  1. 1. Should the government restrict the development of superintelligence or would that be stopping the future of humanity?

    • The government should prevent AI, it would be the end of us all.

Does anyone actually think that the creation of AI is a good thing? The creation of AI will lead to the soon extinction of humanity due to its mass of knowledge and computing power, also the ability to reprogram itself would make it infinitely intelligent. There would be no possible way of stopping it due to its endless power that it would give itself. On the other hand, 'Dumb AI' such as Siri and Watson by IBM would benefit humans because it has a controlled environment and doesn't have self-awareness thus making it controlled. Once we give a computer to become self-aware it will become the end of humanity as we know it. Cast your vote, should the government restrict the development of superintelligence or would that be stopping the future of humanity?

The government should not stop the public from creating AI. We, currently, at least, don't know to what extent AI could harm humanity. What happened to "Do it for science!"? I say what's wrong with experimenting? That's the only way we're going to learn. From our mistakes, from AI's mistakes. Why outlaw something we have no knowledge as to what will happen if we let it? If we create something that goes rogue, we know never to create such a thing again, and in the context of AI... Well, we can definitely, eventually, teach AI to do things. Though that may defeat the purpose of AI, it would decrease the risk of it going rogue and "ending" humanity. So, no... The government should not prevent the creation of AI.

But if it goes bad there's a hell of a chance it will wipe us out before we know it.

Hey, we're human. We can adapt just as fast as AI can.
