  1. We understand exactly what you are trying to say Andrew. We are saying that letting randoms in the server vote on if someone should be banned isn't the brightest idea. An admin should be able to make that decision. If an admin in the server is failing to do their job, you can contact the server manager or someone else in the staff team directly to address your concerns. Because in the end, mic spam is not a banable offense in any GFL server that I know of. Let alone a permanent ban.

We are glad you want the server to run well, and I'm sure the staff appreciate your concern, but allowing people to vote on if someone should be banned *permanently* is NOT how this problem should be fixed.

  2. I have never played Zombie Escape, but I will say this. Banning is a kind of power that admins hold because banning can easily be abused. Bans happen when people break the rules. If randoms were given the ability to vote on someone being banned, there could potentially be false bans that have no justification whatsoever. This is made especially true when you make the ban *permanent*.

Even if the vote is initialized by the admin, the admin should be smart enough to tell if someone is breaking server rules that justify a permanent ban. They should not be giving randoms the ability to decide for the admins. Because it isn't very responsible, and it shows the admin cannot make their own decisions.

If admins are failing to do their job, that's something you can bring up to the staff roster in private DMs. But I STRONGLY suggest a "vote to ban" system to never be added. The admins should be able to decide if someone is breaking enough rules to warrant a ban. Plus, this system could be very easily abused.

I'm sure the staff team appreciates the suggestion of course, but I'm not too sure if this would be the smartest idea.

  3. I can most definitely relate to the "surrounded by productive people" thing. When I am around people who are getting things done, it makes me want to do the same thing. Problem is all the people I am friends with are online so... Finding productivity is kinda hard hahaha.

Still though, thanks for the response here. I'm glad my random rants interests someone hahaha. And I do understand what you are saying about forcing. But my problem tends to be: I don't feel like doing something, but once I start doing it I start to enjoy it. It confuses the hell outa me trust me. So when I make myself do it besides my apprehension, I tend to suddenly feel good about it. Most of the time. Sometimes I just genuinely feel like being a lazy faf boi hahaha

In the past, I've had this with playing video games. I'm bored. I have games I can play. I grab it, look at it, think about it... decide it wouldn't be worth it right now. Then there are the few occasions where I say "Fuck it, I'ma play this game anyways" So I sit down and play... and sure enough, I just start to enjoy the game.

For me, I wouldn't say this is something limited to productivity. And though I'm by no means a doctor or psychologist, but I personally believe it's something that can very well be linked to depression. Depression certainly does hurt productivity.

Depression affects optimism in a heavy way. Depression reduces the production of the "happy chemical" in your brain. That chemical is essential for a lot of your moods. Without it, optimism is almost non-existent.

When you lack optimism, you have a hard time seeing any reason to work on projects. It isn't due to procrastination. That is something different. Procrastination is common to everyone. People who suffer due to depression just lack the ability to see the gain of working on anything productive.

They are very fully aware that being productive is going to be good for them. Just because they are depressed does not mean they lack intelligence. They just struggle to see the point in working on anything. It's not due to lack of intelligence. It's all because of the happy chemical missing.

  5. Hey everyone. I have a topic I want to discuss tonight. And it's something that really applies to me.

For those of you who do not know, I have a love of psychology. I am incredibly interested in how the human mind works, and how our emotions and thoughts and other various things influence our every day decisions. Hell, if I didn't want a career in programming, I'd probably become a psychologist.

So, procrastination. We've all felt it.

The most confusing part of procrastination is why it actually happens. I don't know why, myself. However, I do know when it tends to happen.

    Large Goals Being Ignored

Understanding this might require an example. Allow me to share with you what is currently happening.

I am currently developing a game right now. It's a basic platformer with a couple unique things. At one point I was working on it for hours straight daily. However, here lately when I think about working on it I feel physically uncomfortable. It's like the very thought of finishing my first ever game is unappealing. And this is so confusing to me.

I may or may not be a workaholic. I am always trying to work on something. If it's something small like managing a server, or something big like programming a GUI application. I need to be working on something. But for some strange reason... It's like I just feel uncomfortable when I think about working sometimes. And it happens at random.

And it is especially confusing when I consider this: the larger my goal is, the more uncomfortable I feel when I think about doing it.

If this is starting to sound familiar, then you know exactly what I am going through.

    When it Happens

This tends to happen when I am feeling lazy. I very rarely feel lazy. To be frank I don't like feeling lazy. It makes me feel sleepy and unproductive. But if I'm wasting my time on something, it's kind of like my mind makes me continue wasting time.

When I am currently wasting my time away, the thought of doing something productive becomes instantly unappealing. Despite the fact that being productive would literally be so much better, and it would benefit me in every way... I just feel like avoiding it.

This. This is resistance. And it happens with all of us.

    What is Actually Going On?

Resistance is something that happens to everyone. And before you start thinking it's a fear of success, that's not it at all.

The weirdest part of resistance is when you actually ignore it and work on your goal anyway. The urge to resist being productive suddenly begins fading away and you realize "hey this isn't all bad. I actually am enjoying this". I have experienced this so many times. I avoid working on something for hours, maybe even days. Then I find myself getting bored of watching YouTube and playing games, so I just start working on my project. And as soon as I start working on it, I suddenly realize "Wait a minute... I love being a programmer!"

    Resistance Comes in Many Forms

Resistance isn't just a discomfort you feel when you think about achieving a goal. Resistance can come in many forms.

Rationalization is a pretty common form of resistance. You will often try to come up with excuses to justify avoiding being productive. And in your mind, these excuses tend to make perfect sense.

Another form of resistance is perfectionism, which is much more subtle. It's when you are actually working on your goal, but you are literally wasting time trying to perfect very small details. Almost like everything has to be flawless. Sound confusing? Well, if you need an example. This is the perfect example.

    How to Avoid Resistance

... You can't. You are always going to have urges to procrastinate. So really, the best way to combat Resistance is to just simply work on your project anyway. Just start on it. Just try to get working on it, despite how unappealing it seems.

If you keep forcing yourself to do something, you will become more efficient at being productive. You will never stop having urges to procrastinate. But if you just force yourself to be productive, even if you don't feel like it, you will find yourself getting a lot more done. Because remember, if you just start being productive, you actually start to enjoy it.

In the end, the thought of being productive is what makes you uncomfortable. Actually being productive tends to make you feel pretty good. Remember, even the greatest minds in history had moments where they felt uncomfortable. Some of the greatest musicians had decades of experience with preforming, but they had reported times where they felt nervous before going on stage. They had no reason to be nervous. They had been doing it for years. But they still felt urges to just leave the building and forget the performance. But they did it anyway.

With all that being said, I should probably start working on my game again.

its an everyday struggle i complain because i have soo0o00oo much food ot eat rn

Any chance you can send over some? We are barely even able to get enough dinners for the week. I think my families typical food budget for a week is roughly $70 or $90. Which is enough to get a nice dinner for each day. So we usually don't have more than 1 or 2 snacks around the house. Which I'm fine with. It keeps me from pigging out on Doritos cool ranch all day hahaha.

I apologize for being a bit snappy, and I thank you for your help. I'm back in business for now.

This is your PC. Being snappy is completely understandable. I mean if my computer was messing up and I had no idea why, I'd be pretty frustrated myself.

Replacing computers is something I would hate doing. And when my PC is acting up, I get really worried and frankly mad. So if I were helping you out and you got a little snappy, I would most definitely understand and I wouldn't fault you there. I mean especially considering I've had pretty much the same PC for the past 5 years says a lot on that subject. I love my PC. it's my babi ❤️

  8. It's funny. A lot of people I know tend to complain because they have too much to do and just want to relax. Meanwhile it is 10:32pm and here's what I have to say.

I just want to work on something **damn it**

  9. I have already made a post about this here:

But I wanted to make a more official post here.

Right now it doesn't seem to be getting a whole lot of attention, and I'm trying to see if there is anyone interested. Because I am honestly excited for this to become a thing. Because I think I know how I could make it.

This would allow people to customize their Gmod to anything they want, any color in the RGB scale, along with any alpha setting to each color pallet.

I would probably also allow users to open a GUI window that shows the users what their theme would look like in-game. I'd probably allow them to cycle between multiple backgrounds, and of course choose between the options menu, the console, the q menu, etc.

I really want this to be an official project. So please, if you like this idea let me know here. It could be another side project I could develop for GFL.

(Of course you wouldn't have to be in GFL to use it, but I'll still keep GFL in mind as I develop it haha. Especially because I'll be having a little help from @Centrix with the files in Gmod and knowing what pixels to edit)

I just miss playing on a gameboy and my PS2

Ps2 hits me with some heavy nostalgia. I used to play a ton of racing games on the Ps2. My favorites being Burnout Revenge, XGRA, and (my top favorite) Need for Speed Most Wanted (2005)

I will always remember those games. I traded them to help pay for my graphics card for my PC. The same PC I still use to this day. It was worth the trade of course, but I'll never forget that damn console.

  11. I am still not ready to make the basics 5 yet, so here's a tip for those of you who think they have to prove something with their code.

Remember, you're a programmer. No one cares about what your code really looks like. If they can read it, and it does its job, and it does it well... Then that's it. Seriously.

No shame though, I used to do this same exact thing. Bad habits are bad eggs dea.

Why did I make this as an entire tutorial post? Well, a lot of people make this mistake. I was one of them. I would waste time over engineering my code just because I recently learned about something. Before you start thinking to yourself "man this doesn't show my true programming skill", consider what makes a good programmer. Your ability to problem solve defines how good you are as a programmer. Programming and various languages are just tools in your toolbox. Every single thing you can do in a language are just tools.

If you want to be a good programmer, solve a problem as efficiently as possible. That is your goal as a programmer. Efficiency. You are a problem solver not a damn architect. Just write the damn code haha. In the end, think about it like this:
Lets say you have a nail you need to drive into a piece of wood. You have a few tools you can use. You have a wrench, a shovel, and a hammer. Yes, you could very well use the wrench or the shovel to hammer in that nail... but why? Yeah it gets the same job done, but it is incredibly inefficient and pointless. Just use the hammer.

Thanks for reading. If you didn't know about this yet, hopefully having this knowledge will save you hours of wasted time in the future. Only do what is required. If you need to add onto code later you can do that. But until then, just write the code and get it done.

Did you drop out of high school?

Yes and no. I finished my last year of high school and was promoted to the next grade. However, I decided I want to take my GED so I can focus on other things like getting a job and gaining more experience with programming. So I did not start the next school year.
