  1. Welcome back!

Congratulations on your academic achievements and transition to college.  I personally enjoyed the university a lot more than high school, but tread carefully with those hours: I'm sure you already know less class hours doesn't usually mean less work.  I've definitely lost many nights of sleep :O.o: .  Each university I've attended doesn't pick your courses neither set your schedule, and so I hope your college treats you with that same respect and you have a good experience too.  Cheers!

  2. EDIT: God fucking shit I didn't hit save or submit.

Too narrow if things have to work right away, work the first time, or be directly profitable.  I was there when each Minecraft server failed.  I wasn't as involved to say that the leadership didn't work hard, but I saw in the announcements basically "loss of motivation" and "real life" as setbacks for the servers.  It's not to say the people leading these servers were bad (those reasons are fair), but did they truly work hard?  Even if they did: Did they work smart?  I can't say with full certainty that they didn't, but I wasn't very convinced that they did.

Does a server really need to make money too?  How are you going to make money off of a game like RuneScape?  You can't...  directly.  Do you honestly think when you're buying that new sweet gaming laptop or next generation smartphone, that the company is making money off of that?  Look below for the subtle hint.  What about the amount you pay to use a Google search engine or to go onto your Facebook account (these companies must be broke, right?).

Anyhow: I'm a bitter asshole who was demoted and I'm stupid.  I definitely wrote a lot more than I intended, and so I guess I'll stop here.

@Severely_Artistic, my suggestion for you is the following:  If you want it, then you'll probably have to get a lot of the work done by yourself first.  I'll only hint that your methods to make this happen "probably" wont be very direct either.

  3. I'm not seeing anything that's obviously "wrong" with it, but I agree with Hannah about the colour: I can't put my finger on it, but something about it just doesn't work.  I think it's because the colour of the orange on their shirt doesn't match too well with the yellow-ish, but I can totally understand that it would look really weird if it was all the same colour (like a hole through their shirt).  Maybe I would suggest blending or dithering the colour of their shirt into the background (like a gentle glow), which would give a nice gradient at the interface.

The title doesn't stand out.  This is probably where colour does deserve to have a better contrast from the background.  Would it have worked out with the blue like the logo?  If not the entire lettering, then experiment with its outline.

The guy on the left looks like he's kicking the man in the center- maybe consider a different placement or swap the red cap guy with the pitcher?  Not a big deal, but could take away from the message of an impressive team if that's what you were meaning to project.

    edit:

The above are simply suggestions or consideration.  I wouldn't necessarily call it criticism since I think the original work is pretty good overall.

  4. Pretty sure it'll be photoshopped into a penis or something odd, but I don't care.  I love pitas!  Had this a couple of weeks ago while the sister was visiting.  This one was a breakfast pita with spinach and feta.

Ne, efkaheestro.  I loved visiting athens and a good number of my friends while I was abroad are greek; i'm not sure why a good number of students studying ic design is greek.  One of my past suitemates is also greek/german.

  5. I don't know why I'm so nice by continuing some of my advising, I guess I just really like you, @Bae :B|: .

The problem I've had with a lot of ideas is that they are too narrow.  Imagine if there is a sub-forum for everything and every kind of contest?  These forums are already large enough and many areas of it are accumulating dust.  Large forums make us look effectively inactive, and this turns away business.  Think of it like this (another one of Joshy's silly analogies): You walk into two retail stores...  The first retail store is small, but the shelves look full; the second is a large retail store, but everything is really spread out and the shelves look empty.  Both stores could have the same quantity and selection of items, but I'll always have a bias where I think the larger store is "out of stock" on things or doesn't have a good selection merely because the shelves "look" empty.

What you can really do to evolve this idea, but still preserve the concentration of its mechanism...  namely the "event" part of it (again: mechanism)...  is to make an "Events" forum category.  For that matter: I think this could really absorb the "Giveaway" forums because most seem to end up being some kind of contest and anyways, and people could still make an "event" where they are giving away something for free; that category has been a bit slow lately anyways.  We'd lose nothing much like the success of our proof of concept with Member Activity forums absorbing Introduction (people can introduce their self AND update the community with their activity), which keeps up looking very active and busy.  It could also localize events that are scattered across the boards and attract people from other games and modes (I find that people within their own game and mode are already familiar with upcoming events anyways).  We can achieve additional functionality without having to add categories.  Visitors and potential members prefer active communities, and that's something you want to project when a person scrolls through the boards the first time and each following time.

My personal opinion is the staff members have not done a very good job at this given one was promoted to Directorate and the other is admittedly busy (these are fair reasons and it wouldn't be right to blame them for it, but it's safe to say that the roles aren't be fulfilled very well).  I think your idea is a pretty good one, and it can be optimized to be a bit more effective; it'll also be a good follow up in response to that announcement.

  6. I like to attend random seminars, and sometimes I pop up in the videos.  I'm not sure how many of the other videos I pop up in given the many different drinks I can make as a Starbucks barista; that's also not the Associate Director for the ISS and I'm completely unaffiliated with anybody and any groups wherever this place is at and the other places I might go that I'm unaffiliated with too.

  7. That is an interesting photo.  It's clearly water, but because of the sky's reflection and some visual interpolation with the dirt below the water, and the cloud-like pattern at the water's surface, it also looks - to me - like he's looking at the land from high above.

I remember several summer programs I got to be a part of.  I really enjoyed them.

I'm looking to become something in law enforcement.  Most likely at the federal level, where computers are involved (FBI, CIA, NSA, etc.)

Are you meaning the technical side since you mention computers being involved, cyber-security, an officer who has authority across various borders or regions, or an analyst?

I've always wanted to be in the medical field when I was younger.

When I was born my dad was diagnosed with leukemia, he was always in hospitals and died 4 times over 10 years. (They were able to get a heartbeat back)

He would always need to be taken to the hospital via paramedics / ambulances.

I grew fond over the medical field over the span of 10 years, and in a few months I hope to go to college for Basic RN & EMT.

My sister is a paramedic.  Great stuff!  Hard and tolling work though.

  10. Focusing on school is clearly the right thing to do.  What are you studying?  I feel like making another school thread unless someone else wants to beat me to it :ninja:

You're going to do great.  I recall seeing a lot of contributions from yourself while I was in a leadership role, and I can say that I'm grateful for any of it even if it's small.  You gave us the most precious and valuable asset you have: Your time.  Thanks!  I attend a university and have done both institutions in the US and an institution in the EU (IC), and so I can relate to you when it comes to understanding the commitment it demands and the stress it can inflict.

    You're too kind.

But I think I fail on the generally liked part.

    I like you.

    edit:

I think the selection here has more than deserved this badge as well as others who weren't selected (yet), but I would have preferred seeing it go to non-Staff (retired or not) and lower-tiered leadership groups.

I also have no idea why I have a badge.
