Why do you think you'd be a good fit for the team?  I believe i'd be a good fit for the team, as i am very pro-active with ideas for events involving the discord, which has a considerable lack of what could be weekly or bi-weekly events. A current large scale idea of mine would be a "12 Days Of Christmas" event, where the days leading up to December 25th would have a Christmas related question on each day, earning whoever answered right a certain value of "Baubles", in which the finale could offer a special role in the Discord.
The process, to avoid bias, would collect the first 10 correct answers and using a random value generator, select one from the list to receive the "Baubles" award.
Smaller scale events that have been an interest of mine include clones of Syntax's Karaoke event, as it brought a considerable number of people who i'd never seen active into the voice chat. Additionally, events involving web-based games, or server related "crash" (Mass joining) events to boost population (Can be done in conjunction with server managers), have also been a keen implementation idea to add to the Discords weekly activities.

Do you have any prior experience? Sadly, i have only a minor Discord related experience when it comes to leading events, having only done one or two Skribbl.io and WatchTogether events with around 20 people. Events in games however, were a common occurrence in my time pre-GFL and during so far; leading minor RP events based off of historical battles (private VietnamRP server), leading large groups in squadron style games (War Thunder) and fun mini events on the HnS server with special rounds.

Well, you'll have probably seen or heard of this if you stay in-tune to any and all current events, and albeit being around for a month or so, it's a highly heated topic. 
But, for those that haven't, on the 2nd of October, Jamal Khashoggi - a well known Saudi journalist, was reported missing in Istanbul after attending a Saudi Consulate to obtain marriage papers, and now his bodies been found after he was tortured and beaten by Saudi agents, who've been foiled in a cover up attempt, and been branded as a "Rogue Cell" by the Saudi Prince.

For me, I think this will have major trade repercussions with SA and NATO, possibly ending weapon sales to them, due to Angela Merkle halting all sales to the country after the news was broadcast stating that it was a Saudi plot. The credibility of the men in power of SA are being considered now more than ever, so who knows if this might lead to a trade fragment, or possibly even to SA siding closer to Russia than NATO in the stage of Geo-Politics.
This does come after SA's involvement in Yemen, which has already brought Human Rights and political credibility into question, when they embargoed a vital aid port from supply- receiving scorn from many western powers over its actions
For me, i hope that the nation finally gets its recognition as a Human Rights violator, it's been a long time coming, in both Middle Eastern Issues and the Issues within the Nation itself.
