I'm located in New York and I tried connecting through the console but it times out.

Are you more towards the west side of New York? I feel 5ms ping is too good (even with fiber) from New York to Chicago.

As for the issue itself, do you have CS:S or GMod? If so, can you try connecting to our CS:S BHop server (72.5.195.96:27015) or GMod TTT #1 server (216.52.143.162:27015)?

If you aren't able to connect to them and it times out, I would suggest reading this post for further troubleshooting steps:

    Thanks.

  2. Hello everyone,

I just wanted to let everyone know we've preordered a new machine (GS10) under our Anycast network. Since we'll be cutting on machines with other hosting providers (GS04 and GS06), we are moving all of the game servers from those machines to our two current machines with Nexril. This will result in the machines possibly becoming overloaded. Therefore, I've put in the order for a new machine to load-balance the three machines along with leave some room for further expansions.

Here are the specs of the new machine:

    • Intel i7-7700K @ 4.2 GHz.
    • 64 GBs of DDR4 RAM.
    • 500 GBs SSD.
    • 15 TBs bandwidth.
    • $120.00/m.
    • Dallas, TX, US.
    • Status - Inactive (still being built).

It should be delivered within two - three weeks.

    Thanks.

Can you look at my membership application

This isn't the correct thread to use to request the status of a Member Application. In fact, there is no thread to check the status. You could reply to your Member Application directly, though.

I will go ahead and ping the team responsible for the Member Applications in our internal Discord server since it seems like they haven't been looked at recently.

    Also, congratulations @Zero!

    Thanks.

    Tracing route to c-216-52-148-47.managed-ded.premium-chicago.nfoservers.com [216.52.148.47]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

      1    <1 ms    <1 ms    <1 ms  Fios_Quantum_Gateway.fios-router.home [192.168.1.1]
      2    15 ms     5 ms     5 ms  c-216-52-148-47.managed-ded.premium-chicago.nfoservers.com [216.52.148.47]

    Trace complete.

No I'm not using a VPN.

What an interesting route you have there. Are you located in Chicago? Even if so, I don't think you would route directly from your router to Internap's/NFO's network, lol. I guess FIOS is doing some funky routing here. However, it does appear to reply in the end.

I just want to confirm, have you tried connecting directly through the in-game console? You can read this thread to see how to do that along with some possible causes to this:

    Thanks!

  5. Hi everyone,

I've noticed an influx of threads recently regarding not being able to connect to one of our game servers. Most of these reports come in for CS:GO Zombie Escape. I just wanted to provide some generic troubleshooting steps and possible causes to this.

    Thread Examples

Here are some of the threads I've seen in regards to this issue so you know what I'm talking about:

All of these threads did indeed apply to our CS:GO Zombie Escape server.

    Troubleshooting

Here are the main troubleshooting steps I would recommend.

    Try Connecting Through The Console

If you haven't already, please try connecting to the server through the in-game console directly. For Source Engine games, you may open the console and type the following to connect to a server directly:

    connect <IPv4 Address>:<port>

You'll want to replace <IPv4 Address> with the game server's IPv4 address or a host name that resolves to an IPv4 address. You'll also want to replace <port> with the server's UDP port (if the server's UDP port is 27015 and running on the Source Engine, that is normally the default port and you won't have to specify it). Here's an example for connecting to our CS:GO Zombie Escape server:

    connect 216.52.148.47:27015

    Reboot Your Modem/Router

If you haven't already, please try rebooting your modem/router to see if that fixes the issue.

    Perform A Trace Route

If attempting to connect to the server through the console doesn't work and it times out, the next step is to perform a trace route to the server. Please receive the IPv4 address of the game server you are having issues connecting to (or a host name resolving to the IPv4 address) and attempt a trace route.

For Windows, you can type this in Command Prompt:

    tracert <IPv4 Address>

In Linux, ensure you've installed a package that includes the trace route command and perform the following:

    traceroute <IPv4 Address>

For example, if you want to perform a trace route on Windows to the CS:GO Zombie Escape server, you'll want to enter this in Command Prompt:

    tracert 216.52.148.47

Afterwards, you may make a thread, paste the results, and tag me. Or you may send a PM to me if you don't feel comfortable sharing the results of the trace route. If the trace route times out towards the end, there is a high chance our hosting provider is blocking your IP through the firewall. In this case, I will need to confirm with our hosting provider or on our end and receive a reason for this. Most of the time, this is due to a compromised device and our hosting provider will provide the following steps for you to perform before unblocking your IP:

    Quote

    * Update the firmware on the router and/or modem
    * Change the credentials to log into the router and/or modem
    * If possible, disable WAN-side administration of the router and/or modem
    * Scan the PC and home network for malicious software and viruses
    * Update the firmware and change the passwords on other internet-connected devices -- particularly video surveillance devices

If the trace route completes without the final destination timing out (therefore most likely confirming our hosting provider didn't block your IP), it is something more than likely on your side. I have done some troubleshooting with a user who has experienced this issue and provided everything I've done on their computer here through a screen-share:

If you don't know how to perform these steps, I will make a guide for you if requested (it may take me some time to create the guide). I may also be able to do a screen share with you as well, but I will note I am very busy normally and it may take a lot of time to do so.

    Tools

@alpha_steven made a really nice set of tools that performs a trace route, ping, and a couple other things to CS:GO ZE's server along with our FastDL server for troubleshooting. You may find the download below and check the logs/ folder for the results:

    gfl_conn_test_suite.zip

    Thank you, @alpha_steven!

I hope this helps and please create a thread if you're experiencing issues connecting to the server. When I have the time, I will look over it and see what I can find. Please provide the results of the above troubleshooting steps as well.

WARNING - If you're unable to connect to our CS:GO ZE server, please send a report to @Vauff or @Snowy with your trace route results along with your IP address.

NOTE - I made an in-depth tutorial regarding trace routes and MTRs. Feel free to check it out:

    Thanks.

  6. @Vrain Hm, one dropped packet isn't much and it didn't show any packet loss on the destination. So I don't think it has anything to do with the routing itself unless if one of the hops are dropping packets due to what I explain below.

What are your download and upload speeds? You can use this speed test if you'd like:

    http://dslreports.com/speedtest

I'm curious if your router is dropping UDP packets for a period of time when it exceeds too many packets per second or if you're consuming all your download/upload. I'm also wondering if you're being rate limited somehow.

CS:GO Zombie Escape uses A LOT more bandwidth than something like CS:GO Surf Timer. Does the packet loss literally happen every minute or so? With that said, do you notice it not happening at lower player counts or when less things are going on (i.e. less bandwidth)?

I would also suggest running net_graph 4 when this happens so you can see the 'in' and 'out' values which represents how much bandwidth you're sending and receiving from the server.

Do you have CS:S or GMod by any chance and could test playing on CS:S BHop, CS:S Surf RPG DM, or GMod TTT #1?

    Thanks!

  7. Hi @pHase5694,

Can you try performing a trace route to the server's IPv4 address? You can do this in Windows by executing the following command in Command Prompt:

    tracert 216.52.148.47

Please provide the results afterwards. If you'd like, you may also PM them to me.

With that said, are you using a VPN to connect to the website? If not, I will use the IPv4 address you signed in with and do a trace route from the server to your IPv4 address to see what it looks like from the server's end.

    Thank you.

  8. CS:GO Surf Timer is running under a different network than CS:GO ZE. Therefore, they aren't really comparable. You may be able to try CS:S Surf Timer or CS:S Bunny Hop if you have CS:S (these servers run on NFO just like CS:GO ZE). If you experience packet loss on them, this might indicate a routing issue from you to NFO's Chicago location.

Can you perform an MTR to the CS:GO Zombie Escape IPv4 address (216.52.148.47).

For Windows, you may download WinMTR to achieve this. Please allow the MTR to send at least 200 packets. Afterwards, stop the MTR and paste the results here or you may PM me.

For Linux, you may install the MTR package (depending on the Linux distro) and the command through the terminal:

    mtr 216.52.148.47

    Thanks.

Obviously GFL currently pays for all the costs, how much do you plan to charge GFL for that service afterwards?

I'm assuming that because it was GFL funds which also started this venture for you, that we'll also be paying lower then *the average Joe* for these services.

This hasn't been determined yet. Once I have that information, I will provide that to everyone. And yes, I expect the price to be cheaper for GFL specifically due to that.

    Thanks!

  10. Hi all,

I just wanted to provide a short-ish update in regards to my new company in the making, Scorch Host along with the Anycast network GFL is currently using.

I initially started developing the Anycast network GFL currently uses with @Dreae to use for GFL solely. However, since we've decided on making the new hosting company, plans have changed. Currently, the network is still being maintained by GFL, @Dreae, and I. The network consists of 12 PoP servers around the world.

Once the company is officially started, we will be transferring everything to Scorch Host. GFL will be paying Scorch Host for the Remote (D)DoS Protection service we plan to provide. @Dreae is currently working on a portal for clients to use where they can setup NAT rules for the IPs they purchase from us or bring to us via the Remote (D)DoS Protection service. Once this goes into effect, I would assume the current Directors and @Xy_ will be given access to this portal for GFL's account so they can control where traffic flows to per IP. We plan to add full TCP support as well and new features to Compressor which is the packet inspecting software running on our PoP servers.

In regards to the network itself, I've been in contact with a hosting provider who will most likely be hosting our PoP servers in the future along with our dedicated servers and VPSs. Since the company is new, we won't be able to purchase their high-end (D)DoS protection packages. However, we'll still be able to offer 100+ gbps (D)DoS protection spread across the Anycast network. As the company grows, we will be performing major upgrades to our infrastructure (e.g. the PoP servers and hardware) along with the (D)DoS mitigation services this hosting company offers. Eventually, I believe we'll be able to make a network that can handle over 1 terabit (D)DoS attacks. At least that's the plan. This will be very healthy to GFL and our other clients.

As for the company itself, I made a status update with more information:

    https://gflclan.com/profile/1-roy/?status=10481&type=status

    Feel free to read!

When we go with this hosting provider, we'll be using different locations for our PoP servers. This won't change anything for the clients themselves in my opinion and should result in even better routing to our physical machines.

All in all, these future changes will be very exciting to me and will help GFL highly when completed.

    Thanks for reading.

  11. I ended up doing a 45 -  60 minute screen-share with @undis via Teamviewer after work.

    Applications Installed

    • HLSW - A tool to monitor and query game servers for different types of engines/packet types (e.g. in this case, the Source Engine).
    • OpenVPN - A popular VPN tool used to connect to OpenVPN servers.
    • Wireshark - A packet capturing application for Windows.

    What I've Done

    Added The Servers To HLSW

I added the CS:GO ZE and CS:S BHop servers to HLSW and both were timing out as usual.

    Tried Other NFO Servers

I tried adding other NFO servers from multiple locations (Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, New York City, and Frankfurt). Unfortunately, all but one timed out while all them replied back in my HLSW (confirming the servers were indeed online). It appears whatever is blocking CS:GO ZE is also blocking 99% of NFO's servers globally.

    Inspected The Router Settings

I took a look at the router's admin settings (specifically in Advanced and Filter/Firewall settings). I tried altering some UDP/TCP settings that would make the firewall less restrictive. However, no luck. I also tried checking the firewall logs and adding the CS:GO ZE to a white-list for the firewall. Still no luck.

    Disabling Window's Firewall

I disabled Window's firewall to confirm this wasn't the issue. It was highly unlikely, but worth a try.

Routing Traffic Through OpenVPN Test Server

I had an OpenVPN test server setup which is located in New Jersey, US. I setup a test client for the user, installed the config on their system (along with the OpenVPN GUI application), and I connected them to the OpenVPN server. This specific server-side config makes it so the traffic routes through the OpenVPN server. This means his network traffic goes from his home network -> The OpenVPN server -> The destination server. When this was done, CS:GO ZE and CS:S BHop both replied to UDP packets in HLSW after this was completed. This (most likely) indicated that it is indeed their router or ISP blocking UDP connections and not something locally.

    Ran A Wireshark Packet Capture

To further confirm this is indeed the router or ISP blocking the specific traffic, I ran a packet capture in Wireshark for the main interface. There was a small possibility OpenVPN's connection only worked due to it being on a separate TAP network interface (maybe the software on the computer was only filtering traffic on the main network interface and didn't touch the OpenVPN interface).

As far as I'm aware, if traffic was being filtered on the main interface via local software, it'd at least show as being replied to on the main network interface via Wireshark (this would be similar to tcpdump in Linux). This was not the case and further proves it is indeed the router or ISP (the traffic from the CS:GO ZE server is not even hitting the user's computer via Wireshark at all).

I also selected the specific traffic to the CS:GO ZE server and saved it as a packet capture file (.pcap).

    Conclusion

To conclude, the issue was not resolved as I believe it's either the router or ISP blocking these type of connections. I wasn't able to find anything within the router settings that would do this, though.

My next suggestion would be to contact your ISP and provide the packet capture. If possible, have them try to test a similar UDP query on their end to see if their systems are blocking the traffic. If your ISP provided your router, they should also have more experience with its interface and features. Therefore, they'll be able to better assist you if it is indeed the router blocking the UDP connections.

In the meantime, I kept the OpenVPN user setup and you may play CS:GO Zombie Escape and other NFO servers through there. HOWEVER, please disconnect from the OpenVPN when you're done and this will not be a permanent solution since the server currently charges against bandwidth (I might setup another OpenVPN server with a hosting provider that has unlimited bandwidth, but I'd need to ensure it isn't against their TOS or w/e). Since you're in Europe and the server is in New Jersey (closer to Europe), you more than likely won't see that big of a ping difference (as you've already noted to me in Discord). This is because it routes you from Europe -> New Jersey, US -> Chicago, US which is more (linear?) in my opinion and doesn't involve going way off track.

I hope this helps and please let me know how it goes with talking with your ISP!

    Thanks.

  12. I got this back from NFO:

    Quote

The IP address that you gave was automatically blocked by our system because it is a compromised host that was found scanning our IP address space for vulnerable servers.

Before we can unblock this IP address, we'll need some basic tasks to be performed in an attempt to remove common bot infections that may be present. Specifically:

    * Update the firmware on the router and/or modem
    * Change the credentials to log into the router and/or modem
    * If possible, disable WAN-side administration of the router and/or modem
    * Scan the PC and home network for malicious software and viruses
    * Update the firmware and change the passwords on other internet-connected devices -- particularly video surveillance devices

Please let me know once you've performed the steps provided by NFO's support team. I would assume one of the devices on your home network is compromised (e.g. has a virus).

    Thanks!

    @Roy

I have had my antiviruses disabled for a long time without it ever being enabled, It shouldn't have to do with that then I guess.
Also I do have access to my router's administrator panel. What do I do with it?

You'd want to look for firewall settings within your router. With that said, it may be worth calling your ISP if you have a router/modem from them (they should have more experience with the router's interface plus features). With that said, it'd be good to confirm your ISP isn't blocking UDP connections to NFO's IPv4 blocks (unlikely, but still a possibility).

    Thanks!

  14. Hey @Levancio1993,

Can you try performing a trace route to the server's IPv4 address? You can do this in Windows by executing the following command in Command Prompt:

    tracert 216.52.148.47

    Thank you.

  15. Hey @undis,

Here is the conversation I had with NFO's support:

    494-06-18-2019-lPjix0sS.png

There is a small possibility this could be your ISP blocking UDP packets to NFO's IPv4 blocks specifically. Otherwise, chances are, you either have local software (e.g. anti-virus applications) or something on your router is blocking these UDP connections.

I would suggest disabling any anti-virus software you currently have running and try connecting to the servers to see if it works. With that said, do you have access to your router's administrator control panel?

    Thanks.

  16. Hey @undis,

Per our Discord conversation, I had you try another server running on NFO (in this case, our CS:S Bunny Hop server). You weren't able to connect to this server as well.

Therefore, I decided to make a ticket with NFO. I performed a trace route from the CS:GO ZE server to your IPv4 address as well and provided that to NFO.

I just find it strange that you're able to ping the server from your home network still. This makes me believe it may not be NFO blocking you, but perhaps your ISP or something on your computer blocking UDP connections to the server. We'll see what NFO has to say, though.

Once I receive a reply, I will let you know.

    Thanks.

  17. Hi @undis,

    Thank you.

  18. Thank you for making this post and rest in peace, Dream. My condolences to everybody impacted by this tragic event, especially her family and close friends.

I am really glad to see all the posts in this thread with people offering support as well. It makes me really proud to see this community being a family altogether. Thank you everybody!

    Thanks.

  19. My most 'exciting' moment was probably when CS:S Zombie Escape reached #1 in CS:S on GameTracker for the first time on July 4th, 2012. I remember having to go to my mom's friend's house for the Fourth of July that day and I just wanted to be home celebrating this moment with people in GFL at the time. It was still an insane run (a month and a half from a new IP to #1 in CS:S, we didn't drop a rank once during this run).

I guess being 14 at the time was awesome as well. I was still a stupid kid just enjoying watching my servers populate, lol.
