To get the ball rolling for shybois:

The First Dawn

Long ago, the world was once a joyous kingdom. All the men and women were at peace and quite content with their surroundings. The children frolicking through the fields that grew so bountiful.  It was always day time, thanks to their incredulous ruler, Sun. Sun was always so warm and inviting. He practically made the townspeople glow with happiness!

However, One day, Sun had an issue. Along the horizon, a dark wall of shadows had rode up to the castle, laying waste to the entire kingdom along the way. Leading the way to the castle wall was a tall, lustrous woman.

“Halt. State your name and surrender your weapons!” The guard at the entrance shouted.

The woman stopped in front of the guard and dismounted her steed. “I am a visitor for the ruler of this kingdom. Step aside.”

The guard hesitantly moved aside and let the militia through, hoping to end all the destruction by following their order.

After riding through the town, the visitor came upon the castle and executed the guards.
The visitor quickly had taken over the castle and had captured Sun and his surviving men. “This kingdom is now under my command!” the visitor exclaimed. “From now on, High Queen Moon will be your ruler! You will never see daylight again! It will be darkness from now on! You will bow to me.”

And with those words, the daylight suddenly vanished. “This is called Night. This will be your new sky. No more will be the bright and warm Day. It will now be cold and dark. Any objections, see my personal executioner.” Moon had preached, voice filled with vigor. None of the townspeople were brave enough to question her authority, so they began to live in this new Night, feeling the cold, bitter air around them, not being able to see far off into the land.

There was always talk about revolting, but not a single person was willing to lead the revolution. Then suddenly, one teenager was courageous enough to stand up to Moon. “I want my day back!” She protested. “And we will not obey your command until we receive it!”

“Well, that’s too bad.” Moon countered. “I no longer have a place to go. I sold my old kingdom for this army, and this has become my new one, until I use up it’s resources and bleed you all dry.” Moon stood up and walked towards the teenager. “What is your name, child?”

The teenager had lost her breath at the touch and tried to regain it. She couldn’t succumb to Moon. The town was too important. Her mission, was too valuable to back down now. “My name is Dawn, and I want my daylight back.”

Moon smiled and silently pondered the bravery of the child in front of her. Surely, she was intelligent as she was courageous. Didn’t she know what was to come?

Moon waved to the guard. “Take her outside, demonstrate what High Queen Moon does to traitors.”

Stunned, the teenager stared at Moon. “Wh….wh….what?”

“You. Are. A. Traitor.” Moon enunciated every word. “You are to be sentenced to execution for betraying the crown. Now, shoo.” At this, the guard moved forward and secured the teen by the arm and pulled her to the front of the castle where the townspeople gathered to hear of her success, however, they soon learn that she wasn’t successful. She was opposite, she had failed.

“I’m sorry, Miss Dawn. But rules are rules.” The guard sympathetically mumbled.

The guard had dropped her to her knees and with one swift and gruesome strike, had decapitated her in the eyes of the entire townspeople. Filled with rage and grief at the death of the beloved teenager, the people had run to her corpse, overtaken the guard, stormed the castle and surrounded Moon.

“High Queen Moon! You will pay for the execution of the Lord Sun’s daughter, Dawn!” the town’s militia captain cried out.

Moon turned pale at those words. “Daughter? I didn’t know, I swear!” She fell silent as the Lord Sun had walked into the room.

“Moon, I will not hold vengeance in my heart towards you for your actions, but I will ask if you return my kingdom to me.” He proclaimed

“But……” Moon mumbled. “But I have no where else to go.”

Sun pondered this for a minute and held a hand out to her “Then we shall share the kingdom, half and half, but only with good intentions.” So, they made the deal and once again, daylight washed over the kingdom. They had settled in a day and night cycle, half the time each. But in between the transition from night to day, there was a dimly lit darkness in the sky. With memory of the far gone teenager, they had called this hopeful scene…

A Dawn.

The One Who Remembers
“See ya tomorrow Johnson” Sam’s boss said to him as he walked out of the museum. Sam only grunted in reply as he brought out his cleaning supplies to begin work. As he cleaned the different messes made by the museum’s visitors that day, he looked at the artifacts. One piece in particular stood out to him, bringing back a memory from nearly four thousand years ago…

“HOLD FAST! WE NOT LET THESE DIRTY BARBARBIANS IN!” Arthulian heard the call to action from within the castle just as he could hear the orders given by the “barbarians”. He looked down on his people, struggling to keep hold of the land he had given them. And they were losing against a people with no military power. Even if those people had asked for help, Arthulian would not have given it.
Perhaps the new people who live on this land will be much more generous in their offerings he thought to himself. Maybe the barbarians would have precious gems never found this side of the Darklands. He watched as the invaders pushed open the gates with a massive heave and began to flow into the castle. Their leader raised his sword and pointed it towards the palace at the center of the keep. I wonder what it is like to fight in a battle like that…
Jamis fought towards the palace with a grimace on his face. At long last, he would finally make these strange people pay for destroying the gift his ancestors had sent them so long ago. Stabbing a man through the chest with a shout, he reached the gates to the keep. No one was inside the keep. Servants would be hiding, and the king who had started it all would be as well. He slashed the paintings on the walls and knocked braziers over. Finally, he came before two massive doors. The throne room. Forcing them open, he saw the ruler sitting on his chair.
“I have been expecting you” the man said meekly, “I expect you have come because of the Winter Bascilla?”
“Of course.” Jamis replied, walking down the carpet slowly.
“Quite a beautiful place… but like all things, its time had come. A symbol for something that does not exist is useless.”
“It is still a symbol. Even if our alliance was over, you could have kept it.”
“And leave a reminder of your traitorous acts for all to remember?” The ruler said with a laugh.
“Remembering is important.” He said. “I do this in remembrance of those that died just building the Winter Bascilla, the architects who went mad designing it, and above all, my ancestors and yours, because I still remember what they did, even if you want to forget.” And with that, Jamis plunged his sword through the heart of the old King.
Arthulian looked down at the city as it was ramshackle by the invaders. He pondered what Jamis had said before he killed that old fool. Serves him right, he thought, not even listening to the god that gave him that land. Swiping his hand, he obscured the vision of the castle far below the heavens. But still, maybe I’d do well to listen as well. I won’t forget you, Randha, the land that once was perfect.

Sam looked away from the tapestry with a start. He looked at the details in it for once, instead of the memory behind it. It showed him in the clouds, staring down at the castle below him as Jamis stabbed poor King Eigma. Randha was long gone, as were those that had taken it. He had decided to become mortal, to hide away from the past. But he couldn’t forget it. He had promised to remember. Maybe it was time for him to stop trying to forget.
