skell 50 / 2,188 Report Post Posted November 14, 2017 Edited November 14, 2017 by skell On 11/12/2017 at 3:31 PM, Bae said: Many of you are wondering why you comments are hidden; which means your votes are revoked and you cannot comment again because I already talk to Dan. He's going to ask you guys to recomment, I'm pretty sure. But once your comments/votes are revoked, you can no longer comment again for your reasons for this voting period. This is the last chance for Dan and his groupies; I have already warned them previously. If you're new and you didn't know, that's too bad because Dan should've told you when he asked you guys to vote. As for the other voters, I'll be quoting you individually to ask you to clarify your reasons. @skell Can you explain what you mean by vibe? For example, the theme here is Fall. So how is his fall picture involved vibe better than the others? oh okay, apparently you're the only one. Finally, if you guys don't know what constructive criticism means, I'd suggest you search it up. It doesn't just mean to give one word or one sentence of explaining how Dan is your dad. I don't care if he's your dad, I care about the reasoning of why Dan's Fall image is better than the other participants. You have to explain in details of why his is better. The matter of fact that this is a Photography contest while subcategory is Fall. The things you need to explain whether in order or all of them (don't have to be all, just some that can explain). Exposure Composition Background Focus General technical Quality Impact But these main photography critics must also applied to the subcategory of Fall. And this ends my comment. New voters can still continued voting but please follow the rules of AOTM. One side note: If you do not wish to end up with what happen to Kenny few months back during voting period, I'd suggest you to follow the rules and don't argue or fight. Any arguments after this will be hidden. @Bae I don't know how to explain it differently. I think vibe (I speak ghetto bruh, I dont speak no standard english) explained it well as it just has the right colors (imo fall has orange, green and red) to fit the theme, I didnt vote dan btw I just said I thought @Gekkota had a better picture, because of the vibe. also dan did not ask me to vote for him he just asked to vote for the thing, cuz ppl werent participating. I did so by voting for Gekkota because I liked his better. Edited November 14, 2017 by skell
Sleazoid 201 / 4,175 Report Post Posted November 14, 2017 Edited November 14, 2017 by Sleazoid Ok, so here's a little advice to some people in this thread who may or may not be heavily involved in the contests. First off, let me introduce myself, my name is Gabriel, I am a PROFESSIONAL artist. I make things out of steel and fine metals to sell to people either by custom order, or by auction. I know a bit about the art world, my college education, and my adult life has been consumed by it to the point that my soul cries when I realize I will never go back to being a normal human. If anyone actually doubts me on this, contact me and I can send you examples of my work, or direct you to a thread that includes some of my work. With that said, I have the ability to view comments that are hidden. I see every post in here and I am honestly disappointed in some of you. Have you ever been to an art exhibition? Have you ever been to an actual critique in which artists come together and criticize each others work? For example, one of the posts; "has to be @transperoman. The deer invokes a feeling of fear and suprise moving me emotionally. 10/10" Hidden because "does not include constructive criticism" The fact that this post was hidden is laughable. Does it break down the photography and provide pros and cons? no. However, the poster is clearly providing his own viewpoint on the photo, and emotion within. When you go to an art exhibition in which an artist puts his work out for the rest of the community to view/experience there is commonly a stand with a notebook and pen for the participants to write down their thoughts/suggestions/criticisms etc. Never once have I ever seen someone standing over the book with an eraser or whiteout to edit out anything that does not suit the people overseeing the project. And as far as bringing people in to vote and advertising the contest goes, that is clearly not against the rules. Also a bit of advice when it comes to being an artist in the real world, that is a skill you will need. When you start out, no one knows you, no one cares who you are. I have bid on my own items at auctions before to make sure the price went up to a price that is deserving of the amount of materials and work I put into it. I have had friends that I have recruited myself put out recommendations that have gotten me into galleries and auctions I would have otherwise not have been involved in. Just think about some of that and reflect. I am not going to respond to anyone who objects my opinions, they're just that; my opinion. I won't get involved in petty forum drama. Just wanted to put my voice out there. Now, here is some constructive criticism so this post will not be hidden. criticism isn't about winning, it's about growing. #1. The composition is interesting. I like the surprised look of the younger deer as it looks towards the viewer. I would have liked to see a sharper image, perhaps with more of the scenery involved. #2. This picture is calming, and reminds me of my own area. The streak of red leaves on the right side catches the eye, and the person in the picture implicates thought and reflection. More leaves like the streak in the top right corner would have made more of an impact in my opinion. #3. The shadows, low light and dead vegetation is very "fall-like". Like #1 I would have liked to have seen a sharper image with less blur, or perhaps a focal point that comes into contrast, like the second gutter #4. I really like this picture. The winding road (or perhaps driveway) makes you wonder where this leads to, Lots of fall colors. The white house on the right side seems to draw the eye to it though, and takes away the impact of the vegetation and road. #5. I really like the focal point/blur of the closest leaves and the background. The colors really pop out, and the rest of the picture lacking the red/yellows. I really find it hard to find anything negative to say about this picture, only that the blur may be a bit too strong. This will receive my vote.
