  1. This is a silly gaming community and community advisor is a silly role, but I am certain you stumbled upon many valuable learning experiences.  I'm often accused of believing I'm smarter and better than everyone when the individual has fallen onto my bad side; however: Just because you can't draw an energy splitting diagram using crystal or ligand field theory neither explain why bipolar supply on your integrated circuits are better for combating radiation effects and noise is better doesn't mean I think you're an idiot.  It's how you piece things together and approach problems.  Having fulfilled such a role and moving into your new emeritus role, as well as your Krispy Kreme role...  you're going to continue seeing in a new light, think in a different way, and you can use the exact same mechanisms for your endeavors.

I think you're going to do great.  Krispy Kreme sounds like fun too ;) Cheers.

True, this is certainly  supported by the current events going on with OSRS and RS3 playerbase coming together to take up arms against jmods. While making many great memes at the same time

People don't like their mods anymore :o?  Oh boy.

    @Joshy Computer Science for now.

Like the "For now" part :lenny:

I think a lot of people stick with Computer Science once they are in.  At my university: I see a lot more people switching from majors such as Electrical Engineering into Computer Science.  It's a very promising field, and maybe you can get some practice with whatever our Developer team is suppose to be.

  4. It's fantastic to focus on school although I am recalling - in my opinion - you are already one of the more sharp contributors of the community.  There's no doubt your studies will expose you to more concepts and hopefully it may inspire ideas or motivations.  If you don't mind me asking, then what are you studying?

  5. I'm reflecting on my brief visit to Houston.

This picture was kind of funny although I'd probably still be smiling even if it wasn't.  The person taking the picture of this thought any waveform was a good thing.  It's clearly not garbled neither noisy, but this application uses frequency shift keying (FSK) meaning the amplitude should not be changing, which means this is a terrible waveform.

I had also hit STOP on the oscilloscope, and so I don't know why I'm still holding the probe... for any of you sharp eye folks out there.

Thanks. Its crazy isn't it? Its good you got out. Lots of people just don't know its scary. This city is more packed than 2001. We had really bad experiences with the Tax day and Memorial Day rain events in the past 2 years. It wasn't pretty. An Allison like rain event would end us for a week or 2. Trucks can't come and deliver supplies to stores. HEB was crazy today. Don't work there but I know someone who does and I went shopping today.

I had heard stories and saw pictures of past events.  They were really drilling us at work although I confess they drill for EVERYTHING.

I definitely would have been screwed if I stayed.  I really enjoyed being in the area and was strongly considering to stay, but I was also very homesick.  Now, I'm Houston (and London) sick :( I can't find any spinach enchiladas or kick-ass buffets in my home area.  That Cuisine of India, Chinese Buffet, Mamacitas, Monterey's Little Mexico...  I loved all of those places so much.

H-E-B has such great service!  I was very close to one and that's where I primarily snagged by groceries.  The prices were competitive too and being a vegetarian is cheap ;)  Your friend has to rock!

  7. If it's too ambitious to have a disable account option, then I would imagine Account Status would be an easy alternative.  I don't want my suggestion to be turned away due to a more ambitious follow-up suggestion not working out, which is why I left that in the spoilers.

  8. I was going to reply to an earlier thread, but maybe a suggestion would be best in the suggestions forum ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I would imagine many are already rolling their eyes at the subject and are quietly thinking again "What the hell, Joshy?!"  I completely agree with most others: There is no real need to delete an account, but I think these requests have given rise to a technical opportunity and I've noticed several social media websites allow people to "disable" their accounts or use an extra parameter/status shown on their profile such as "Inactive."  Here's an example:

    uilSQWI.png

Is it necessary?  I'm not suggesting that, but I think it wouldn't be difficult to have available; it would also combat these threads and make people feel like the option is available (although the outcome is effectively the same as not having it), and it helps GFL stay competitive by offering at least comparable features.  You can clearly see I've marked myself inactive on the exampled community, but the near 5,000 posts truthfully suggests continued activity.

I may follow up with an "Account Disable" feature although I think this one is more complicated and might require more technical skills.  I prefer suggesting simple and elegant ideas, but I am willing to continue some dialogue with that if the status idea is not satisfactory enough or I've inspired some curiosity.

    Cheers.

I told you this already @TheJitFace if you plan on using GPU's to mine btc you are retarded

No need to be rude about it.  This isn't a terrible question.  Sure: It's a terrible question if you look at it from a single and most direct approach in this case.

Radios have a similar problem, and so if you cannot find any literature on this for bitcoins and GPUs, then I recommend exploring textbooks on Power Amplifiers (PA), Low Noise Amplifiers (LNA), Microwave, RF and mm-wave Technology, Antenna Systems Engineering, or Wireless Communication Architecture.  I only recommend these books because the strategies are well established and I don't know if they have "good" books on bitcoins; I also recommend this because someone was telling me all about this stuff and they brought up how they "might" use this for bitcoin mining too.

These are just some slides I found on the internet and the information on these slides can be found in textbooks (the person kindly cited their source).  I'm hoping below is a reasonable enough walk-through to inspire some investigation.

What is "Power Efficiency?"  It's always some relationship between the amount of power used to supply the system versus the output power.  An example of a system with low power efficiency is a system that can produce 10 W of output power at the cost of 300 W; conversely: A system with good power efficiency may produce less output power of 5 W, but only at a mere cost of 1 W.  Anyone who has taken a physics class will tell me its impossible citing their conservation rules, but they've only been looking at linear systems.  Older textbooks talk about power efficiency and typically use the Greek letter, η, but I have noticed more modern textbooks use Power Added Efficiency (PAE) if you happen to stumble across this.  You can see in the image above that these amplifiers have a trade-off between efficiency and the output power.  There is almost no efficiency on one of the spectrum although it has output power, and on the other side is really good efficiency with almost no output power.  Clearly, there exists a "sweet spot" in the center where there is decent enough efficiency and still some output power.

A strategy to achieve this sweet spot is using a non-linear system such as Class C amplifiers rather than the Class A, B, or AB amplifiers.   Older systems will literally bias or supply the amplifiers in such a way they are not completely conductive 100% of the time, and therefore making it a Class C amplifier.  This doesn't like an option for a GPU because IC design is expensive, but the concepts can still work.  Some people will buy these integrated circuit chips that have fully conductive amplifiers built in (Class A amplifiers), but they want it to act like a Class C amplifier to improve their power efficiency, and so they find ways to literally turn off the amplifiers during its operation.  For example: This front-end module chip by Skyworks.

    wW8bPBZ.png

What they'll do is use the "bypass" pin to bypass these amplifiers.  In the transmit section you'll see it skip over the Power Amplifier (PA), and in the receive section you'll see it skip over the Low Noise Amplifier (LNA).  These two amplifiers are super power hungry, but sometimes you don't need them to be on.  If you have it continuously running, then the power efficiency drops; if you have them running too little, then you might not get enough output power to send a signal to the other antenna or to recover the signal from the transmitting antenna.

Much like these systems...  you could be seeking a sweet spot for bitcoin mining.  If your system is continuously consuming power, then it's going to cost you more to mine than what you can recover, but do you really need it to be continuously running to be effective?  It's something to ponder on and it might require a little bit of statistics to find the most effective configuration ;) .  I don't have any experience with bitcoins, but this is what the person told me about their system and how they use it for their interest in bitcoin mining.  I thought it was clever.

Good luck!  If it doesn't work out for you in bitcoin mining, then maybe you can use the concepts or skills for a more promising career.  I'm not smart and I don't know anything about these things...  I'm just sharing what I was told and the pictures I could find online.

  10. I'm going to have to go with soft shell although I will admit my opinion is premised with my only experience of hard shells at Taco Bell, but look at these... they just look so good, and they taste even better!
