  1. I think everyone agrees with your endgame.  It's without a doubt a good idea.  It's getting there that's the hard part.  I'm not sure if your join date 2020 is accurate, but if it is, then you missed out on the times when we would always try new servers pretty much every new month although I do admit it was kind of a fun mess to try.  I still like trying to new things, but just pointing out it's a lot of work.

I didn't do a thorough search, but here's an example of where cuts were made to concentrate on bread and butter servers.

You're right: It never hurts to ask.  Maybe if other people are sharing agreement openly it might encourage the opening of specific servers.  Something else that does work is exactly as you said it... pretty much sell your soul and get one of those servers started.  Shaky background and applying for something like Discord Mod or Public Relations Team?  Good luck!  (I wish that weren't true because I do want people to have a chance to prove themselves if they want to try).  Want to start a new No Clip Bullet Bill and Goomba Stomp Server on CS:GO and you're okay with making some of the plugins on your own?  Welcome to Server Manager here's complete access to SourceBans 🙂 I know I'm exaggerating and it's a totally fake example, but I feel like I've seen similar things happen.  I don't think it worked on the first try, but it eventually got there.  If you want to make it happen, then you can certainly try too!

  2. Repurposing a server is a lot of work and odds are the new server might be lucky if it has an average of 3 players at any time on a good day.

It's not to say that it can't and shouldn't be done, but someone would really have to want to do it and have those specific servers.

  3. I just checked in with @Alexis and the rest of the team.  They've decided that for your case it will be okay to make a generous one time special exception to reduce your ban length to two weeks, which should be sometime today or tomorrow.  Thanks!

    edit:

Let me know if there are any issues getting back on after tomorrow.  We've been testing a few programs related to bans.  It's been working out well although some people with a ban history can get snagged by it by accident.  The intention is to reduce the length of your ban so that you are able to get back on by tomorrow, and so if you are one of the few unlucky ones, then it is okay to let me know and I will try work around it.

  4. I like all those mini series like Chernobyl and The Queen's Gambit.  I've been watching The Vampire Diaries, which was surprisingly good for the first few seasons although the later seasons are okay so far (kind of a little bit on repeat seems like).

Aside from Seasons 8 we still love Game of Thrones.  We don't mind re-watching it a few times.  Breaking Bad was very good the first round, but something about rewatching is hard to continue through multiple times.  Walking Dead was okay after a few seasons, but I stopped watching it.  I'm not sure what it was because I enjoyed the show a lot at the beginning, but just kind of grew bored for no apparent reason.

It's going to need at least 60 days.  Just to clarify on something: It's not a 60 day ban.  You earned a permanent ban.  I see in the other thread the team leader says that you can reapply in 60 days, but I am not sure what they are looking for in order to lift your ban.

I couldn't promise you anything, but your best bet would be to show positive behaviour in other parts of the community such as the forums.  Reapplying in 60 days (or less) saying you're a changed person and with nothing to show for it isn't going to be compelling at all.  To give you a little insight on the ban appeal process there are other appeals sitting longer than yours I've actually tried talking to the team about reducing their bans to lengthy bans such as 3-6 months...  it's something I'm still working on, and something I've proposed as a policy (here) although it has not gained enough support to move forward with it yet.

I'm going to lock and close this because the thread will go stale by the time you are eligible for reapplying.  Again: Your best bet is to show positive behaviour elsewhere, and I too have my fingers crossed that a more relaxed policy in comparison to permanent bans can be implemented.  Good luck!

  6. The moderators made a good call on your ban, but I will check with the team to see what they might be willing to do if anything at all.  Let me get back to you on that or allow others to post.  I wont paint a rosy picture on this topic.  It looks bad.

Small note: I see that you have 755 messages in the Main and another 176 in GMOD.  Not bad.  I personally recommend showing some positive activity on the forums.  Even if your ban sticks now you be might able to leverage good activity elsewhere in future appeals, and a ban on Discord doesn't usually ban you in other parts of the community so you can stay connected.

    edit:

I support lifting the ban or reducing the length compared to permanent ban.

  7. Gosh that is a great perk.  I think it's fair to say that I visit the forums very often and even I didn't know about that 😅 I'm going take a stab in the dark and say posting it once or twice and pinning it doesn't work well.  Probably including it in a GFL announcement every once in a while...  feels like it's been a while since we've had one those (didn't we get a new TL recently??)... announce that we're seeking people and here are the possible rewards for participating.  We could probably do just like some other areas lower the criteria for people to get in.  Just because they are GFL streamer in title doesn't necessarily mean we have to reward them if that's the hold up from getting people in; we can add milestones and criteria for that too say for instance X number of videos uploaded and Y number of viewers or subscribers, etc.

Certainly couldn't promise people that going into these roles would guarantee other roles, but seems like some other roles are quite popular and people are trying to get in.  Maybe their activity elsewhere could help boost their odds of getting more desirable roles?  I personally wouldn't mind saying a popular streamer would have a better application applying for something like a Discord or Forum Mod.  It  "looks" like from the perspective an unaware person like myself, that we do it the other way around: that someone practically has to be a TL or moderator elsewhere to get into these roles and they kind of leverage it for their next team application...  before you know it you've got 6-7 people doing every role in the community and "nobody else" is good enough to do it...  even looks like an "in circle" that comes up every once in a while, and so others who feel like they aren't a part of that in are less willing to risk rejection.

  8. Yes, no offense intended.

I do hope that it's not taken as a personal criticism when I say I feel like our recruiting efforts into teams is not very strong and sometimes it can even have the appearance of being exclusive.  When I say appearance I mean just as it looks and not meaning that it's anything intended or caused by a person such as yourself.

When I say get bodies onto the team... I'm thinking we might need to make an actual effort to get people in and to interest them into doing these things.  It looks to me we're a little bit more passive waiting for the "right persons" to apply and join.  I can admit, that it's very possible there are things behind the scenes that I'm not seeing some manipulation or chatting to try and get people involved, but the public stuff is definitely on the very low side.

For a YouTube suggestion centered around content is just focused on our servers. For example (we do need to find content creators I do agree and have a editing team) we can say use our rust server to promote the server. We could make videos like "Funny Rust Moments" and make it into a somewhat comedic video. We could also easily make tutorials for new players for different servers. For example, if a player didn't know how TTT worked you could click a video (have the video linked in the MOTD) of a tutorial explaining and showing how the game-mode works and giving the basics and tips for the new player. My whole idea is centered around using our servers to make videos. We have 100+ ideas we could do with them. Funny moments, tutorials, Easter eggs, CAH with members of GFL, and a lot more.

This person is literally giving us gold.  I wish I could give you 100 likes.

    edit:

If I were a Team Leader I would be getting some bodies on the team and starting on some of these.  It's not a promise that they will be successful, but it sure beats the (current) alternative.  Thank you very much!

  10. I don't feel like this was "messed up", but it was too weird for me to watch again: Annihilation

I've heard of the Centipede and wont watch it, lol.  I see mentions of Saw above and I personally really like it.  The stories aren't perfect, but surprisingly good for a horror/suspense full of gore although the ones with Amanda... I can't remember if it was III or IV...  dumb, and could probably skip those.  I really like the first one and V.

Does anyone considered the later Star Wars like VII and VIII to be messed up?  I mean VII okay it was not great, but there's that flying Leia scene in VIII was a huge wtf a total abomination.  I was sad when the actress died and so I know it was difficult circumstances...  trying not to bend to the way things happened in real life, but c'mon!  Somehow this was the only scene my wife ever saw of Star Wars before I got her to watch the original IV, V, and VI...  she even liked I, II, and III (I like them too tbh), but this VIII one nearly ruined it all for her she almost was unwilling to watch Star Wars with me and I can understand why.

  11. Happy Easter

Not sure if many of you celebrate or not, or if you're still locked up due to the virus.  It's locked up here, but we'll be colouring eggs anyways...  not sure if we'll hide them around the apartment would hate to find a few rotten ones in a couple of months from now lol.  The store had some big golden egg case so I'll be stuffing it with chocolate- hope it'll be a good surprise.

  12. I would like to propose rescaling some of the rules.

I feel like some rules can quickly earn a person a permanent ban and especially if they are caught in the moment.  When I say caught in the moment I feel like people are able to come back too soon while the problem is still fresh, and so the fire is still burning and they are likely to repeat the problem.  Say for instance someone gets a mute for minor spam... odds are they aren't going to learn from their lesson after a 4h mute.  They quickly get a 4h or 12h, which is a tiny cooldown period; then for all practical purposes it's forever...  I feel like it can too quickly escalate to a permanent ban.

I think the problem is that the cooldown period is too short, and so these 4h or 12h punishments are not serving their purpose; the person is unlikely to reform.  I would rather frontload the larger punishments and scale it out.  This way the person has a better chance to improve and a permanent ban doesn't have to be based on a small period or possibly one really bad day.

    CUdnDXC.png

My thoughts on permanent bans are consistent too.  I've made comments here, and even a thread on it before too.  I'm personally okay with banning someone once per year if they are a trouble maker (I mean if it's something illegal or horribly gross, then fine make it permanent without question).

    edit:

It doesn't have to be scaled exactly to the example above.  The bottom line here is that I would like to add at least one more intermediate steps to some of the rules that have a short cooldown period before leading to permanent ban.

    edit:

This didn't get enough support through the Senior Moderator team so it'll be considered a rejected idea for now.

  13. Just for my own reference discord ID: 722179802748157952

I'm very impressed with even 10% of the font size I would still need to scroll a bit.  It's pretty severe spam.  The moderator followed proper procedures and the ban is in alignment with our rules.  In terms of the rules: The ban will stay.  I'll check with the team to see if a possible exception in some form can can be made although I can't promise anything.

edit on 7th April 2021: Just keeping you in the loop I haven't forgotten about this.  If a decision is made I'll update it and move this to completed, but this is still open.  I'm checking with the others to see what they are willing to do if anything.
