  1. A lot of posts that show up in Latest Topics or posts are irrelevant (examples below is a player report and a moderation application, which the typical member probably should not post in), but not every user wants to browse the entire forums to find new threads that may be of interest to them.  This reduces the likelihood of them posting and does not help forum activity.

Similar to the suggestion below I think each role should be looked at again so that the Topics advertised on the right side is more fitting for each role; this would be pleasant if the Posts shown below that area are within those categories as well.  If they are not a Server Admin, then what's the point of having player reports?  If they aren't a Moderator+, then should they be responding to New Moderation Application?  The other day I even saw a feedback to Staff thread that I do not have permission to when I clicked on it.

My suggestion has the word "configurable" in it.  This is for bonus points.  I would add a section in settings or possibly have a checkbox available within categories or sub-categories so that a user can toggle it; they can choose which categories they want to appear in their latest posts beyond their default.  We have something that allows toggling its display, and so I would imagine it's not a terrible stretch to save it in a setting related to Latest Topic although including sub-categories would be even better.  Similarly we have followed content, but I'm not interested in having notifications every new thread or post...  just want latest topics to reflect more relevant or interesting topics.

  2. I am not very surprised, but it is still disappointing.

Community Advisor use to somewhat handle this, but that role has transformed into more of a safe retirement position in my opinion... speaking for the seemingly general case it's mostly holding a title and probably a few words in a Trusted forum, but I would imagine it's a lot of predetermined decisions not swayed very much between kids.  It's not to say everyone in there is useless, but the position is not effective as it once use to be; people at least use to be more curious and interested in the role, and so you can really tell when nobody is aiming for it anymore.  At the very least I think it's fair to say the position has been neutered and I don't people outside of that position would care if it were removed.  It makes sense because from the top of the hierarchy they have never been able to handle news they don't want to hear, and so you really don't need community advisors if you were going to do it your way anyways.  Seems to be working out fantastic for the Trump administration 😅.

The statement about the Trump administration is sarcasm.

  3. edit: Looks like Mavis beat me to the punchline.

You don't have to be an admin+ to get results although it is admittedly less immediate.  Record a demo ;) I recommend using the Steam console because it has powerful tools.

Even if you "missed it" in your demo then you can use drive, which is like using noclip in your recording.

  4. Happy 4th of July

We have a very silly president, but we really do live in a great country.  I enjoyed my brief experience out in the UK for school and there were a lot of great benefits to being there (education and healthcare is excellent), but it surprisingly revealed a lot I took for granted as a US citizen even in comparison to other first world countries.  Those little things really make a big difference and we live very privileged lives (for now).

  5. I recognize you.

Hey, no problem!  Nothing ever said to me, but I think many of us especially in leadership roles have been in that position.  It's certainly better here than the real deal in the real world although I've done it there too; it also could have been far more dramatic such as an immediate demotion 😅.  I bring this up so that you know you're not alone.  I like your perspective on your role in the community- you don't need to have privileges to have an alright time here.  I have many ideas about what defines a great leader, and among those ideas I believe people who are the most charismatic, influential and can drive the community without those privileges fit into that definition.  I've seen a lot of people loaded with these privileges and titles;  they seemingly define their success by the lack of errors and conflicts, but that's easy to do because they contribute just as much to the community as a one time visitor only putting in the effort of registering their account.  No matter the case: Thanks for returning.  I hope you find this next round more enjoyable and long lasting.

  6. Where there's smoke, there's fire.

I personally think you are right and there is a lot of bias involved; furthermore: Probably these members whether it includes yourself or not are probably not legitimately breaking the rules.  I wont talk about anything specific to you or people you know because I don't anything about any of you.  What's concerning to me is a lot of times these members receiving the "unfair" bias can often cleverly skirt around rules and manipulate the system; they bring down and steer others into trouble long before their own downfall.  They don't need to break written rules to be frustrating and chaotic.  I strongly prefer when leadership can follow the rules to the letter, but they are also just guidelines and if I were in a position of higher leadership hearing out arguably good reasons (understanding context) from my team, then I'd fully back them.  Learning leaders can follow strictly the checklist to see if it's black or white; great leaders can work with gray area.

  7. I was looking for my beer shirt.  I never worked at that pizza place, but I liked their shirt and bought it.  I'll continue to look for it or maybe I'll wear it soon.

The shirt below we saw the shirt and really liked it.  They only had the very little kids one.  I tried it on for giggles, but it fit (barely)!

  8. It's being called out even in places that are practicing it because t's being done blindly without sincere purpose or understanding.  Context always matters: GFL is not the right place and it doesn't make sense to do it here.  If it's working elsewhere, then good for them.

A lot of the other methods explained are much better.  In my personal opinion: The best way to do it is to educate yourself and take on a leadership role; champion for these ideas and drive the change.  It's truly the ultimate way.  I posted the quote before, but I think this is another good time to share it:

"No good idea succeeds simply because it is a good idea. Good ideas must have champions- people willing to believe in them, push for them, fight for them, gain adherents and other champions, and press until they succeed. Bad ideas don't die simply because they are intrinsically bad. You need people who will stand up and fight them, put themselves at risk, point out the weaknesses, and drive stakes through their hearts." - Colin Powell

  9. I always encourage people to show me wrong, which is why I'm going to bump this and inquire on its status as it has been a few weeks.  Has anyone tried anything regarding this or has it budged?  I really don't want you guys to fail if you really want it; it's not a power move to prove myself right...  I want to be proven wrong.  It's a total win if this can be done.  My earlier comments weren't against the idea; they were to share that there were indeed genuine and strategic past efforts, and some lessons learned.  Please be aware of them and use them; otherwise: it's another empty suggestion people got riled up over for nothing.  Don't let that happen if you want this to become something.

  10. Sometimes I spill my milk and I explode in anger.  Someone else seeing this might claim it's spilled milk; nothing to cry over.  What they didn't see is that I've been spilling my milk 300x per day everyday for the past 10 years and I've done everything I can trying to prevent my milk from spilling, but it still happens.  I'm not angry that the milk spilled once; I'm angry about it always happening.

This incident itself is horrible, and nobody should lose their life over a petty or nonviolent crimes.  Worse is that it's not even giving light to a greater problem; that greater problem has already been well-known for a very long time.  I mean not long ago exactly the same story, but people were talking about Eric Garner.  Still very recent was Ahmaud Arbery maybe just a few weeks ago because being a person of colour and going for a run is a high risk activity.  This wasn't just a racist white cop against a black man, but there are (subconscious) bias and systematic racism.  People of colour and minorities are always running against the wind (and possibly bullets); there are huge barriers for the most basic and fundamental needs or respect that people like me automatically have.

It's not a trivial problem.  There are a lot of programs aiming to wipe this bias and topics like this are being covered in school and elite universities.  I literally took a class at my university that basically told me that I was racist, and it was really challenging for me.  Something I've noticed between my younger girlfriend and I is that her lack of bias is very much natural compared to my thought process.  To me it's like translating a language.  It takes me a moment to tell myself "Oh, that's kind of racist" or "That's not fair."  I have to correct myself or go against my intuition.  I don't want to think the wrong way first and I am embarrassed, but I grew up in a society that was okay with this way of life.  A lot of people still don't even bother correcting their self.  So maybe as the next generation assumes many of these leadership roles where doing the right thing is more natural for them, that these problems will happen less.  Unfortunately, for now, being quiet about it doesn't seem to be working and so while being loud isn't the preferred method it's practically the only way to possibly get something.
