Yeah, I actually really enjoyed physics whenever I did it right. I'll probably take it in college again and if I enjoy it, I might consider a career/major in it.
I think Major Push is majoring in that or it sounded like that the last time I recall. They might be a good person to talk to (hopefully I'm not putting information they didn't want on blast). I know you're not asking, but you're always welcome to reach out to me especially on electromagnetism (my favourite).
I'll be a little bit cruel and suggest you pursue engineering instead if you are considering physics.

I've just started The Witcher and I'm enjoying the show so far
was happy to see it on your list of songs.
Ooooh physics. That's a hard class. I think it's one of those classes that no person in the world can really teach it without criticism. I already finished my bachelors in electrical engineering and I still struggle when I review those topics, and I would put money on it that I'm considered pretty good in that domain (my employer does). It's fun anyways. I hope you at least enjoyed it despite the possible stress.
Ouch with those AP classes. The high school I attended they were just introducing AP and Honours while I was there and I took a few that were available. The class for Calculus BC didn't exist yet although the exam was there, and our professor kindly lectured what they could during lunch. It was a real special treat. I failed English
the university equivalent was much easier in my opinion (more fair and practical too).
Good stuff! Great to take a break. Great work getting through it all! We're in such tough times.

I would say most CS:S players who don't play ZE and visit the forums are rare. Vote ban is hard to implement because it is very easy to abuse. What might be a better option considering you're among the few is trying applying for admin; record demos and submit a report for the mean time.
I don't see a template yet probably because it's too new, but here's the forum category: https://gflclan.com/forums/forum/1207-admin-applications/
Welcome to the community!

If you plan to use Discord often I find that the name everyone is a very popular choice ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Welcome back. Are we allowed to say that we like your old name see if we can persuade you to keep it? It's always so frustrating when people change their names especially if they have history there, and I feel like people who do it often are trying to hide their past for some reason
Only generally speaking and not saying this is always the case

How unfortunate.
Maybe a solution is updating nomination to be more like petitions so that the maps that are nominated the most make it in for a final vote? Then maps with equal votes will prioritize the ones that were nominated first.

I would say one of the most difficult things hardly involves any technical details or the game. It can be a showstopper right up front even after all of this very scientific discussion about how to do it the right way. I recommend starting off by making a team roster or really going for the talent with tryouts.
-
Okay. I'll stop on that topic- no contest.
Anyhoo: The "it never hurts to try" is something I use to say often. I still believe in it, but just don't be silly going in for it without learning about the history. Just because it failed in the past doesn't negate its future success, but it's foolish to not learn about the past pitfalls. Individual efforts are very different from team and community efforts. It's cute the first time to watch the dog chase its tail, but when topics like these repeat it's painful when experienced persons feel unheard or ignored... as if they are criticize just to criticize or because they have "negative behaviour" for not flowing with the team. I don't think it's unfair or wrong for me to say try not to make the same mistake.
Certainly: Go for things. Even while I was in such a leadership role it was the story I also told. Just do it. Just try it. Start something unofficial and transform it into something official. What I think this needs is proof of concept; keep in mind that doing it just as one person or one account you'll want to show scalability to really work it (does it work the same way or relatively close for 1 person compared to something that involves 10 people?). Show the people who have told you "no" that they are wrong; give them a hint or whiff of success and lead the way. It's yours to own.

Many apologies because I admit and know it's sexist, but social media for females are very different ballpark compared to other types of accounts. It's an unfortunate truth and I wish we lived in a better world.

I usually prefer learning from others that the pan is hot instead of touching it myself to see. If anyone wants to risk burning their hands by their self, then by all means go for it there's nothing stopping you (I wont). Speaking for yourself as one competitive person makes sense and I think probability of controlling your own success especially if you are more passionate, then it makes sense that you can manage it and do well. Good stuff. Great job. Speaking about teams and greater community involvement is a different story and is a huge task. Again: If someone wants to facilitate or take on a team effort, then feel free to touch the pan yourself and let me know if it's hot or not- I have no problem learning from you and I'm no longer in a leadership role to worry about risking myself.
I'm not strongly against and wouldn't suggest not doing it, but I am sharing my experience on this and letting you know that there are a lot of details. A lot of concepts sound great and really exciting, but actual practice those subtle details can snag you. I have super open arms I totally welcome anyone to show me the right or better way to do it. This effort was about 4 years ago so this is why people are forgetful.
edit:
Another bit of advice GFL or not is that even when someone has done it wrong or didn't do it very well it's probably not a bad idea to try and learn what they did; see what went wrong or understand why certain decisions were made. It's foolish to repeat mistakes. There's no point in trying to reinvent the wheel or enter a new opportunity with blindfold. It's not to say that you can't do a good job, but it couldn't hurt your chances to know more.
I also posted because I know the risks and paid the price myself. I wanted to share a small piece of my experience and let others know a little bit about that risk (tarnished reputation and the workload involved).
-
Lessons were learned as there was an effort in the past. I'll just say it's a lot easier said than done. Whoever goes through this again I'll say there is a huge risk of tarnishing your reputation even if you do all the right things.
-
GFL has tried this before.
-
I personally liked your text guide better. Why not add the video to that guide and have it so the text supplements it?
-
I was a prominent member in another community and there were a lot of ban happy admins who told the people they banned "Have fun at GFL." Not a bad idea; so I went to go check it out.

Good luck on your endeavours.

warnings should be necessary for ambiguous trolling, (soundboard trolling etc). This is kinda hard to explain since u dont play ze
which is also why i said this
You're mistaken: I actually came from the counter-strike servers including and mainly ZE. I was demoted so long ago you so you hardly know anything about me
I'm very transparent about my demotion because I still, to this day, think I did the right thing; without a doubt a little bit of complaining makes me feel better about it too. The conversation I had then is almost the same one we're having on this thread and among my last posts in the admin sections was asking others to ease up on their enforcement and bans. My guess would be that everyone else who was opposing me are probably very sad and in a difficult situation today while I've been very prosperous and successful-- doing the right things pays off in the long run.
You should probably try to explain so that others who truly don't know much about ZE could contribute. No point in not taking advantage of a few bright minds who merely play different games.
-
In their eyes: Your past history is your warning. Any new warnings are a very kind although unnecessary courtesy. Where do they draw the line? Only where it benefits your or a few people? I don't think so.
-
If someone posts 2+2=5, then is it really a controversial topic? People will get loud because the answer is obvious; not because it's controversial.
I agree with you that some people can have these hawk eyes and probably even provoke unnecessary situations from happening instead of deescalating it or using critical thinking, but otherwise stacked punishments sounds like a very practical system. I do hope that the passage of time is considered so that mutes from a year ago isn't held against someone, but if you're just exiting a month long mute and you repeat within weeks an offense that warrants a mute, then that's on the individual (in other words you screwed up). The mutes aren't just a punishment; it's a warning. They're literally telling you that they don't want you to do it anymore.
Maybe what warrants a mute is too unclear or maybe they are muting petty things. You might have a better thread trying to clear up or define what kind of microphone activities warrant a mute... which activity is gray area and what kind of context might make it okay to spam a little bit.
Also: If I were you and worried about being on my last steps... I wouldn't just stop spamming (even the little things)... start recording demos of all your rounds. It's a little annoying, but it might save you. Save them for a few days before deleting it just in case.

stacked punishments is the current punishment system on ze. Essentially, each punishment has categories - Ebans, bans, mutes, gags. Successive punishments in ONE category increase in duration, from 30 mins to 1 hr to a day to a week etc, and they do not "stack" from category to category. My next ban may be permanent, but my next mute may still be 30 mins.
I agree for the most part--repeat offenders who do really dumb and destructive things on the sv should def be punished. Small things like silly audio clips or whatnot should not be even included in the stack system.
Does it gradually clear off like after 6 months?
-
Is it silly for me to ask what stacked punishments are? Is that something for repeat offenders they don't get the usual escalation of new or visiting players?
I mean... if it's repeat offenders. There's really no case for them. They need to stop. They've already gotten their warnings. It's really as simple as that. It doesn't make sense to warn them over again; they already know what they're doing.
Something I can agree on is not hammering down on minor things even if it is a repeat offender. It's a very common problem not limited to GFL neither video games. A person rubs off against others in the wrong way and they're suddenly in the spotlight. Out of sight; out of mind no longer works for them, and everyone has hawk eyes with their finger resting on the bind key that has their ban and lame reason ready to go. Unfortunately: This numbers game works far too often for people to not give it a chance, and so they'll go for the ban whenever they can. It's reinforced and positively reflects their performance, and they are more likely to get things their way or an eventual promotion; they probably also get a small thrill out of it. For some reason I've noticed more hostile admins are kind of amusing and it probably attracts shitty people to join the servers and troll. It's a vicious cycle.
My perspective is the best leadership or admin can get the job done using their permissions as little as possible if at all.

I think this will have a very similar impact as 9/11 did on the US.
I think the already bad gap between the wealthy and the poor will worsen, and especially for minorities; I also believe education will tank.

Good luck and be safe.

Can't remember if I posted this one or not... didn't want to scroll through it all so i'll risk posting it a second time if that's the case. Was in January was just browsing an Apple store for fun. Tried taking a few funny pictures too to save for the next customers.

NASA Live - SpaceX Demo-2 Launch
in News

edit: It got "scrubbed" today for safety reasons related to the weather. I think they will try again on the 30th.
I recommend watching it. NASA and SpaceX are doing a crewed launch from US land using a commercial spacecraft. I hope there is a positive outcome on this historic moment for us to remember. Here's the link!
https://www.nasa.gov/nasalive
I've boasted to a few several times that I've done internships at NASA. I was never at Kennedy Space Center (KSC) where they are doing the launch, but I was at Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston where Mission Control Center is. They wont be very responsible for the launch although they'll probably take over as the crew (hopefully) arrives to the International Space Station (ISS). For more bragging here are some pictures below in the spoiler. I continued working on flight and space hardware until very recently. I cut my hair although a lot of it has grown back due to COVID 19.
Hope you enjoy it! Don't miss out.
