can someone tell me please what kind of secrets are needed to be kept on a fast dl aka this http://fastdl.gflclan.com/ in which the whole concept behind a fast dl and it's uses is for it to be public I never even thought of taking this old idea to make this private in any serious context and I thought it would never happen as it was something I looked at as a joke and would never effect our servers but please revert this to make it public once more because making a fast dl private you may aswell just not have a fast dl and just download off steam. the whole point of a fast dl is for it to be public this is a meme that has been made a reality who ever made a fast dl private and you gotta be joking or something also what are you trying to protect what is to stop me from connecting to your server going into my files then uploading from there?

 

If something makes no sense why in the world would someone go through with something on this level of stupid?

I am sorry but this is something that of which gets rid of so many points to even have a fast dl...

 

 

TL:DR why should a fast dl not be private? 1 it makes many unable to use it in any form and gets rid of most technical aid that could be done if it is public

2 if someone else is using something with your name on it and uploading things free advertisement hello?

3 which can be used to solve number 2 restrict those who can upload to said fast dl and all your worries are gone.

4 a fast dl serves almost no point being private.

5 you guys hurt my head please stop

I am an open source believer but ik what you mean there and even then I still believe the pros outweigh the cons as the issue of that is more so the fact that you could just log into a server download said content look in the files then upload it correct me if I am wrong though.

The reason why it's private is that other servers will use it as the fastdl site, which steals the bandwidth, which also can increase the price up for the usage. Better to be safe than having it up to the public. That is unless I'm wrong.

If you need to download maps before joining the server, you could just look up the name of the map and input the correct url to download it.

 

For example, http://fastdl.gflclan.com/csgo/maps/ze_FFVII_Mako_Reactor_v5_3_v5.bsp.bz2

Just take url  http://fastdl.gflclan.com/csgo/maps/ and add the map name with the compressed extension name of .bz2.

Yeah, with the download url private, it is just harder to search maps to download.

meh I figured out the reason last night also we never have payed for bandwidth for the fast dl, fyi you guys really need to be public about more then a few things example 1

this one anyways I found out the fast dl is just being redone and that is kind of a temp side effect that I'm guessing could be fixed later.

 

anyways take care just fix this when you can also please guys make things public that help your case at least, ty and take care.

in my eyes it's just more ease of access when people can browse files but as the person said above the whole concept of making this private I addressed how flawed it was in my op.
