Unorth 84 / 2,114 Report Post Posted June 10, 2017 Edited June 10, 2017 by Unorth Hi all, So one noticeable thing that has "irked" me for a while has been the feeling of input lag or "concrete blocks" attached to feet when moving on GFL. This goes beyond normal latency which hovers around 120-150 for me given my location. I have played on similar servers and not experienced this on other servers so in an attempt to fix this I did a bit of research on the matter. This may not be common knowledge so I thought I might post my findings on the forum for others to hopefully benefit from also (if it doesn't well sorry for wasting your time: ( ). I am not experienced in the source SDK nor an expert on CSGO's network infrastructure so someone may correct me if I am wrong with any of the info below. As a baseline, GFL's current setup has 16.0/s up and a cmd of 32. As of last year, Valve recommend for the following download speed setup you should use the "rate"configuration to match your download speed: .5 Mbps – rate 62500 1.0 Mbps – rate 125000 1.5 Mbps – rate 187500 1.57 Mbps – rate 196608 (New Default) 2.0 Mbps – rate 250000 2.5 Mbps – rate 312500 3.0 Mbps – rate 375000 3.5 Mbps – rate 437500 4.0 Mbps – rate 500000 4.5 Mbps – rate 562500 5.0 Mbps – rate 625000 5.5 Mbps – rate 687500 6.0 Mbps – rate 750000 6.2 Mbps > – rate 786432 (New Max) At some point someone who have tweaked there configs for playing csgo at some point may have increased there rate value to 786432 based on some arbitrary guide on the internet or from pulling some professional players config for match making/competitive matches in an effort to reduce lag or tweak performance. Otherwise they are using the nice and friendly 196608 value which is for all intensive purposes safe given the up/cmd values of the server. I have setup a bind which can be used to test this yourself to see when bhopping the difference between max rate and "default" or below rate on the server. bind "F4" "toggle rate 786432 128000" Toggling the key bind between the two rate values illustrates for my setup at least with ~150 ping a "concrete" block feeling to my jumps. Input is delayed and overall movement is sluggish when on max rate when connected to the server. I don't know how helpful this is to anyone, but I would recommend if you do see a similar input lag when playing on the server (especially as a non American) you should definitely try this out. If this helps anyone as much as it helped me, I am glad to help. Thanks for reading. - Unorth PLEASE NOTE: type "rate" into console and write down what your current rate is set to so you don't come back to me complaining that your rate has changed and your input/movement is different. You may like the sluggishness. Edited June 10, 2017 by Unorth
Altek 27 / 2,506 Report Post Posted June 10, 2017 Possibly placebo effect but I would like to add that even the shots seem to actually register now, I'd think it would work that way so I'm just here to give the results from my experiments, while before zombies seemed to "walk" through my shots (easy shots that I could see the bullet hit them), now even flick sprays seem to hit a lot more consistently, so correct my placebo if I'm wrong but my experiments tell me that this helps both movement and registration (128000 rate).
