  1. It's not a bad idea.

People get very hyped over these good ideas, but it's very hard to implement.  Finding committed people and managing such a team is challenging.  Let's stipulate that GFL does suddenly start a streaming team in some form.  Then what?  They recruit people who say they want to stream and how often do they stream?  I find the answers often lie in very little, close to never, or never.  Can we force them to do it or simply demote people who are inactive?  I think that's too aggressive and does not solve the problem anyways.  I suppose it's true we could say that for any team or idea here.  I bring it up because it seems to happen in this type of team or similar teams in the past (in GFL that is).

I think instead of approaching it as something bigger like a team...  there are two better approaches in my opinion are good baby steps in the right direction, and then it can mature into something official if it shows promise.

    1. For anyone who is interested and getting high off of this idea... don't wait for blessings from Staff and the rest of the community.  Start streaming unofficially and including the community on your work and progress.  It might even be a great way to get promoted or be the successful team leader if it does materialize into something.  What's great about it for you is since it was unofficial it does not look like failure if it doesn't work out, and efforts invested there (even in failure) might have a more positive outlook compared to becoming a server manager of a low pop server (risky outlook).
    2. We should take advantage of the teams we already have, and the team that could do something like this is the Events Team.  Make streaming a type of weekly or biweekly type of event and see how it goes.  It's a win-win because you'll improve the events team productivity and you'll be testing the idea out.  Some people have been probing and poking at it and so it doesn't make sense to enact a new team when there is already a team... admittedly not dedicated to streaming... but reasonably capable of hosting such an event as a trial run at the idea.
  2. A slightly older thread, but relevant in light of recent updates.  Are you guys planning on intermediate elections or promoting a runner up or two?  I don't think it's a bad idea.

I think another good idea would be to by default have all division leaders and team leaders counted as council (you don't have to force them to vote on anything just make them capable of it if they would like to).

  3. This picture is a bit older (2017), but relevant because this astronaut, Victor Glover, he's going to be on the SpaceX Crew-1 launch suppose to be next week I think.  He's a really great speaker and very nice person; he also spent a lot of time trying to connect with interns and participate in events with them even just going to lunch didn't seem like a hassle or problem.

We also had a fun experience voting.  What a long line-- out the door and some smushed up line inside.  I was hoping for a quick 20-30 minutes left work 30 minutes earlier and padded my schedule an extra hour... still had to take my class over the phone and finished just a few minutes after voting.  Wow!  The university really should have just given the day off I did everything I could to not take the class that way, but it's whatever happened.

  4. Several people have tried your idea before.  They were usually not very happy with the results (here).  I do not think what you are saying bad, but these complex topics are deceivingly covered by a very basic wrapper; unfortunately: the approach is going to have to be a lot more elaborate and creative to get there, and it's going to take a lot of time and effort beyond a few policy changes.  It's not to suggest that you are intentionally trying to overly simplify them, but it's very hard to see or understand until you're in the middle of it.  For example:  Lifting an "unjust" ban is hard because everyone thinks they're right.

One suggestion is to think of these problems more of symptoms rather than the cause.

  5. What do you propose for the process/flow when a Team Leader decides that the ban is unacceptable, and should it only be the Team Leader's decision or who else should be involved?  How?

    edit:

I think it might be a good idea for me to say that I am only making a statement and asking a question, which do not infer or are not relevant to my opinion.

  6. The overall idea is short and sweet, and I think it is a good one.  It's a fun idea that will drive a little bit of activity without being too intricate or ridiculous.  I think by itself the once every 3 months  is a reasonable wipe; I think it works on other servers with the level schemes.

I don't think it would be a stretch to add a little something else: I would recommend adding a bonus outside of Discord to attract people into Discord.  This would help prevent the cannibalism strategies I spoke of in the past; otherwise you're only going to get winners who are already part of the in crowd in Discord.

I would try to add something so that the winner can be seen on the forums ie. have their title rain $ signs just like we have for VIP with stars or glitter.  This would also make the shorter timeline more interesting and fun (if we wanted a monthly wipe).  I think the shorter wipes would give more people a chance to win and keep the competition a little more exciting... otherwise we'll probably have always the same people winning and after 6-7 weeks people will sputter out and give up.

I think we are not using badges properly and this might be another area where wiping might make it more okay.  I think we should be able to stackable badges; not make a new one every month or so neither make it transferable.  I wont take credit for this on my own people seemed to really like this in an older community I was a part of.  It looks we have the setup in place and just need to massage it a bit to use it.  Here's what they had:

We can place it here and use it for all sorts of things here

  7. The results aren't too surprising.  You did learn something: There's no correlation.  People who make money are just as likely to be gamers as people who make little to nothing ;) interesting results although too bad you didn't give it more time.  Maybe you'll see more correlation if you start binning it into other categories like age or general area they live in.

Bragging about about how much your parents make even if they make a lot is very silly.

    edit:

I thought of something that you could do to improve this study and possibly answer your question.  Maybe a linear correlation is difficult, but you could probably get the probability that someone who has lower or higher income will have a certain number of games.  Make it a matrix and load each cell with a probability instead.

I would imagine the contour graph would be the most fun and easiest to interpret.  Then you can find hot spots to see if a certain income is more likely to buy games.

I think you're already seeing a hot spot with $0.  If you could filter it by age you might get less noisy results.

I'm picturing something like this, which I just stole from mathworks website.  I think you already have enough information and might be able to use a z-table although I'm not sure I admit my statistics has always been shaky (http://www.z-table.com/) I think I can kind of see the form of Z in your formula for r.

  8. The language doesn't look too bad.  Looks like there's a setCookie and getCookie option?  Can it be used with something like getUiColor and setUiColor... and similarly with the other settings such as size?  I'm not sure how bad that would be I'm sure I'm overly simplifying it.

I suppose a bachelors degree is irrelevant anyways since i'm mostly aiming for an outdoor type of job

I wont press you on it although I will say that a lot of skilled jobs are outdoor too you don't have to be an engineer, medical doctor or lawyer... engineering one I'll say even that has a lot of outdoor opportunities too I've even looked at one position that asked if I'd be willing to live in a tropical jungle (sounded like a movie).  If there's any chance that it could possibly be of interest even the slightest bit I would encourage to at least look at available programs to see if something might catch your attention.  One of the cooler outdoor ones I've seen from a friend since high school is they studied geology.  Their job is to travel a lot, go hiking, look at rocks, and take a few measurements like temperature; they also get called to look at the land after there has been a landslide or sink hole.
