  1. tfw when it's true for most GFL roles and you have a real job

It's not too bad, though, and I promise to anyone who can't see applications, that people who can't walk on water still manage to make it through 🙂 I was just meaning to give some friendly suggestions and most certainly a real job might ask you why you think you are a good candidate and a little bit about your experience.  We probably wont ask you about the electric field inside of the depletion region of a n-channel MOSFET (although candidates should be familiar with Poisson's equation and know that the electric field outside of it is zero; also that doping the channel strains it and decreases its length so brushing up on your semiconductor physics will be helpful /s)

  2. Please don't test forum mods 🙂  You get free warning points with it.

Plus it's staring at me and little ducky hat chirp chirp omg it's so cuuutttteee.

I'm very excited to see applications open up!

Below are just my personal opinion.

We might give some feedback on the applications.  It's doesn't mean it's a deal-breaker; targeted feedback also does not mean it's the only thing they are looking at or looking for.  For example: If you have low quality posts and we ask about it does not mean that on the Grapes of Wrath application we're going to immediately +1 it ignoring all else.  (For reference: Grapes of Wrath is a lengthy book)

Another hint I'll say on the last set of applications some people didn't make it through not because of what they said on their application...  it's what they didn't say.  If something happened or you think it can work against you try not to hide it because what happened when we meet up on Discord to discuss applications is another moderator might bring it up on your behalf... problem is you wont be there to defend it (hopefully someone will).  That was the killer for some people last time despite excellent applications.  The approach I recommend when you bring something up is try to put a positive spin on it like a lessons learned or how you are working it to improve/minimize the concern (and note that naming and shaming looks bad if you want to blame another person).  I can't promise that bringing it up on your application will save you, but finding out while discussing it will probably not be good.

Role of the forum moderator is not hard.  How can you stand out?  Throw us a bone.  Tell us why you are going to be a really good candidate.  Measurable things are helpful.  If you say that you are active, but your post count is like 40, then it's going to be really hard (for me) to tell.  As you can tell it's not always deal-breaking and some people can come in and do well, but please make your application an easy yes instead of a coin toss 😉  You might be right about post count does not prove activity, but why should they pick someone with 40 post count who says they are active over the person with 200+ post count who also says they are active?  If being a forum moderator is easy (it is), then person who says they are active with 200+ post count looks like the better deal to me and can probably do just as well...  doesn't mean that the 40 post count is bad, but tell us why you're better.

Ben is already hinting at some needs or goals (schedule/coverage).  I think that's worth mentioning in your application too if you can fulfill it or cover some of it partially.

I personally think one of the questions is a trick question.  My favourite answer and the one I used on my application is you just follow the guidelines.  If it's gray area or it's not in the guidelines, then you can work with the team or a senior/leader to see what they think and partner with them on a decision.

  3. Doing super good.  I hope you're doing well.   Gosh strange to see you without a green name if I'm recalling right.  I think it's been so long since we've spoken I was in in a TS3 chat with you like in 2016 maybe the beginning of 2017.

  4. I love the  memes.

Glad to to see the team being implemented including Member Acceptor!

    edit:

If you're thinking about some of the teams or curious to get behind the scenes of GFL this is a great way to do it- I see some comments about transparency and I think this is kind of a backdoor to get in and to have a more direct say about the community you'll be helping 😉 .  Another thing about member acceptor is you can hook up some of your in-game friends get them on the forums and set them up with membership.

  5. Another sales pitch or approach might not necessarily if it can attract more members into the community, but how much happier it might make current community members.  It might enhance their experience here and make them more willing to tolerate some things they might not like from time to time (it happens) or maybe they'll be want to more involved.  There can be an indirect benefit 🙂 I think it's worth championing for this if you think you would really like it as well as a few other members.  Of course: You would want the enjoyment and benefits to be a long lasting effect and not a one or two time hit.

    edit:

I recommend if you've brought this up to 2-3 friends if they might like the idea try to get them to post on here saying they'd like it and would play the game.  I don't know why, but a lot of people are reluctant to post...  kind of defeats the purpose of the forums.  Encourage them to share their idea or join you.  I think you can do it.  If a few more people post saying they like the idea it might show some promise to the leadership.

  6. I'm going to move this to where other Suggestions are made and added the gmod tag for clarify.  Dang!  I left a link to the old place by accident too 😞 checkbox by default is usually off, but it was there and noticed while it was loading after I clicked.  Whoops!

  7. I like MG.

I know it's a type of mode that often struggles with population.  Any comments about that?  I personally don't think all gamemodes have to be high pop to do well or offer it's value, but curious if you've seen differently elsewhere or if you feel like the culture for a GMOD version would be different.

I totally forgot about five guys. No joke, the best burger I’ve ever had is from there.

People in California love In N Out, but those are just greasy tiny burgers you'd need to eat like 2-3 to feel okay (and an upset tummy later), but Five Guys got it right and they have spicy fries!

  9. Would you be okay with sharing the profile picture with me?  I don't normally try to do things to people's accounts, but as a forum moderator it might allow me to update your profile picture.  Would you like to try?

    edit:

If you're having trouble with uploads here (at all) then maybe try on imgur and post the picture here?  https://imgur.com/

  10. I'm going to move the thread to see if you can get more help.  Does the picture have large dimensions or is it a large file?  I was changing the profile picture around a bit for the holidays and noticed some challenges there.

I'm not really a fan of fancy upscale restaurants, not really my cup of tea. The best place I went out to eat was a locally owned jazz club in Washington D.C. that I sadly can't remember the name of.

The worst restaurant is Burger King. Everything at Burger King is just plain nasty.

Was it on U Street NW?  A  lot of good places down that street if you were ever curious to look it up; also a couple of places near Dupont Circle NW I use to cross Connecticut Ave NW very often.  The NW part matters in DC addresses.

Before I went to the UK I use to rave about Nandos while in Washington, DC.  I still like it a lot, but wouldn't call it my favourite anymore; felt less interested about it in the UK when it's pretty much all over the place.  Loved the garlic peri peri sauce you could top the chips with.

I would have to say my favourite place now is a Ramen place they have a few locations in California.  It's the best vegan ramen I've ever had (I'm not vegan just a vegetarian); it's insanely good and I'm craving it all the time.  You would think the edamame is just whatever go to a 99 Ranch and pick up some for cheap then boil it home, but this place soaks it in yuzu sauce it tastes like a stronger lemon juice.  We've tried reproducing the recipes and have been very unsuccessful.

Another place that I loved, but went out of business due to the pandemic, was a Mexican restaurant.  It just had a typical Mexican restaurant name it wasn't a chain.  They had the best Chile Relleno I've ever had too and some pretty spice salsa that still had flavour to it too (usually places just make it burn if you ask for the hot stuff).   It's the only picture I've got 😞 I sliced it up because it would be super heated inside... probably took the picture because I would guess I was waiting for more chips and salsa.

A place I don't like it's a chain I tried it once and really didn't like it.  Mod Pizza.  I hate it.  It just tastes awful.
