What is happening?

What is happening with the surf servers? or maybe a better question would be, is anything being done with the surf servers?. as someone who plays on surf regularly i dont see anything being done to this clearly Dying server. i was hoping someone could give me and other people who are dedicated to these servers, Neo the manager doesnt seem to be interested anymore. i could be wrong and their could be an explanation for the 'Inactiveness' but from my point of view it seems to be that everyone is just letting it die and not bothered at all about it. Certain small things in game have been broke for quite awhile now and granted i dont know alot about the fix but it doesnt seem like it would take this long if people actually cared about it...just my opinion and im sure others have theirs.

Was hoping to get some sort of 'answers' or something along the lines of an explaination.

Looking forward to some changes on the surf servers as well. It would be really sad to see them die off like this.

The main reason in my opinion for people leaving is the poor performance of the servers. Considering how big of a community GFL is, it seems weird that we cant a few solid surf servers to run, when we got so many others well running servers across multiple games.

There are a few things that have resulted in this current state that should be fixed.

 

1. Straight up neglection from the higher ups. For me it doesnt make any sense how six empty servers can be anywhere near a good sign. Now i know that there has been a few peaks with population, but in general three of the servers have been empty and the other three have been with max 10 people playing pr. server. Considering that we a year ago had four full servers this is a sad development and somewhat impressive that so many servers can be neglected like that. Honestly think the servers need a fresh start, this would include: Remove all current admins (active and non active) and get some new, meticulous, and highly motivated staff. Remove 2-4 of the servers so we have less to focus on, and maybe use the money saved to buy a custom timer like the bhopservers have.

2. The lack of communication between the server staff and the forums. Even though several posts have been made to adress these issues, i feel like the majority of the active players and staff from surf timer barely use the forums which is a shame. Hopefully can a new staff team get this communication to work better than previous...

We're working on re-vamping the surf servers entirely. We'll be adding a new manager, we just need someone qualified or having the will to do it, we'll also be lowering the servers to 1 US and 1 EU and possibly add new admins to hopefully help population by bringing the players together. If any current surf admins would like to know about the manager position, with suggestions or to see if they can qualify, please notify Myself and @HackingPotato in a pm on forums.

@Deltacommander Thanks for the info, but can i ask if this were to happen which servers would stay? 1-2 1-3 1-4? because i cant imagine the more experienced surfers would find GFL very 'entertaining' for them if it was a 1-2 only server.

The maps would probably be on rotation going from 1-2 to 1-3 to 1-4 throughout the day or they could just vote for them at any time, or after the server's population comes back up we could add back the servers were removed.

Sry, but could i 'request' something?, could the people that are trying to make these changes happen communicate with the current and recent surf 'regulars' and get their imput on what they think the server could work on, and possible 'new' Staff/Manager(s), the only reason i say this is because i cant really see someone that has never even surfed before or never been on the server be benificial in anyway.

just my opinion and i think i speak for a few others when i say this.

I have already linked Deltacommander to a google docs some of the staff members made a while ago with ideas, you can always pm me for the link if you want it. Other than that just do as Delta wrote and pm him or potato if you want information. Im sure they would happily replay

Excuse the late reply, but I believe we've found an effective and supported manager that should help the servers significantly. We've also decided to keep the 6 servers unless the new manager requests us to lower it, so that it's not over cumbersome for them, we'll be showing them the list of stated issues that I was given by @Berg to start the rebuilding process. If you have any questions feel free to pm myself and or @HackingPotato.

I agree with @TomRiddle on this one, i think the managers and staff should be people who have been on a surf server before, and auctually play surf

The auto chat pops ups are out of control. They pop up every 30 seconds, thats way way to much. I don't need to hear about the b hop server in chat if i'm surfing, if i wanted to bhop i would be bhopping not surfing. Most new people to the server don't know how to hide chat, so it's pretty annoying having a porn site full of pop ups in the chat.

so out of all the things u could of made a complaint about, the advertisements stood out to you the most?

Nah it's just annoying is what im saying, the most notable thing you guys do is your admins are toxic as fuck. They're mad 24/7 and if you complain, we get nothing but a fuck you, and have a nice day. The admins themselves destroyed this community, I know it's not all the admins, but it's a lot of them.

I believe we had a talk about it, i don't remember saying or even pointing to a "fuck you, and have a nice day" , i specifically stated that the pop-ups are not a priority among the much bigger issues that surf timer servers have right now, but i'm sure they can be looked in to eventually, if it's even seen necessary, you might have taken it in a wrong way. I do agree with you to a certain point, yes there are a lot of chat pop-ups, but they're making newer people aware that GFL has other servers aswell than just our surf server.
