[08-09-2017] [CSGO] What happens next... Surf Downtime, Expansions, and Hitlist

Good Afternoon/morning members of GFL,

 

Counter-Strike: GO is one of biggest divisions within this community and has one of the biggest staff teams that help keep it afloat. The staff put countless hours into creating and running our servers to give the best experience possible, to you, the players. However, transparency has always been a problem in our community. The players have a right to know what is happening behind the scene and deserve to have a say in the changes that apply to their server. For this reason, this thread will be explaining our future plans for the servers but will not completely commence without majority consensus.

 

The Hitlist

 

@Roy, @Deltacommander and I have a list of servers that we believe would be in our best interest to remove. The servers on the Hitlist are as follows;

 

• Minigames (US)
• Zombie Mod (EU)
• Free for All Deathmatch (FFA) 24/7 Dust 2
• Deathrun (US)

 

If you are a manager or a admin for any of these servers and you believe that your server deserves to get off the hitlist, please let us know below with an explanation on why you think it should stay up.

 

Server Revamp/Updates

 

Surf

Today I am excited to announce that @Roy and I will be extending our efforts and resources into revamping our surf servers. Our plan is to cut the majority of the servers, with the exception of two. These two servers will be identical however, the locations will be different. One server will be located in North America and the other will be located in Europe. Both servers will have a variety of tiered maps, this way we can gain new players and still keep our experienced regulars.

 

With this said, as @Roy and myself work on this project, we will be closing all servers with the exception of Surf EU tier 1-2, which will remain open until the server is built. This server will remain open because of its consistent population. The manager, @Zynth, has given us some suggestions on content but more suggestions are welcomed!

Surf RPG Deathmatch

With the resignation of Johaw, the surf RPG servers have been struggling in keeping population. @Sleazoid has contacted me that he interested in taking on RPG and has shared some of his plans with me. Resets will be every 3 months, the first will be July 20th. I have high hopes for this server and know many players are looking forward to the upcoming grind. Excited to see the results and hope to see more players on!

 

UPDATE:  The server reset has brought may old and new players and has shown to be very effective. Well done @Sleazoid! Keep up the great work!

 

Expansions

 

Expansion of new servers is always an exciting process, but I believe it is for the best that this process slows down for now until all of our servers are stable with active management and administration. We have many exciting game-modes to try out so be on the lookout for a new servers in the far future.

This is a very interesting update.

 

As for the expansions part, I know it will be taken easy, but do you have anything in mind for future servers?

 

Edit: I'm not sure if it's been mentioned before that some of the servers have been crashing lately, what's the possible cause of this issue?

Once I setup the new OVH GS machine for Europe (hopefully tomorrow or the next day), we will start the Surf Timer revamp hopefully.

 

I also plan on rebuilding plugins and such along with new configurations on this Surf Timer revamp that the whole CS:GO division can use in the future (e.g. we just purchased the full version of TOG Chat Tags).

We are going to be testing it for sure. We will hold an open beta test when it is playable.

It's about time CS:GO ZM got the boot.  I thought the team spoke of this during the promotion, and we saw issues with it long ago; not just in the server activity.

 

You guys confuse transparency in leadership and communication compared to a popular vote.  It's not the same, and the best leaders can make decisions against the popular vote although I am not suggesting to deliberately always run against the wind.
