  1. Delegate tasks to lower tiered Staff members such as Server Admins and Server Managers.

"I am more afraid of an army of 100 sheep led by a lion than an army of 100 lions led by a sheep." - Charles Maurice de Talleyrand

Would you rather have 10 Community Advisors working on a project, or a Communtiy Advisor leading 10 team members per project?  You'll get more done and it will inherently compensate for your "communication issues" because the members will more directly know the status, and they might even be able to communicate its progress or results for you; furthermore: They'll become more involved and invested, it'll take a load off your shoulders, and it'll prepare them for Staff roles when the time comes (like now).

Of course... for critical tasks: Hold their hand and guide them through it should they need it, or work on it separately (a redundant although protective measure) should they fall behind or fail.

  2. This thread is not appropriate for the greater community.  I think the better option to do is to speak with a few people in private and ask for them to PM Staff members.  You're more likely to get action from private support than a public thread in riot.

My two cents on a lesson learned then and now: Sometimes the "right answer" isn't always the better solution.  I'm not speaking of anyone in particular, but the cost of reprimanding someone can be greater than the damage they cause.  Organizations often evaluate trade-offs with each individual because it's pretty typical... and I'm not saying this is 100% always the case...  the better option might come at the small expense of someone not having the best attitude or behavior; conversely: the safer and better behavior or attitude might not always be the most progressive or productive.  Everyone wants to have someone with the best attitude and behavior, and to also be progressive and productive, but these two characteristics are usually more inherent of their improper counterparts.  We especially see this in technical fields such as engineering and this is why you might hear of terms like "shielding."

  3. There was an earlier discussion similar to this about the profile header or cover photo.  The length is not fixed, and I think it's better for the website to preserve its more robust style at the small cost of some words separating between two lines.

  4. I'm going to stipulate the two are retail jobs and one is for $50,000 and the other one is for $60,000.  I'm hoping to keep this conceptual, which is why I'm stipulating an example.

Great responses so far!  I think it'll really help me come up with a good idea for my friend.  The second company flew him out to the area and he wouldn't be able to fly back in time before the offer expired.

I also worry about myself for if I'm lucky enough to choose a job in the future.  Some great things to consider!

  5. Do you prefer pay or culture/comfort?

Both companies pay enough.  Both are in a field of interest.  You don't need to read below if you don't want a lengthy back story.

    edit:

I made a big mistake and it has been agonizing me.

  6. You shouldn't hate yourself :(  I think you're cool.

Don't worry about the drama here.  GFL is large and the drama is inherent of this characteristic; it happens at all large organizations, and this does not exclude some of the more reputable and prestigious places you have heard of.

  7. Being a vegetarian; therefore: Boneless.

I preferred boneless even when I did eat meat.  I think the bones are often too messy and sometimes have unwanted pieces like tendon or veins nearby where boneless is often very simple and less likely (or at least seemed like it to me) to have all that other stuff.

  8. Stick with the one board as a high level overview.  "Divide and conquer" by action.  You don't need a document or boards for every sub-task.  Your team is going to give up if there's more paperwork than actual work involved, and you're going to burn yourself out too.

Don't expect me to do the same. Anonymity is my style

    Nobody expects it, lol.  Cheers.

    edit:

I took this other one for that What If thread, but I got so busy, that I had forgotten to post it.  I'll just post it here.

  10. The splitters look pretty cheap.

I don't recommend this although it's possible: If you weren't willing to purchase another splitter, then maybe cut the wires and swap the nodes used for right and left speakers?
