What are Forum Points?

Forum Points are an indicator of public Forum activity and popularity. In comparision to Forum Reputation which is simply the amount of likes that user has received; Forum Points are much more holistic, read on to see how to give and receive them!

Forum Points conditions:

For General Forum Activity:

• When you like a post, you gain 1 point.
• When another user likes a post of yours, you gain 5 points.
• When you follow someone, you gain 1 point.
• When you gain a follower, you gain 10 points.
• When you create a topic or post, you gain 3 points.
• When another user posts on a topic you created, you gain 1 point.
• When you vote in a poll, you gain 2 points.
• When another user votes in a poll you created, you gain 1 point.
• When you follow a topic, you gain 3 point.
• When another user follows a topic you created, you gain 1 point.
• When you sign in (once per day) you gain 5 points.
• When you RSVP to an event, you gain 3 points.
• When someone RSVPs to your event, you gain 1 point.
• When a content item you create becomes promoted, you gain 10 points.

For Milestones:

• When you gain a follower milestone badge, you gain 100n points (a total of 1000 points if you have all 4).
• When you gain a like milestone badge, you gain 100n points (a total of 1000 points if you have all 4).
• When you gain a years registered milestone badge, you gain 100n points (a total of 2100 points if you have all 6).
• When you gain a days concurrently signed in badge, you gain 100n points (a total of 1000 points if you have all 4).

100n means you gain 100, then 200, then 300, then 400, etc. points for each milestone badge you get within a certain category - there are at least 4 in each category right now.

In addition to Forum points there are also Forum ranks, the ranks and current (07/01/2023) distribution are as follows:

• Newbie (0 points) - 15,434 members
• Newcomer (100 points) - 18,033 members
• Novice (500 points) - 7,130 members
• Journeyman (1000 points) - 25,359 members
• Competent (2500 points) - 361 members
• Proficient (5000 points) - 56 members
• Expert (7500 points) - 27 members
• Stellar (10000 points) - 21 members
• Prodigy (12500 points) - 9 members
• Supreme (15000 points) - 19 members
• Outstanding (20000 points) - 4 members
• Maven (25000 points) - 5 members
• Virtuoso (30000 points) - 4 members
• Oracle (40000 points) - 3 members

If you're curious, the (not banned) "user" with the most points is actually... GFLBot.

I need to make it so that GFLBot can't get points. In fact, I'm going to make a group that sets points to 0 permanently; and that group will also be given to people who break rules to try and get more points (reputation abuse, for example). The 0 points of shame.

I may keep both displayed. I may make it a setting where people can decide what they see in author panels, just as people can decide to hide all signatures, or awards (kind of, that one is a little busted right now). By default I may leave everything turned on then leave it up to the user.

 

I like allowing individuals to choose, but, at the same time can't be having too much bloat!

I'm curios: why are they represented / called Lemon Points? I feel like pulling a Celeste and using Strawberries would be much cooler 😎

Has it been considered to change the icon based on how many points one has? Start off with Lemons, once you reach 10k use limes, 25k pineapples, 50k strawberries, etc?

Looking forward to seeing how this system is fleshed out.

I named them Lemon points for now as it's very easy for me to ctrl+f "lemon" in IPS' template editor and VSCode. Also because it's a bit of fun. Once I'm done being silly, they're just going to be called "Forum Points". I do not plan on naming points different things dependant on how many a user has, instead giving them ranks dependant on how many the user has.

 

The default rank system is: Newbie -> Rookie -> Apprentice -> Explorer -> Enthusiast -> Collaborator - > Community Regular -> Rising Star -> Proficient -> Mentor -> Veteran -> Grand Master. I might just steal that while changing up the amount of points required at each stage as well as the graphics. Ranks... as with most new things... are a little busted right now though due to our messy setup.
