[Announcement] Council Meetings

Recommended Posts

Hi, all.

I am excited to announce our first public Council meeting which will take place on Sunday, September 6 at 11:30 AM Eastern Time on our main Discord server under the Council category which will be made visible shortly before the meeting. If you have an opinion about a topic on the agenda, are considering applying for Community Representative, or just curious about what Council is up to, then I'll definitely recommend attending!

You can see the agenda and let us know if you wish to attend by going to this event in the community calendar:

We are still sorting out the final practical details so I recommend marking yourself as going if you wish to observe since I'll then be able to reach out if we make any changes to the format. As with many other things at the moment, this will be a trial run for the concept, and we will use the experience to create guidelines for future meetings.

As always, feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Keep in mind that 3 out of the 7 current Council members are European, that's why the time is what it is. This is also something to keep in mind for anyone applying for CR.

Thank you Nick for this! I’m going to be sure to check it out. Loving the new wave of transparency from GFL. Exciting news for future projects/prospects/partnerships!

While I was more involved I was a US citizen studying in the UK so balancing these naturally worked out for me because I'd be more interested being online during odd hours to talk to friends and family, but normal hours for me were aligned with EU; I was not sleeping well because I'm an engineering student :( I would say on a typical day I sleep 4-5 hours, and no, it's not okay for me and I'm frequently tired.

Do you guys have plans on how to minimize this natural exclusion?  It's certainly at no fault of your own, but it is a problem.  I think this will be straining on Community Representatives you have suggested it's something for them to think about, and I certainly wouldn't want to worry or care about at it all if I were applying for a temporary role that threw me into possibly nasty political scene.

Will it simply be posting notes?  Maybe not just notes, but forward the topics into threads and leave a window of opportunity for people who missed the live event to say something.

Something else that's concerning to me is that it feels a lot like this structure is very focused on making decisions; it feels like it's missing that real community aspect of it where people are actually working on something or doing something.  Is it more important that you have the person that says "Yes, let's have weekly game nights on Discord" or do you prefer the "I'll host weekly game nights on Discord".  I feel like this decision focus is more interested in the first person rather than the second person, but if there's no second person to host the events, then the decisions mean nothing.

Wowwww. It only makes sense if majority of the applicants were from another timezone 😆 But hopefully it goes through to that meeting. I do sleep late but still wowwwww.

I'm glad to hear that us (non staff) members are able to attend this meeting. Although we don't have a say in what goes on in these meetings I feel its important for us (admins at least) to keep updated in the ongoing in the GFL Clan as far certain topics. Hopefully there will be more of these meetings in the future with times that work around all of our schedules. See you on the 6th.

The meeting will take place on our main Discord server in channels under the Council category which will be made visible shortly before the meeting. I'm looking forward to seeing all of you. 😄

@vL_Billionaire, I am happy to hear that you like the concept! I believe a lot of great can come out of this. 😄 I do want to note that observers can request the word and voice their opinions during the meeting, but they will not be able to vote or be as prioritized as members of the Council.

What about the results?

edit:

Ah, I see.  Have to dig a bit for it (yesterday's).  I would recommend a thread that's easy to get to so people don't have to look.  You'll be much more effective in communicating with the community.

Yeah, we link it for everyone to see in the main Discord when the meeting starts. Though I suppose people that couldn't attend would have difficulty in finding it.  I've went ahead and made a thread and posted the two we've had thus far, we'll update that going forward.
