I didn't expect this day to come. I've been here with GFL for 3 years now and I've seen a lot of stuff here. Quite honestly, GFL has become my second family.

 

That just makes it that much worse to realize what a drag I've become on the community. Everywhere I've tried to take a position has not lasted or had success. Don't get me wrong, I love what I do/did for the community. Every spot I had. But that doesn't mean I was a good worker. I've always had work ethic issues and I get distracted very easily. Between GMOD management, to Council, even to Discord and forum moderation. The effort has been inconsistent and the results have been low. Not an excuse, but school and other life reasons have also factored in. I've just been pretty busy on a close to daily basis and it's taking time away from the amount I could spend on GFL.

 

I know I said I was only resigning from management, but I've been reflecting on that and I think it's only best if I leave my position as Forum Mod as well. I need time away from the community if I'm going to come back. Which I guess I have seen a good number of people leave and come back, so I don't know if I will. Maybe. As of right now, the plan is to not come back, or take up any position again. But there's no guaranteeing it'll stay that way, so weh. Take it for what it's worth.

 

Honestly, the biggest reason I'm deciding to do this has just been motivation. It's going away. I poured a lot into the community and I don't feel like I got much out of it. I made a lot of great friends and had a great time, but overall I haven't reached the goals I set for my positions. It's been failure after failure and it's frustrating and wearing me down. Now that I have even less time to spend here, I just can't continue now. My second wind has fallen short and I just can't keep going. I'm sorry to everyone I let down. I'm as frustrated as I'm sure you were.

 

I have new goals. I've been crazy into Overwatch lately and if the stars align I want to one day join the Overwatch League. This is the most drive I've had for anything in a long time. Freeing myself from my positions in GFL also will give me more time to focus on practicing and getting better for that. It'll take a lot, but I've been thinking about it for quite some time now. Any of you who follow OWL, maybe one day you'll see my name on those roster lists. Who knows. I can only hope.

 

I'm going to try to stick around in at least Discord. A lot of you have become my great friends and I don't want to leave any of you. You've all been too nice to me and I'd miss you guys if I left entirely. This was part of why it was so difficult to make the decision to leave in the first place.

Sigh... Your post made me think ahout my own position. As far as being admin goes, I think I've been a poor one on ttt and breach. I don't think I have been active on either in a year or two. Yet I haven't resigned, and I don't know why still even as I try and fail to be active. 

 

But enough about me. You're a cool guy. I wish I was good at overwatch; now I have to follow OWL to see you on it. I'll always remember playing deathrun with you on that family guy map. I hope to still see ya around.

I kept quiet because I hate hurting people's feelings, and I especially didn't want to hurt yours. I also wanted to keep quiet because I knew that you would leave if it were to come to this, which it has. I've talked to Pancake about it and that's why I went to Zebra to see if he could push you to be more active. The main reasons for this have already been stated, I don't like hurting peoples feelings (I'm soft, I know) and as I just said I knew you were going to leave if it came to this. You're leaving thinking you were a complete disappointment and a failure, which you weren't. You took the pressure off my shoulders when I felt that 3 servers was a lot to carry, and that gave me the ability to take it piece by piece. As my co-manager, you were also there for me when I needed you. Though you were unresponsive at times, I think overall you had a positive impact of who I am as a person, at the very least you loosened me up on me being to concerned with "abuse" thing. Though I really didn't want it to come to this, it just seemed there was no way for you to maintain your current life and take care of the server at the same time. I think it's best for you to focus on yourself for now and maybe come back when you have most things sorted out. Maybe summer might be the best time for you, who knows. As for knowledge, you seemed to have an alright amount, not a fuck load but you really don't need a lot to manage. The ability to code isn't a necessity but you do need to know how to fix some errors, but you had me for that, so you were completely excused from the coding aspect of things. Believe it or not there is still a lot I don't know, but I plan on learning a lot more of it. Determination is something you have a fuckload of, believe it or not. It might not all be towards GFL, but think about your life and all the things you are doing right now, Winter. You have a shitload of determination buddy. I don't want you to leave believing that you had nothing to do with the success of murder, because believe it or not, you do. Even with the limited knowledge you have you taught me things I didn't know. Just because I have more knowledge of things overall doesn't mean you can't possibly know things that I don't. For example, look at this code from the murder changlog ulx command:

I had no idea what that meant at first but after testing and experimenting with it, I learned how to use it properly. It allowed me to expand into things like eventually preventing the use of the smokebomb while typing in chat/console, etc with this:

if gui.IsGameUIVisible() or gui.IsConsoleVisible() or LocalPlayer():IsTyping() then return end

Believe it or not I doubt I would've ended up testing with gui stuff had it not been for seeing it in your code above. So yeah, you do have knowledge, and without me seeing that my code might look a lot different than it currently does.

You did help in the success of murder, don't doubt that. While I'm not sure what @Pancake Jenkins role will be in murder, that will be decided with due time. At the time being it'll have to wait. And while managing might not be your strong-suit, you will one day find something that is the perfect fit for you. Just give it time.

I want you to at least re-visit murder, maybe in a few months. And I will miss you, believe it or not.

 

I also felt the need to say this, I basically back-stabbed you during this whole thing, by going behind your back and talking to Zebra instead of addressing the problem to you and being unproductive with the situation. Communication is clearly something I'll have to work on, even if it's something that could hurt someones feelings, sometimes I need to fucking speak up, and hopefully I'll learn that one day. I'm sorry for betraying you like this, but I could've just not mentioned this completely, but it just wouldn't be the right thing to do. If you want someone to be mad at for your demotion, then be mad at me, because I've done a lot more against you than I have with you. Writing it means nothing, but I'm sorry. Please, don't think negative about your managing experience with murder. You are not a failure, you didn't fail. I failed you.
