Let's start this off with a bang; the new position of GFL. You might have seen this role being introduced by Benroy, but to clear up any questions you might have and to thoroughly understand what the Technical Administrator does, we will be discussing what exactly the Technical Administrator does. However, let’s first congratulate our new TAs: Roy, Nick, and Dreae.
In a nutshell, the Technical Administrator directly works on the majority of GFL’s servers to edit, fix, or install certain aspects of the server in order to benefit the server. They must come up with solutions that can handle future implementations and maintain current implementations and/or solutions. If there is an issue, the Technical Administrator will step in and find a solution to fix that problem. The Technical Administrator leads the Development team and is an advisor to each other in order to help fix or edit a server if necessary. They are tasked with this objective, and because of this, they are trusted with a lot of power and responsibility. Since they have access to almost all of GFL’s servers, they have the ability to either literally make or break GFL and its servers. The TAs have been hand-selected because they are usually trusted members of the community that already have important roles within GFL (e.g. director) or were in such roles in the past.
The role of Technical Administrator is certainly a bit confusing. They work on several things behind the scenes without everyone knowing (mainly because it’s too complex for them to understand it). They detect errors within the servers and work hard to fix it. Anything they do is done with haste and efficiency in order to benefit the community. Again, welcome our new TAs to GFL. Remember - they might be working on your favorite server right now!
Trusted Reworked - Community Advisors:
The people with the Trusted role are there to advise the higher-ups with their own perspective and knowledge to better the community. However, due to inactivity and a lack of proper opinions, it was reformed and renamed "Community Advisors” with a more serious and effective outlook on the role itself.
Traditionally, the Trusted role was given to the people who were a long-term members. Said people were all most likely ex-team members/leaders (Though you can still be a Trusted while active, it was just highly unpopular). These members/leaders would professionally renounce their current position within GFL and be given the Trusted role by a Director who has seen this person's potential for the position. The role was removed from the community due to the fact that, in the eyes the masses, the role was “ineffective”, and was basically a retirement home for ex-team members and leaders that were doing nothing for the future of GFL.
People with the new Community Advisor role have no permissions, but are solely just advisors. Members with this particular role do not necessarily make decisions, but are there to help Directors, Division Leaders, and Server Managers make decisions that will be best for the community. The higher-ups are the ones who make the final decisions, a veto system that will make our changing mechanics work better without the constant removing/adding of roles.
Promotions of The Month:
In late March, Benroy, one of the Directors for GFL, announced that 4 people will be promoted! Out of the 4, 2 people by the name of WigglesWorth and Liloz, were promoted to the role of Director because of their leadership skills and their experience working with GFL. After that, much needed CS:GO Division Leaders were now in action! Our 2 new Division Leaders for CS:GO are Leks and Cobra! They were given the DL role because of their experience with server management and determined attitudes. And added late in the month, A new Team Leader for Moderation was announced with Motorsteak taking over with Liloz01's promotion, and Fafy received Division Leader for our GMOD division.
GFL is ever changing, with people joining and people leaving daily. But these promotions will surely do GFL good! Congratulations to these staff members!
Motorsteak has released a disclaimer stating “if you have any issues with a moderator, I encourage you to please fill a staff feedback/abuse report.” Glad to see the initiative already!
Subdivisions are starting to see a resurgence in population; this may lead to needing staff, public events, and much more! Check out our forums for each for more information!

This month starts out strong with major changes in our PR team. With WigglesWorth taking the lead after Private Pull stepped down, PR has started to see changes in a total reconstruction of the team, including the Media Team. Some of these changes include Member Acceptors now becoming a Human Resources department, as we have a bot to accept the majority of member applications. There is much more to come, and here's to the rework going smoothly and becoming a beneficial team once again.
Minecraft is looking for a new server manager to give the classic game and its following a renewal of life! Our skyblock and survival servers were left empty with last manager resigning to focus on IRL issues. If you're member+ with knowledge of bungeecord and how to manage a minecraft server, send a message to Benroy to discuss your interest in the server!
Many servers have seen a revival as it is this month too. Kite has upgraded and remade our left 4 dead 2 server, hosting multiple events and adding many new custom maps and add ons. Another server brought back is the infamous CSGO Jailbreak, headed by our very own Leks. Both of which have seen a spike in activity since reopening. Let's hope to see them continue to grow.
Spotlight: GMod Purge Revival
Purge is a gamemode on Garry’s Mod that is influenced by the film franchise “The Purge”, where both the gamemode and the movie is set in a dystopian future in which every year, for one day, all crime is legal. All high-class government figures are exempt from the Purge and are thus spared from murder, theft, etc.. However, the civilians must either fend for themselves or attack - or else.
Purge now has some new features developed from pre-existing methods while also sprucing them up a bit to make sure Purge is running smoothly. These features include a completely revamped map made by Rick, a mix of new and old methods of making money, customizable player accessories, a simplified MOTD, and even more.
Flyingjoe32 is the leader of the new Purge server, and while he is very optimistic for the future and for GFL as a whole, he says he’s gotta start off by focusing on the now rather than the future. The server first should start running properly and smoothly before branching out any further. With this in mind, we’ve also got some other news about Purge: staff applications!
Staff applications are now open for the Purge GFL Server. Obviously, Purge is now kicking once more, and for it to be run properly, we’re gonna need some competent, obedient, and motivated moderators. Staff in general is very important, as it’s basically the support of a community. Playerbase is important, but without anyone to control the masses and to keep everything under control, that server is already done for. Check out the Staff Applications for Purge now to apply!
While Purge currently isn’t too invested in the future, the leader has high hopes that he can first start Purge up properly and smoothly and set the foundation for the future Purge. Come on in and have some fun!

Today, we’ll be addressing a major change within the internals of GFL: the merge of all internal teams into one.
Within internal, there has always been a set of teams that focus on specific aspects of GFL. For example, there’s the Media Team, the Public Relations team, the Event Management team, and even the Moderation team. All of these teams specialize in a certain part of the team’s perpetual objectives. However, there has been a strange lack of communication between all of the teams, and so to unite the teams and allow better communication, the GFL upper management has decided to merge all of the teams into one.
The GFL Team Leaders and Directors made this decision with the hopes of increasing communications between teams and allowing easier methods of communication between teams. Before, the teams had separate discords, but there were no discord links present or pinned. Now, all the teams are compiled into one discord, and they are able to request something from one team and something else from another at will with extreme convenience.
Since this big change within GFL’s internals has just occured, there are bound to be many changes within the teams in order to fit the upper management’s directives and objectives. These might include adding other teams, creating new teams, or creating a set of rules to manage all teams at once now that they’re all together.
Hopefully the merge will allow the ease of access and communications that all of the internal teams have wanted for so long become a reality.
We’re happy to announce that we are starting bi-weekly karaoke sessions on the GFL Main Discord.
Karaoke is a great way to show off your true singing voice, and even help you practice for something big. By singing in front of an audience, you benefit from it as you might overcome the fear of singing in front of an audience. In Discord, you can especially take people’s constructive criticism to heart and ignore all of the… other criticisms.
Karaoke is also extremely fun. Singing is a great talent that anyone can master, and usually it comes from the soul. Singing in general ranges from genre to genre, but everyone agrees that singing is enjoyable and charming in many instances.
So come on down to the bi-weekly karaoke sessions, hosted in the GFL Main discord! Come listen to some aspiring artists and singers, or become one of the main attractions yourself!

Left 4 Dead Division
Attention all zombie hunters, our very own Left 4 Dead division is getting a makeover! Thanks to community member Kite9867, who now manages the sequel games’ GFL servers, we are starting to see a revitalization of this particular subdivision in many new forms. Firstly, we now have more than 4 player slots, meaning more people to survive the apocalypse with. Secondly, a various amount of new, custom campaigns to ensure the players never grow bored. When asked about advancements in the division, Kite9867 has hinted at a small versus side project that comes with many new (currently undisclosed) gameplay bonuses. Be sure to check it out and don't forget a buddy.
The Rises and Falls of the Month
This month has been a rollercoaster of roles. Just as quickly as council was reestablished, it was again shut down for various reasons. In the wake, however, we had received a new director! Join me to congratulate Benroy on his promotion this month, as he gets ready to help make GFL the shining community once again, along the side of current directors: Xy, Connor (also known as Snoopy), X2D, and Rick Grimes. Along prominent promotions this month, Liloz01 has become the leader of moderation, managing the moderators on all official discords, our forums, and our teamspeak server. Another major promotion is our new PR team leader, Private Pull (aka Major Push), who has began the revamp of our teams to make them more efficient. I'd like to add a congratulations to all of our minor promotions this month as well. Whether you became a server admin, a member of a team, or somewhere in between the highs and lows, you have earned that spot and let me be the first to say well done.
Member Spotlight: Finnick
Finnick has been a long-time member here at GFL, and some of the community has become to know him well. He is most active on discord, and likes to post his current progress and finished art projects in the #art channel of GFL’s main discord (link: https://discord.gg/48yWqhF). Finnick is most known for his furry projects, and he takes commissions at affordable prices.
Finnick also has his own art thread, with his own Deviantart page on the same thread as well. On this thread, he likes to post the majority of his work for people who are unable to reach him on Discord. He’s been posting since 2016, but if you ask him, he’s most fond of the works he’s done in 2018!
Following this short article will be some of Finnick’s best works, picked by the artist himself. If you’d like to show him support, then join our discord and show him some love! You’re also welcome to commissioning a project yourself.
One last thing - it’s GFL’s birthday!
Or it was, at least. January 24th of 2019 marks GFL’s eighth birthday. We as a community and our staff members have come far in making sure that our players have a fun time that makes them want to come back for more. Over the past eight years, many opportunities have been taken by our founder, Roy, in order to allow flexibility in terms of what to play in GFL. We’ve racked up several servers in several games with several gametypes, and each of them has a good community behind them.
Once again, we are taking submissions on what to do for next month's newsletter. Feel free to reach out to the Media Team on our discord, or on our forums subsection.
If you missed a lot of things going on in the community, then good news! This newsletter will get you caught up with the things that went through this December.
Two people returned to Director positions:
Xy - According to the announcements, he returned to the position to assist with the Director team, now that he has free time.
Snoopy - He returned as Director to help and work with them to get GFL back in its positive 2015 position.
New CS:GO Division Leader We’ve got a new face in the GFL higher-ups—his name is VirusKing. He originally came back to help with our Rust server—although it is only vanilla, it required a little maintenance and VirusKing had plenty of time to resolve this. He expressed interest in our 1v1 server and, after giving him access, he fixed up the server quickly. The server is doing quite well now, leading to a new UK-hosted 1v1 server being opened.

New Team Leaders
Earlier in December, Joel and Queue were promoted to Team Leaders.
- Queue currently leads TS3 moderators.
- Joel assists with all Team Leaders.
Events About Overwatch and event information
GFL is often known for many of its Garry’s Mod, CS:GO, and CS:S servers, but have you heard of the Overwatch division?
Overwatch is a game centered on a set team of fighters with a range of special abilities, different fighting styles, and overall different weaponry and playing schemes with many opportunities for anyone to play as. Officially, Overwatch is generally recognized as a team-based multiplayer FPS with several characters with their own unique personalities and backgrounds. The game takes inspiration from Team Fortress 2 (although Overwatch was produced by Blizzard and TF2 was produced by Valve). Overwatch rose to fame when it revitalized the team-based multiplayer FPS genre, but in a brand new layout; new characters, new techniques, everything.
The Overwatch Division is centered on GFL’s presence within Overwatch, and GFL itself has many plans for its Overwatch server. Many events have either been scheduled or brought up numerous times that the masters themselves have taken a look at the idea. As of 12/14/18, the server is even rumored to have a 3v3 competition with amazing prizes fitted for the winners, even involving other communities to join in and partake in the fun!
Overall, the Overwatch division is small yet thriving, having its own little community and receiving positive feedback from its community.
This article will be posted in any new changelogs and changes that you’ve missed from the server managers.
Changelogs, planned by January 2019.
- Backend changes to make future updates possible
- Secondary round type for Site 13 (Main thing)
- SCP-610 revamp
- SCP-096 animations and buff (ability to break through doors?)
- SCP-334 model, current one looks like fucking shit
- SCP-079 UI revamp and additional SCP-079. (Possible) Site 13 support for SCP-079.
- Various items for the Site 13 round type that will also make their way in to regular gameplay on other maps.
- Various MTF Squads for the Site 13 round type, some of which will make their way into regular gameplay on other maps
The recently revived Prop Hunt is doing great and is getting up there with TTT activity. We are constantly improving and adding different ideas based off of what the community wants and is a great place to relax.
Hide and Seek
Changes were made in December, showing recently around Christmas week:
The return of the long-loved, long-awaited xmas_downtown.
Custom textured Christmas hats (red and green) to go with the season, along with matching candy-cane jump packs and other festive amendments
Two custom, completely originally drawn masks.
Two custom made, original festive trails. Perfect for showing off the colorful chaos of Christmas in-game.
The (now passed) Christmas event, handing out one gift on the daily.
Notable non-holiday additions:
Mysterious 'challenge trails'
A custom, completely new map-vote made by Fafy
The server will be opened tomorrow by Jan. 1st, so don’t miss it! Future events will be coming after the launch, such as raids to fight bosses.
CS:GO Divisional Updates
The division itself is going pretty well. US and UK Surf Timer and 1v1 Arena are starting to succeed with the slots getting filled up, and there is a new Discord launched for CS:GO, which originally was for 1v1 Arena.
JailBreak is under WIP and VirusKing is currently leading the project. The server is next to be released.
In 2019, servers like Bunny Hop will be worked on/launched after Jailbreak is released.
GMod Divisional Updates More about this can be found here.
A new server was released, managed by GlorifiedPig, called “Don’t Blink” and is located in Europe. The IP Address is 184.108.40.206:27019
- The League of Legends division is up and we have weekly in-house events. We are looking for some dedicated members to help run the events more consistently.
- We are in need of more writers! If you're interested, click here.
This month, it seems that we’ve got a lot to look forward to. After speaking with Roy, it seems that there will be three CS:GO servers up to begin with. The three servers coming back to GFL are: Surf Timer, Jailbreak, and 1v1 Arena. Roy and iTaco will be managing the Surf Timer server, but a manager for Jailbreak or Arena is yet to be announced, but is currently being considered and presumably announced as the servers develop.
One of our community’s forgotten game servers, Rust, has received a new breath of life in the form of a new manager with a familiar name to our older members: VirusKing. Virus is one of three people who run a successful large Rust server as a hobby, and has agreed to come back to GFL to assist our server reach new heights! With his ideas and management, we can be sure to put Rust back on the GFL map, and in our hearts once again.
This month has seen many promotions for many of the divisions here at GFL. One of which is TheJitFace, as the newest Server Manager for Pirates, Vikings & Knights II. With a new manager and a possible switch from our US NFO server to our EU/UK servers, the simple server may once again become one of the more popular servers in the sourcemod game. We’ll see, Jit!
Also affected this month is our home, the forums. With Steam integration updating, linking accounts has never been smoother. However, along with the update we lost the ability to integrate discord accounts at this time. As part of the updating, the community Shoutbox also got a tune up, updating to fix emote bugs. Another large change was the banner being replaced with an official GFL image, and profile cover photo’s opacity getting increased to allow visibility.
Have any questions, cool bits of information, trivia, or requests for next month’s newsletter? Contact the Newsletter team! We would love to incorporate interaction between the reader and the content. Those willing to participate should contact WigglesWorth (Forums: WigglesWorth, Discord: WigglesWorth#9434) before the 24th of the month so we may work on adding it to the Newsletter!

CWRP changed to Imperial RP
This month in GFL, we had witnessed the release of a new division within the community. Classic survival-builder game ‘Terraria’ is now home to a GFL server, lead by new Server Manager Elliot. With it being freshly set up by this SM alone, it had spawned overnight thanks to Benroy and Xy as well. The server is set to be a building one, with pvp included. Here’s hoping to seeing many old and new faces alike come and checking out GFL Terraria!
In other news, our newest GMod server, CWRP, has turned to the dark side with an eventful switch to Imperial RP. There are 11 new battalions from Stormtrooper to Sith to be a part of, along with new character models, new jobs to perform, and new tryouts for these battalions. Take part in a variety of tasks such as Attack/Defense missions, Assassinations, and Invasions! The server is currently locked from the public but expects to be ready within the month! Will you succumb to the dark side?
On the Social side of GFL, there’s been a major change to some roles/positions. The newly-reinstated council was disbanded and rebranded as Team Leaders, each one in charge of a certain aspect instead of a general field. Benroy as TL of Moderators, Pyros as TL of Event Management, and Unknown leading Public Relations. All current moderators that made the cut now have perms across our discord, our ts3 server, and our forums, PR spreads the word about GFL while maintaining a happy relationship between members and community, and Event Managers can plan events for the divisions or even discord events! The remaining council members Crusty and FlyingJoe were dispurst to the ARMA project (Crusty) and co-leader of Media Team (FlyingJoe) in the meantime. Here’s to looking up, GFL!
