Nick 1,249 / 17,857 Report Post Posted May 20, 2021 Hi, everyone. As many of you probably already know, I have been preparing to resign for quite some time. It is now time for my “GFL is doomed”-speech. I am of course kidding. Council has approved abolishing the Executive Director role, so there won’t be any successor to me. I will be the one and only, haha. I don’t think there would ever be a good time for me to leave, but right now is probably the best since Council is doing pretty well. One of the reasons for me resigning is that I want to focus my time on finishing my master’s degree; I only have a year left so things are getting more intense. Secondly, I simply do not believe I can learn much more from my current position. GFL has taught me a lot of great things when it comes to managing, conflict resolution, politics, and much more. People who knew me back in the days can hopefully agree that I have learnt a lot since then, haha. I am now putting a lot of this to use in real life, so I no longer have the motivation to do “the same thing but online” so to say. Finally, I feel like it’s time for me to retire from GFL’s politics. It has been quite a few years (albeit on-and-off) with a lot of good moments but also a lot of stressful moments. I like to believe that I have at least done some good. This is not to say that I won’t comment on things occasionally. 😛 This leads me to an important point: I am not leaving GFL! I will be taking a break though where I will focus on exams and playing some games I haven’t had the time to play, haha. Once I am back, I will switch out politics with tech. I am not entirely sure of the practicalities, but I will definitely come back as some kind of developer and focus fully on the technical side of GFL. Ideally, I want to basically work my way though all corners of GFL and see what can be done to improve the technical aspects. One of my more ambitious goals is to pursue novel projects for GFL; let’s see how that goes, haha. 😄 Some of you might be wondering why I waited so long to resign, and why I have basically been non-existent as a Director. I have some unfinished Council Business™ that I have to attend to before resigning. However, me basically being non-existent as a Director does not set a good example, so I have made a deal with the rest of the Council that I will resign from Director and temporarily stay in the Council until the Business™ has been attended to. I would like to say thanks to all the GFL “politicians” who have dealt with my shenanigans over the years. You have helped me improve as a person, leader, and much more; it hasn’t been a smooth process, that’s for sure, and I do apologize for the toes I have stepped on.
