes. Principal battalions should be: Naval, Chimaera, SHOCK, Medical, and 501st. The extra battalion should probably be Scouts as a start and then battalion slots open up as these start getting filled. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ In the beginning, rankings could have a limit to them the higher they are. For example: 1 Colonel 1 LTCOL 1 Major 2 Captains 2 Lieutenants (1 1LT and 1 2LT) Below Lieutenant, there could be no limit of Sergeants and Troopers. As time goes on and with more population, Officer+ slots can slowly open up. However, these should not be immediate! For Commander, there should be a test and application process to see if the applicant has what it takes to be a commander. For the other ranks, Commanders can decide if there can be applications or if they want them to go through all ranks process to test their skills. As for ranking up, a rank up cooldown would also be good. For Troopers - 1 day cooldown from PVT to CPL. For Sergeants - 2 day cooldown from SGT to MSGT. From MSGT to SGM - 3 day cooldown. From SGM to 2LT - 1 week cooldown. For Officer+ - whenever slots are open, there should be a minimum of 2 weeks before promoting officers. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Each battalion should have squads. In the beginning, make 1 squad per Captain, which will help keep people entertained, learn new things and do a lot more. These squads can be defense squads, attacks squads, frontline squads, backline squads, vehicles squad, etc. They can depend on what each battalion does. When there's a good population on the server, more squads can be created but the maximum should be 4 squads. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Discord was our main source of communication on the server. Each battalion deserves their own section to update things or chat with only their battalion. The Discord was always a bit outdated and incomplete, so the Discord should be kept updated, organised, and clean.

Alright Hi boys been a minute, but a certain discussion forced me on here to suggest this... Since GFL I was able to join a good semi-pro team for gaming. This team includes streamers, competitive players, and more. Thus, leading them to gain multiple sponsorships', community support, and even their own branding line made by Soardawg. This led me thinking as to why GFL has not tried this before? From my understand we did have social media and tried comp teams out, but have we really done it in a sufficient way? GFL needs to start recruiting streamers, who will be able to promote GFL all together, while just having fun playing. This can bring in a fan base who not only likes the streamer they are watching, but it will also bring in more people. This is what all big gaming communities do if you just do the research. For example, SOAR, Obey, Faze, and literally every gaming community out there. Secondly, GFL needs to create competitive teams who will literally compete in tournaments. There should be tryouts with certain requirements within the community for members and everyone else to be able to have the opportunity to join the team. This should not be a team consisted of admins, managers, and more because you need the best players to be able to win and bring in money. Sorry, but that is business. Along with that, we can all agree the competitive scene is bigger than ever. Every single sport is practically cancelled, but you know what sport isnt? Esports. GFL needs to hop on that immediately. Finally, you cannot have any of this without proper social media. Right now Twitter is by far the best place to go for gaming community to gain popularity. It is also the place where you can find sponsorship's and more. From my understanding, GFL did have social medias but lets be honest here. Everyone here most likely plays games on a religous levels and probably does not like to be on social media too much (this is just an assumption). You need people who need to know how to bring in people, advertise, and more. This role should also be run by more one person, who are TRUSTED within the community. Thank you for coming to my TedTalk. This is just a rant and a thought that will bring GFL the next level. Its time to grow and grow big. This could potentially bring in a lot of revenue, members, and success within the community.

Hey everyone, I just wanted to announce some changes to our CS:S Division. This is part one and part two will be released in the near future. Unfortunately, I won't have time to manage the 24/7 Dust2 server because I'm busy with many other things within GFL at the moment and the server definitely deserves better than an inactive manager such as myself. Therefore, the following changes will be implemented: @Runda will be moving to primarily manage our 24/7 Dust2 server. @Dreae will be primarily managing our Surf RPG DM server. Dreae will be doing technical work within the CS:S division as a whole. He plans to make some pretty awesome plugins such as Discord Integration along with fixing any technical issues existing on the servers at the moment. These are things that if work well with the CS:S division, they could spread to other divisions as well! Runda will still have access to Surf RPG DM and implement some changes from time to time when need to be (this is okay with Dreae). However, Runda will primarily focus on 24/7 Dust2. Thanks!

Its time for me to post another controversial thread because quarantine has made me bored out of my mind. If you want, skip to the second issue of stacked punishments cause the first issue is really just me ranting LOL I'd like to talk about two issues for now: First and kinda unimportant issue: Randoms on the forums _________________________ I don't see why morons in the GFL community who have nothing to do with ze constantly feel the need to provide nonstop commentary on SERVER/SERVER CULTURE issues in this forum. I get the obvious irony here seeing as I hardly play ze, but hey at least I've played before :^). yes i also know its a forum where anyone in gfl can contribute but like shut up no one cares about what a forum moderator or about what a gmod server admin thinks about ze issues this is literally you @motorsteak __________________________________________ SECOND AND ACTUAL IMPORTANT ISSUE Stacked punishments I seriously don't understand stacked punishments, and I think they are a stupid form of dealing with rulebreaking in a server like GFL. Stacked punishments should only really be in place if there was a huge lack of server admins. The obvious solution to this issue would be to implement stacked mutes, since long punishments may be necessary if the server cannot be kept under watch at all times. This would prevent a dedicated troll from just coming on at 3 am when no admin is on to screw around. In a server like GFL, which is THE biggest CS;GO server, is kept on near 24/7 watch, and has a report system, there certainly is no need for stacked punishments. Under the system of stacked punishments, here's what admins can do: 1. Gag permanently for small offenses like hitting a bind 2. Mute someone for a week for having a bad microphone one time (perhaps mouth too close to mic, etc) 3. Be assholes to players and bait them into getting long mutes/gags if they retaliate like normal humans would (going back to the double standard I mentioned in an earlier post) 4. Something that JUST happened btw: permanently ban a player for throwing pistols at item chasers and causing 1 second delays in a person getting an item. Seriously? Why did we stop evaluating offences in context? A person spamming the n word and boosting and blasting earrape on microphone can be banned/punished for less time than a person who hit a silly copypasta bind on his keyboard. You guys are turning into the fucking US justice system with stacked punishments. There's also a huge issue with a lack of warnings. I literally have not seen an admin warn another player or communicate discontent since 2018. Hey guys, remember communicating? Even under this system, don't you think a person would stop rulebreaking if you just remind them that they will be muted/gagged/banned/ebanned for a long time? Nah, instead lets just mute/gag/ban/eban instantly, and then be assholes when people complain about it. I feel like we've lost the spirit of ze. Trolls who are doing harmless things to keep the game fun are being treated like malicious e-terrorists who hold the server hostage. This may be due to an admin team full of silent randoms who are gonna leave in a year anyways, or other factors. Regardless, I don't think the spirit of ze is keeping the server permanently silenced with no fun/spice whatsoever. An admin team that just two years ago embraced a spirit of casual trolling and fun is now intent on stamping out all attempts at having fun. THIS IS NOT TO SAY THAT I THINK ALL TROLLING IS OKAY. People who boost, do huge item trolls like walling everyone off, and people who blast 150 db earrape on the microphone are malicious and should be punished as such. However, there simply isn't a distinction being made anymore. Have you guys forgotten what ze is? Fun, chill, and casual at its core. As a long time player and undeniable troll, I feel sad when I see fellow players and friends be punished like Al Capone at his prime in 2016. A system like this is doing lots of harm to ze's culture of lighthearted tomfoolery. Ignorant, out of touch, and unreasonable admins are the root of this problem. Stop playing ze like its your fucking job, start warning people again. and abolish this dumb system for good. I'd love to see a return of lighthearted fun along with admins who contribute to that fun culture as well. rant over and seriously, please don't put your two cents in the comments if you don't play ze or are named motorsteak

So, I have an idea. I thought of possibly making a little game related to GFL staff members. If it be advisers and directors, or server admins. And your goal is to survive levels while members of the staff roster try to murder you. It will be a basic shooter and platformer, but there will be a lot of different enemies for obvious reasons. I might even make new guns and such. The maps will be auto-generated for each level, and every few levels or so a new enemy from the staff team comes into the game. Each new enemy will be harder of course. And as you move on, I might add ways where you can level up. I might add combo stuff so you can possibly level up faster. The player sprites, will be very basic and kind of joke-like. Just the members avatars more than likely. Of course I can do a lot more and have some different changes. Right now this is just an idea I had. I want you to comment down below if you would like to be apart of this game. I might eventually contact you to ask some questions on how you would like your enemy mechanics to be like. For the time being, this is just the planning stage. Anyways, here's my idea bois. Hope you are all doing well! Update: you can apply here. Please do so if you could. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1d8G9UBDMap4F7wKotggWbdwvd0j2dl7Zvgw81Q3BPEI And here is the official game project:

Why is the PR team a thing? Yes, the jobs within it are VERY essential to the community -- I won't dismiss that. We do need people who will take an active role in resolving conflicts within the community, organizing events, and just handling things related to the community. However, I don't think an entire team is needed for this and it's for a few reasons. I'll acknowledge possible solutions for PR so don't worry, I'm not gonna just dismiss the entire idea just to be a dick. Note: Many of my points are based on the knowledge I obtained from a conversation I had briefly with some PR members and 2 directors in the #general Discord channel. Confusing jurisdictions. Not only do I feel like the addition of PR is confusing (especially since there's no real listing of what community/forum based positions do what and how much responsibility they take on -- I think this should be stated somewhere easily seen/easily accessed) I also think the entire hierarchy of things needs to be reevaluated. For example, if the PR deals with community related matters, why are they able to accept member applications-- something that would fall more under forum moderators? A job that's entire jurisdiction, I believed until recently, was focused on the happenings of the forums. Helping new members around the forum/community shouldn't require an entire team. I'm honestly surprised that there isn't a massive guide to everything GFL related (for starters -- the divisions, what certain staff positions are in charge of, etc) and whatnot. This could be linked to new members by everyone and/or easily accessible on the front page. This allows even the most "not in touch" staff members and other helpful members the ability to be able to answer questions newer members might have on the forums, the shoutbox, ts, and discord. It'd be a nuisance to make but you don't need to go that in depth, most people just need a small rundown of things. Roles should be merged to avoid thinning out potential candidates. This one's kinda self explanatory. I feel like some of these roles/jobs people are applying for in the PR may not have as much demand as others do. Thinning out these singular responsibilities into many smaller jobs can make taking on more look not just more daunting but also as not THAT big of a deal -- a "for fun" role that people will more than likely just take on for a pretty color. Honestly, I've seen a lot of people like this on the forums who take on responsibilities just to grasp onto power and control, to appear and feel more important, and/or look "pretty". If it's tagged along as many responsibilities into one position, it's still a little daunting but rightfully so. This responsibility shouldn't be seen at face value. This role should be condensed into one role that although fun, still has responsibilities attached that people should fulfill in order to maintain it. The community as a whole should be allowed input on the community and its potential representatives (even if they hold no responsibilities). Now listen, I understand this one can be a little controversial because of how things have always been but in the years I've been on GFL, I've seen many players who stay players and don't want to rise up past it because they don't want the responsibility or have time conflicts. Players, in the community, see staff within our community from a different angle than other staff members. These players should be allowed to +/- applications of potential representatives of the community (as long as their opinions are backed up by more than bias). Not only that, but people outside of this team will help lessen possible nepotism (I kinda see a lot of people who know each other already on the team and giving their input). The community doesn't need their own versions of peacekeepers and diplomats. The community doesn't need their own peacekeepers and diplomats. I get it, people want to help resolve conflict and I respect it. However, I feel like a conflict resolution team won't be taken as seriously as higher up staff members because they're peers and the merit that comes from diplomats is earned not something that can give given to them from a title. I feel like there's no real "fix all" when it comes to conflict resolution, people just need to be encouraged to take it into private and handle it through the chain of command depending on its severity. I understand this might be more of a "people can ask for help" type of thing but I think some things are better left not meddled with even when someone wants it to be. It can breed resentment very very easily in other members. Not only that but it's VERY hard to look at a conflict with enough of a neutral/no bias stance to really hear both sides and approach it with a resolution that'll work for both sides rather than work for one, yourself, or even to maintain public image. tear me apart
