Baconator 172 / 5,293 Report Post Posted August 10, 2021 Hello my friends! For those of you who don't know me I was a global Server Manager for the Rust division. A lot has happened in the past 24 hours and the purpose of this post is not to spur anymore drama. There will be screenshots of some things, HOWEVER it is purely for explanation rather than drama. Some of this may sound as repeat and I apologize for that in advance, however as most of the explanation has been in DM's on discord, I think it would be more beneficial, both for Rust staff and GFL, if everything can be explained with reason and not drama. Hopefully by the end of this we all may have a better understanding and could fix some issues should GFL try a Rust division again. This is in no way an attempt to place blame on anyone. I'll begin from yesterday when the Division got shut down: Quite frankly I was heartbroken. I had a feeling it could happen, however I thought maybe we will get one last chance. Unfortunately we weren't, and believe me I fought in managers chat to try and keep it alive, but to no avail. Soon after the announcement all hell broke loose. There was a lot going on, a lot being said and no one knew what was true or false. I fell into that category as well, I was confused, sad and quite frankly a little angry. I had to say goodbye to, in my honest opinion, the greatest Rust staff team since I joined. (I'd like to personally thank @Infra for keeping the Rust Internal discord up for a little time after so we could finish saying bye). Based on the community feedback, albeit some bad responses, anyone could tell that we were still very passionate and thought it could have survived. This is where everything blended together and it seemed like there were 2 sides fighting each other. Again, this is in no way to blame anyone or to cause any drama, just an explanation. Point 1: One of the biggest outcries was that people felt like Rust was alone. This was...the truth(ish) from OUR perspective. In reality we could always DM a higherup, however certain events in the past were the cause of this outcry. This was a long time in the making and stretched back to April. During April (I love him to death don't get me wrong) but we had a DL who was busy. Throughout this time the division starting slipping through his fingers and issues that needed to be fixed took longer than should have. This resulted in us talking to some higherups on the issue. The responses from the higherups were one of the causes of the "feeling of being alone" as it *sounded* like they didn't really care. This may 100% not have been their intention, however like I said I just want to explain rather than cause drama. (The screenshots below are some of the reasons why we felt alone, however I have altered them in a way so that nothing too important gets leaked and not to place blame): Explanation (not intended for drama) for the above: This was a time in the Rust division where tensions were high. We as Server Managers felt like we weren't getting help from our Division Leader in, well, leading the division and making sure it succeeds. This is the reason we turned our attention to these Council Members in order to try and sort it out. The responses we got (In the first screenshot I did get a response which I was absolutely ecstatic about, the main reason it is posted is to emphasize how it could seem like we were ignored) were extremely concerning. It made us feel like we were alone to deal with this issue, which at the time was a major issue. During this time is when Rust really started going downhill and for the first time since I joined, even I felt alone. We did eventually pull ourselves together however I believe this experience forever tinted the relationship between Division and Higherups. There were some other instances however some of them I feel may cause drama, and I want to avoid that 🙂 Moving forward: I believe that a Rust division could flourish under GFL, it will just take work. There are issues that need to be ironed out such as communication. The lag I am extremely proud to have been able to start working on it (all thanks to @Aurora) as that has been one of the silent killers of our Rust servers. If we can connect the division and the higherups to feel confident and safe to express concerns and/or issues when they come up and have a conversation about it, the only way is up. It was a hell of a ride and I am extremely grateful to have been in a position that I enjoyed. If a Rust division ever gets brought back, shoot me a message and (under specific circumstances) I may gladly want to come back. Thank you to all the players of Rust, you are the ones who made all this possible and made staffing so fun. Again, this is not to cause drama or place any blame, it is just an explanation of our POV. If anyone has any questions I will try to answer them, peace!

Andre 10 / 387 Report Post Posted August 10, 2021 Always been a pleasure. Always appreciated your presence. Even though the division is gone, I'm glad to say you among others I have walked away being friends with rather than walking away with only disappointment. The disappointment of this whole situation is still there. But so are the friends.
