An Update on My Father’s Health and Another GoFundMe

Recommended Posts

Hello, GFL. You may know me as a CS:GO Surf Head Admin, but you may remember me more as the guy who put up a GoFundMe a little while back because my father and I hadn't been doing too well. I regret deeply to say that this situation has come back to us.

My father has been having heart issues for a little while now and his overall health has worsened over time. Because of this, it is essentially impossible for him to drive for 90 minutes to and from his job every day he works in order to keep our money up. I myself have been looking for any type of job for roughly 6 months at this point, but have not had any luck. I now need to figure out a way where I can find a job and bring in some money to help us while also having time for all of my college needs, but in about 2 days, our rent is due, and we cannot afford it under current circumstances.

So, as a result of this, we had to throw up another GoFundMe. This really isn't something I wanted to have happen, and ~6-7 months between these is a very bad look, but I have absolutely no other choice. This is a final resort. I have no other options to try and be able to sustain our way of living right now other than this. I really didn't want to put this anywhere near my friends, school, or especially GFL, cause I really feel guilty and ashamed to have to try and seek help from the generous and amazing GFL community after I had to about 6-7 months ago, but I must try to get any help I can now.

Please, if you can, any donations or shares would be immensely appreciated and helpful to us as we try to keep a roof over our heads. Any excess donations past our set goal if made will 100% go towards bills, food, and more rent for later months. I will keep updating everyone on our situation as it progresses, but as of right now, we are at the lowest of lows. I love the GFL community, and I apologize deeply for having to do this again. Thank you for reading, and keep us in your thoughts. Godspeed to you all.

For a little background, I had to do this a little while ago due to my dad having other health issues, found here;

and I am immensely grateful for what GFL has done for us and myself in the almost 3 years I have been a part of it. Thanks to everyone, we were able to keep our apartment and sustain ourselves for a while longer as my father's health had seemed to improved. However, this seemed to not last as long as I wish it had, because it slowly started getting worse with his heart and age. Now, we are unfortunately back in these circumstances, and I have been working to try and find a job and help us try to sustain a living if I can, but I have come up short and I take full responsibility for failing to do so. I need time and a roof over my head in order to figure out what I can do next. So please, help me get there once more.

Hey, GFL. It's been a little while since we threw this up and I was waiting for the school week to end before I threw up an update.

So, as of right now, we have about $2,100 in donations. I would first like to thank every donator and sharer or our GoFundMe and say that we both appreciate it more than you could ever know. I would also like to give a very special shoutout to @Stirdu, who donated $1,000 to our cause. We really appreciate the massive support given by everyone and as of now we have got rent and some other bills paid.

However, I have been informed today that our electric bill is due, so we need a little more help if possible. For transparency, our goal is set at $4,000 in order for us to attempt to get rent and other bills paid for enough time to get back on our feet, and we have reached a little more than 50% of that goal. So all-in-all, we are still in our apartment and doing okay, but we are seeking as much as we need in this time.

On a serious personal note though, I haven't seen my dad in this bad of health in an extremely long time. It's really stressing me out, and I don't like to think about what he may be feeling like. I've only ever seen him at this bad of a health level maybe twice. I did have to take him to the emergency room a couple months ago for pain in the chest, and I assume that whatever the issue was then has creeped back up on him worse than it had before. Unfortunately, when he was there they weren't able to pinpoint the exact issue, so for a while we didn't really know what it was. I assume he found out it was arterial blockage a little while after that. He also told me while we were there that he has had that chest pain for a few years now, but it is getting worse. He was able to get a consult with a cardiologist on Thursday, but since it was just a consult, no treatment was given. But, I do believe it is a step in the right direction. Thank you all for your amazing generosity, and please keep us in your thoughts as we try to get out of this.

Hey GFL, it's been a while since I have put up an update because of school and us being really unsure what's going on.
Since this is most likely going to be extremely long, I will give a TL;DR.

TL;DR: Things have gotten so much worse and we need more help.

So, to start this off I want to say that I am sorry for not putting up an update here sooner, but this situation is really affecting me negatively and with finals next week, I really need to focus on that. But besides that, here's the gist.

My dad went to a vascular specialist in order to get checked to see what the hell is going on. His arteries that allow blood flow to his legs are extremely narrow, and because of this he really can't walk around for more than 30 seconds without his legs giving out on him. They said that it can be fixed without major surgery by placing a stint there and inflating it in order to help the flow, which is really good news.

But, that wasn't the only thing they found.

The main thing that is now the primary concern is apparently a very large mass on his right kidney. We don't know if it is benign or malignant, but the specialist told him that they have seen a lot of them and they are about 85% of the time malignant. This really shocked him, and has put him in a really bad state mentally and physically. He has an appointment on Monday in order to see what is going on. I will update on this hopefully the same day, but if not, finals probably got to me.

Another thing that has showed up is a relatively big knot on his arm between where his arm and should meet. From what I have seen, any pressure on it causes severe pain, so he is basically down 1 arm and both legs. So, as you may be able to infer, we need more help.

I'm really scared, because he is in a very bad state, and finances are just tanking so hard. For one example, his truck payment is due, and he can't pay it as of now, which is very important because without a mode of transportation, he can't even get to where he needs to be to get help. So once again, I must ask for help.

Some context to the financial issues is with Tesla's insurance company, Sedgwick. So essentially, he was supposed to get paid for about 2 months of time that he was disabled. Around the range of October 1 to November 22. They basically said screw you, and decided to only give him pay from NOVEMBER 22ND until the day he is "supposed" to be back, which is DECEMBER 15TH. So, they screwed us over very hard and now we don't know what we can do. There is no possible way he will be able to return to work on December 15th, and yet, that is the date they put down for him. He requested an extension, but we haven't heard back yet. The date of December 15th, by the way, was basically pulled out of nowhere from HR. So they double-screwed us. So this has all taken us by surprise, and I just need college finals over so I can find a job and try to go part-time in college to help do said job.

In better news, though, I was able to get a total of $1,750 from my college's emergency grant funds, so that has helped us tremendously, but it still will not be enough.

Please help us. If you have any people you may be able to share this with, please do so. We are really scared, and we don't now what is going to happen this month. But please, at least keep us in your prayers. Thank you, and have a great day/night.

So I'll just be blunt at this point. I'm going to just update this thread whenever I feel like we have enough info to warrant a decent update here since the GoFundMe has an update feature itself.

The mass they found on my dad's kidney is malignant. It has apparently found it's way into the passage to his bladder, so they are going to have to remove it completely. Luckily though, it doesn't seem to have spread anywhere else, so if they get it removed rather quickly we could be in a lot better of a scenario.

About his legs, the blood flow to them both has been estimated to be cut around 80% in total. So, he has to get a procedure done with a stint to get them fixed. He has the procedure scheduled for the 3rd, and I'll be able to help him out since college starts back up later on the 8th. It's an out-patient procedure, so if everything goes well, he should be able to walk out of there same day, which is amazing news.

The "knot" on his arm is actually a fatty tumor, and it's causing him so much pain because it's hitting a nerve. He has to get that surgically removed at some point as well.

So basically, we're getting his legs fixed, but the other two procedures will have to be done at some point down the road. I will post an update here after his leg procedure if I can same day, but if not it will be next day.

With all the help we have received from GFL, you guys deserve to be in the loop, and I promise to keep you guys there. Thank you all, and I hope you all had a merry Christmas and/or happy holidays! Let's head into 2024!
